General Review of all national policies and regulations. 2 Security The National Maritime Administration (Dirección General de Marina Mercante) is responsible for the safety of human life at sea, vessels, traffic, and the protection of the marine environment. Security • The ISPS Code is an excellent instrument of National Security. • Mexico has signed special Agreements in this matter, with the US. Coast Guard and Canada. Actions • 2007. An Agreement between the Maritime Administration and the Navy is signed. Local Centers were set up in different ports for the Assistance in case of maritime and port events. • Huge investment is made to implement security plans in ports. • New technological equipment was installed in all ports. 800 millions • In 2007, the Government acknowledges the Maritime Administration, as a leader in National Security. Antecedent The maritime education and Training System has its Headquarters in Mexico City There are four Maritime Academies located in Mazatlan, Tampico, Veracruz and Ciudad del Carmen. Mexico is in the STCW-IMO “White List”1.
