The year has started very well with a strong focus in class of establishing expectations of work standard and school behaviours. We have begun a very interesting COG’s unit ‘Our Local Environment” where children have been exploring and researching interesting things about both the built and the local environment. I hope you enjoy reading the student’s writing about why they love living here in Brunswick Heads and the aerial perspective drawings that we did in oil pastel of our main waterways. If you look closely you will find the North and South Wall, Torakina, the road and foot bridges and the shops/houses around our beautiful township. (They look so much better on the website where you can see them in colour). The class did a wonderful job of these pictures and we are very proud to be member of both the school and local community. Miss Clowes 3/4C Our Local Environment. For years our local environment has been used for many things. Brunswick Heads Public school T.L.C. was the first ever building made of brick, it was also a prison where the policeman kept their prisoners until they could go to Lismore or Mullumbimby. Right now the beaches and trees are beautiful, every now and then you might see a dolphin or a whale in the ocean. The park is one of the many places to see people. If you’re a person who likes birds you will love Brunswick because there are so many beautiful birds. I hope you like my information. Alisha B In Brunswick Heads we like to support each other, we are a very close community. Lots of people just talk to all different people and then we make lots of friends. Brunswick is a very lovely community to live in ir to live close to. The best thing is to visit our beautiful town. In our community we love to play around and we like to play and meet new people. In our town we have lots of trees and lots of beautiful beaches . Our school is just 2 minutes away from the beach. I think our local community is the best in Australia , maybe even the world. And if you disagree yours probably is the same amount of being the best and you must love it a lot. Shelayne T To see the students work in glorious colour, plus more photos visit our website. Principal’s Comment Dear Parents/Guardians, Out With The Old … Last night we bid adieu to our outgoing P & C. I’d just like to say what a fabulous job they have done over the past 12 months. Much more than a bunch of fund raisers your P & C have provided invaluable insights into the feelings of your community. Insights that have helped us shape the direction you would like your school to take. Having said that - to be able raise enough money, with your help, to provide Smart Boards for all but one of our classrooms is an amazing achievement. From the great job Katrina did pulling together our most successful ‘Fairtastic’, add in Lyn and her band of canteen workers, throw in the pub raffles, the market stalls and so much more with too many helpers to name for risk of leaving someone out. We, the staff, are forever grateful. To Trish and her hardy committee we offer our heartiest congratulations on a job well done. … and In With The New. Also last night we elected your new P & C Committee. With a mix of some wisdom born of experience and some exuberance from those stepping up for the first time there is an air of confidence and expectation as we welcome in your new committee. The Arts We have a couple of things beginning to happen in this all important form of expression and performance. Our school choir practise is in full swing with Mrs Cook every Wednesday. On Thursdays we have several students from our senior classes representing us in a Brunswick Valley choir. Years 5 and 6 had an opportunity to attend the Byron Film Festival today. Sports Report This week we’ve had Erez and Natasha head down to Coffs to compete in the North Coast Swimming Championships. Several of our boys headed off to try out for the District AFL team today. Notes have gone out for nominations from our senior students to try out for District teams in Rugby League, Soccer, Hockey and Netball. We’ve begun organising school teams for upcoming softball and rugby 7’s competitions and we also have the Group 18 All-school rugby league carnival coming up in a couple of weeks. Off to Broken Hill I’ll be away next week on a push bike ride from Nuriootpa to Broken Hill – just over 550km. Hopefully I’ll survive the rigours of sitting on that small seat and pedalling for 7 days and be back on the coast in time for a North Coast Principal’s meeting in Coffs Harbour. I’ll be back on deck from Wednesday (20 th). Until then Ms Currie will be steering the ship. Have a great week. Mick 2013 Student Representative Council Congratulations to all our 2013 Student Representative Council members who were inducted at last weeks assembly.
