Security
The National Maritime Administration (Dirección General de Marina Mercante) is responsible for
the safety of human life at sea, vessels, traffic, and the protection of the marine environment.
Security
• The ISPS Code is an excellent instrument
of National Security.
• Mexico has signed special Agreements in this
matter, with the US. Coast Guard and
Canada.
Actions
• 2007. An Agreement between the Maritime Administration and the Navy is
signed. Local Centers were set up in different ports for the Assistance in case
of maritime and port events.
• Huge investment is made to implement security plans in ports.
• New technological equipment was installed in all ports. 800 millions
• In 2007, the Government acknowledges the
Maritime Administration, as a leader in
National Security.

Law.
Guidelines
• Update the general guidelines for the operation of
the Local Center for the assistance of Port and
Maritime events. (with the Navy and Customs
Department)

In 2005, Hurricane Wilma hit Caribbean coastlines.

On October 21, 2005, that the M/V "Cozumel II"
stranded on the shores of Mexico.

Maritime Education
The Maritime Authority try to foment the training and the updating of the professional seamen in the
specialties that requires the maritime sector.
