Shout Out

Do you know what Sunday, October 12 – Saturday, October 18th
is? It’s Jaycee week. I know that
we don’t really need to have a
specific week set aside as every
day of every week can be Jaycee
filled. It’s nice though to have that
time set aside to do special Jaycee focused events or to somehow incorporate Jaycees into our
everyday lives and share the Jaycees with others. We are really
lucky because our general meeting falls during Jaycee Week. We
will talk about some easy ways to
let others know you’re a Jaycee
and how they too can get involved. We’re also going to play
some Jaycee Trivia for prizes.
I love this time of the year with the
leaves changing color and the
nights getting cooler. I can’t believe that we’re already in October
and starting the last quarter of
2008. The Chapter has accomplished some great things this
year and we’re not done yet.
Come to the meeting on Monday
and find a way to be involved with
Fall is Upon us!
the projects we have coming up.
Also think about stepping up for a
position to be on the 2009
Schaumburg Jaycees Board it’s
great life experience and
very rewarding.
even if you can’t stay for the weekend come for the day. For more
information check out the Illinois
Jaycee Website – www.iljaycees.org
or talk to me at the meeting.
Thanks again for all you do Schaumburg Jaycees. Your hard work has
not gone unnoticed. You make your
community a better place for all those
who live in it. Keep up the great spirit
and let’s end the year strong!

With Jaycee Pride,
Our next chapter social will be
Wednesday, November 5th at 7:30pm at
the Starbucks in the
Streets of Woodfield.
Come out to socialize with other members or bring someone you think might like to join.
If you haven’t signed up for 2nd
Trimester General Assembly it’s
not too late. The great thing is the
GA is close by in the Naperville/
Lisle area. If you sign up by Sunday the 12th it’s $55 for registration which includes lunch and
dinner on Saturday and socials.
We currently have secured 1 hotel
room for both nights for the chapter for Schaumburg Jaycee
women so if you’re a guy and
want to go, let me know so we
can get book another room. We
are very lucky because on Saturday we have a trainer, Matt Booth,
coming in to do training – and as
a Jaycee the training is FREE –

Hey there Schaumburg Jaycees!
Welcome to October!! BOO!!!!
(HA! Did
I scare
you?)
Well, we’re rapidly rolling up the last
few months of 2008. Have you had
SOOO much fun that you don’t know
where the time went? I know I have!
Getting to do so many fun things,
getting to know so many new people,
making a difference in our community
and knowing that yes, one person
CAN make a difference. I’ve loved
my Jaycee experience so far this
year, and have learned from it, too.
Hope you’re feeling the same!
Speaking of ‘Boo’ – have some news
on our ‘Haunted Trails’ idea. Was a
kick off year for Streamwood to do
this, and getting details and info wasn’t terribly easy. Due to that, along
with time constraints, we decided to
put this one on the back burner until
2009. Don’t worry, however. We’re
working on putting together a little
Jaycee Haunted House time – check
your e-mail for more info as soon as
the Illinois Jaycee website has an
updated listing of Haunted Houses –
we’ll go get scared together! (Well,
not me. As many of you know, I’ll be
in the parking lot. Probably crying. I
talk tough, but I’m not going in those
places!! Seriously! What if I didn’t
come back out?? Spooky!!)
Pizza Contest update as well – have
moved the date out to 11/21. The
Posse is currently finishing up details
with the Village (a Jaycee lesson – if
you’re using ANY municipal property,
even if you have permission, you still
need a permit from the Village. Tuck
that away in your info storage bank,
could be useful information some
day! Or ask me. I guarantee I’ll
Page 2
never forget it!) More details as we
move forward!
Holiday Project time! Are you ready
to make a difference in someone's
life this holiday season? How about
your own? I keep saying it (because
it’s the truth, I’ve experienced it first
hand!) you will always get more out
of helping your community than you
put in. It seems to me to be a funny
law of volunteering, that doesn’t adhere to any scientific base. How can
you put something IN, and get MORE
back than you put in? I don’t know,
but it works and I love it. Try it out.
Take the opportunity to learn and
grow. Your world will be a better
place, and you will be a happier person in it, I guarantee it! (I keep thinking about the fact that kids who had a
pretty bleak Christmas morning
ahead of them will wake up, not just
believing, but knowing for a FACT
that Santa really does exist. Of
course he does!! Just look at the
tree!! Were WE there, tucking those
gifts away? Did WE give life to Santa
by our collective efforts and love for
these kids we don’t even know? You
betcha. Santa is as real as you and
I!) Nourishing food, warm clothing,
carols and pictures and joy and happiness. What a great time to be a
Jaycee – you can share all of these
things with your community!! You
know it’s time. And you know your
own holidays will be better because
of it. Let’s make a difference together!
I said it earlier – I really hope you’re
enjoying your Jaycee experience this
year. You know what else I hope? I
hope you’re talking to people about
it!! Tell your friends what a great time
you have. Tell your coworkers about
the fun stuff you get to participate in.
Tell your family how proud you are of
your Jaycee chapter. You know what
will happen? People will want to
know more. They will want to be a
Jaycee with you! They will have the
opportunity to learn and grow as
leaders! We will all have the chance
to get to know them! You’ll get to
spend more time with your pals! We
will have a bigger impact in our community, because there will be more of
us to make that impact! WOW! Just
from talking about the organization
you’re already a part of & love?
Pretty cool! Tell your friends, family,
and co-workers that we would LOVE
to see them at a meeting or project!!
Honest and for real, the more the
merrier!!
2009 board nominations at our meeting on October 13th, elections at our
November meeting. Lots of info has
been sent, also published in this
newsletter (long one, huh?) Is it time
to step up to a board position? Exciting!! Come to the October and November meetings and make sure
your voice is heard regarding the
leadership of YOUR chapter through
2009!
Sorry, just realized I got a little longwinded. (There’s something new,
right?) I just get so EXCITED this
time of year! (And every other time
of year, too. It’s good to be a Jaycee!!)
See you all at the meeting on the
13th! Until then, make each day a
WONDERFUL one!
Yours in Jaycees –

Hello to my fellow Jaycees!
It is October. Even though it doesn’t
feel like October… I just love those
70° days at the end of the season!
But on a serious note, we are about
to get busy. And I mean work busy!
A couple of our fall projects have
been put on the back burner. But I
want you all to start thinking Thanksgiving, which is only 6 weeks away.
Please keep it in mind that we will be
shopping and delivering our thanksgiving food baskets the week prior to
Thanksgiving. It is a fantastic project
is the first of all the projects that will
get you in the spirit of giving. More
details to come for the week of November 16th.
The week of Thanksgiving is a busy
one for us. Not only would we have
delivered food baskets, we do start
off our holiday events. We need people to be available for the weekend of
Thanksgiving. Friday night is our
annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at the Schaumburg Prairie
Center. It is a couple of hours supplying refreshments to the public and
supplying Santa and Jingle Elf for
pictures. The evening is usually from
about 5PM to 9PM.
Then the Saturday and Sunday afterwards starts off our Wish Tree and
Christkindelsmarkt. We need people
available for both. Christkindelsmarkt
is from 11AM-6PM both Saturday
and Sunday held at the Town Square
mall off Schaumburg Road and Roselle road. We have not decided
what hours to be there yet. Please
sign up for our events at our October
meeting.
Also at the October meeting we will
be discussing wish tree and Christmas food baskets. Wish tree… this
is our biggest project of the year next
to the beer booth. We receive 80–
100 children's names from the village
to purchase Christmas gifts for. We
open up the opportunity to the public
to take some of the names to purchase items for the kids through usually a store front. We in turn make
sure that all children have had 3
items purchased for them, all packages are wrapped, and we finally deliver them the Friday before Christmas. This project is every weekend
in December, and typically there has
been one person in charge. We are
going to change that this year by having a committee. I would like to see 3
people run this project and break
down the responsibilities so the project is much more manageable. But I
need volunteers. Job descriptions
were handed out at the September
general meeting as to what is
needed. Please let me know if your
interested, I would love to see this
project be successful and enjoyable
to all that are involved. It is a great
opportunity to really bring the Christmas spirit to the community. There
will be sign up sheets for this project
as well. I cannot stress how much
we need our WHOLE Jaycee chapter
to contribute to these projects. We
really want everyone to experience
what these project bring to our group
and to you as a person, but we also
do not want everyone to be overwhelmed and tied to the project.
I can’t say
enough
about how
well our
chapter is
coming together and
how our
volunteers
have
stepped up
and helped with each and every project. It makes me proud to be in an
organization with such quality people.
I can only look forward to what this
holiday season will bring. I know
each of you is probably feeling some
stress with the economic problems
that have hit our WORLD, not just us.
But as people and human beings I
know if we all support each other and
stick together, sometimes the bad
stuff really doesn’t seem so bad.
With our busiest time in our chapter
upon us, we need to support each
other, and enjoy our time together.
That is what life is all about.
Okay, my philosophical moment has
now passed and we are on to business. I hope to see you all there on
Monday. And have a fabulous weekend!
See you soon,
Sandi
Community VP

Breaking news!
Hey! Check it out! I found this
GREAT picture of Brett being
sworn in! (I’m sneaky with that
camera!) I know we’ve said it before, but WELCOME Brett! Great
pic! Now you’re in the newsletter
and FAMOUS!!!
It’s great to be a Jaycee with you!!
MORE Breaking News!
I’m very excited to tell let you know that Eva Miranda
has joined the Schaumburg Jaycees! Eva can’t be at our
October meeting (‘cause she’s a super busy HR executive type, jetting all over the world! Yeah, she wishes!)
because she has to be at a conference out of town,
she’s already looking forward to getting involved, and
has already helped us out at events in the past. Welcome, Eva! VERY excited that you’ve joined us!!
Rain Rain, go away . . . come again WHEN WE DON’T HAVE FUN THINGS TO DO!
Oh well, what can you do. Rained at Fishing Has No Boundaries, but we did manage to get some
very soggy fishing in. (Thank heaven for rain boots & rain ponchos!) Participants who braved
the weather still had fun fishing (isn’t rain supposed to make the fish bite? Didn’t seem to see a
whole lot of that . . .) Those of us on shore got to have fun towing cars out of the mud. (Well,
some of the guys had fun. I just stood back & took pictures!!) Thank you to our Associate member Betsy Grindol, who works so hard every year to make this event a success. Also, great big
thanks to Connie Moy for braving the weather to be there! I know it was wet, but you have to
admit that the puddles were fun to play in. I still can’t figure out how your shoes stayed so clean.
Also thanks to our Associate members Pat (“It’s just a little rain!”) Hart, Bruce (“Hey, it’s dry under the tent!”) Widenhoefer, Rob (“Yay, we get to play in the mud!”) Catania. Already looking forward to next year!
Rained at the GiGiFest 2008. Lots of crowding under a tent & into the Playhouse, and everyone
had a great time regardless! Thanks to the Sepfest tip jar donation, we were able to sponsor the
pumpkin decorating portion of the fun, with 100 pumpkins!! (only ONE was left at the end of the
day!) We also had lots of fun providing some temporary tattoos for the kids. The balance of the
tip jar donation was used to purchase 10 cases of water (the cute & perfect for the Playhouse half
bottles, 70 in a case!! They were VERY happy & can use the extras for other events!) Rumor has
it there was a fairy sighting as well . . . GREAT BIG thank you to Jen Sheridan and Michelle
Doonan (and the Scouts and your daughter, too!) for making this event a success!! Thanks also to
Jen Marcello and her friend Patrick for coming out to see us & lend a hand (a cold, wet hand . . .)
Sepfest Beer Booth Wrap Up
Yes kids, this is it! Here’s the recap info for our biggest fundraising event of the year!
Associate booth – 31 kegs, 18 cases malt beverage
Regular Member booth – 16 kegs, 11 cases malt beverage
(Yes, the Associates beat the Regular Members again. Just remember, it’s because they’re by the FOOD, not ‘cause they’re so much BETTER
LOOKING, as so many of them claim!!)
HOWEVER –
Tip Jars –
Associates – 562.58
Regular Member – 608.45
(So the Regular Members one ONE round this year!!)
After all bills were paid (to Budweiser, the Village, and the repayment of the start up bank to the chapter), we are left with a net income of
(Drumroll, come on, you know you’re doing it!)
$11524.47
Great Job, Schaumburg Jaycees!!
Thank you again to all who made this event a success! You have ensured our ability to make a difference in our community during our 2008
Holiday projects, and also provided a secure footing for the 2009 year to step off from. YOU make a difference!!
Tip Jar Wrap up –
Tip jar donations this year totaled up to $1172.00 – and as we do every year, the Beer Booth chairpeople (for 2008, Scott Felgenhauer and Tami
Curran) determine the distribution for these funds. This year, things broke down as follows –
$125.00 to District 54 Special Olympics
$125.00 to Special Olympics Young Athletes Program
$270.00 to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry
$250.00 to GiGis Playhouse (more on that elsewhere in the newsletter!)
$250.00 to the Yellow Ribbon Support Group (troop support care packages)
$150.00 to Strays (we purchased raffle tickets to support their upcoming event. Who knows, maybe we’ll win!)
Checks are written and funds are distributed! Hurrah!
Thank you again to everyone who helped make the Beer Booths a success!

Make a difference in your community and in your life. Whether you're seeking a way to meet people, to improve your community or to
build your own personal and professional repertoire, Jaycees has a lot to offer you. Local chapters meet monthly, so you can stay
connected without taking too much time out of your busy life.
Who are the Jaycee’s?
We are a young person's (18 to 40) leadership training organization. Our programs stress the development of the individual member's
leadership and managerial skills through the running of projects that benefit our community and the Jaycees movement as a whole.
We build leaders!
As a member our chapter, you will also be a member of the State Jaycee organization. The state officers and program chair people
are among our greatest resources for course instructors and general information and materials.

THE INDIVIDUAL WHO ONLY DOES ENOUGH WORK TO GET BY SELDOM
GETS MUCH MORE THAN "BY."
There is a cause-and-effect relationship between your actions and the rewards
that accrue to you. When you put more of yourself into your career, your personal
relationships, your religious faith, and any other aspect of your life, you get more
out of it. If your ambitions are greater than simply "getting by" in life, you will
never be truly happy with your company, your job, or yourself unless you do your
best every day. Your harshest critic and your toughest competitor should be you.
This positive message is brought to you by the Napoleon Hill Foundation. Visit us at http://www.naphill.org.
We encourage you to forward this to friends and family. They can sign up for this free service at our web site.
