With an amazing collection of books and stories to explore, each class has studied at least one Roald Dahl book. Some of the books in focus have been: The Twits, James and the Giant Peach, Marvellous Medicine, The Magic Finger, The BFG, Boy and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Students have enjoyed using their learning and creativity to influence their reading, writing and art. Work from this term will be used for our school display during Education week. On Monday students and staff attended a performance from “Aunty Peach”. This show centred around the magic of Roald Dahl's wacky and humorous twisted fairy tales as published in the "Revolting Rhymes". The audience enjoyed animated storytelling, magic and humour. Aunty Peach also passed on to the students stage terminology and useful tips for drama performance. Our students really enjoyed the show and teachers have enjoyed the enthusiasm this has created back in the classroom. I have enjoyed seeing many pieces of work that have been generated through the study of Roald Dahl and I would like to share a recount of the performance written by Summer Dean, Year 3. Aunty Peach On the 15th of June at Hume Public School Aunty Peach came to perform. She did acting, magic, tricks, noises and kids dressed up. Her show was about Revolting Rhymes by Roald Dahl. At the start of the show we all heard soft calm music then she come out acting crazily. She acted like lots of characters – these characters were from other stories that Roald Dahl had changed for his own stories. All through the show she did magic tricks. She had a magic wallet that had things like balls and cubes come out of it. But the best trick for me was the rubik’s cube she put it in a box and it changed colour. She made lots of silly noises that made all the kids and teaches laugh but after a while the noises got a bit annoying. The audience got to have a go at acting. Asha went up on stage and put on a wolf mask to look like a wolf. After that Zion, Xander and Locky went up and dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood and Grandma. Then Paris, Delly and Gina also went up and dressed up as wolves. They tried to be scary but there too nice. I enjoyed the Aunty Peach show and I’m sure everyone else did too. Emergency Procedures This term we have had a major upgrade to our communication and bell system at Hume. This upgrade has been very successful and has had a major impact on the level of school wide communication capabilities. Each room and office now has a phone and intercom facility installed and our bell system has been improved to allow for the bell to be heard in each room and outdoor space within the school. As part of our upgrade we have also changed the emergency signal/sounds. Emergency procedures are needed in case of evacuation or lockdown. Yesterday we conducted a lockdown drill and in the coming week (weather permitting) we will conduct an evacuation drill. Safety is of the highest priority and we are very happy with the improvements we have made to this area of school organisation. Reports and Parent/Teacher Interviews Reports will be sent home with students tomorrow, Friday 19 th June. Students who are away will have their reports mailed out. Next week all parents are invited to Parent / Teacher Interviews. Each class teacher will be available on a set day to meet with parents. If you would like to book a time please contact the office. NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA- The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with a Disability is an annual collection that counts the number of school students with a disability and the level of educational adjustment they are provided with. All schools will be involved in the collection of data for students with a disability or who require an adjustment to their learning in some way. Hume began participating in the collection in 2014 and will update the collection for 2015 over the next two weeks. The information provided by the national data collection will help all Australian governments, education authorities and schools better target programmes and resources and contribute to enhanced outcomes for students with a disability. A reasonable adjustment is an action taken to help a student with a disability participate in education on the same basis as other students. Adjustments can be made across the whole school setting (e.g. ramps into buildings), in the classroom (such as adapting class lessons) and at an individual student level (such as extra tuition for a student with learning difficulties). Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all children and their families is essential. As part of the national data collection: Personal or confidential information will not be provided to anyone not authorised to see it Personal details, student names or any identifying information will not be included in data sent to the local education authority or to the Australian Government. If you do not wish your child to be involved in this data collection please inform the school in writing.
