The Covington Catholic Times Volume XXV-Issue IV 1600 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Kentucky 41011 (859) 491-2247 Dec/Jan 2013 Page 2 Editorials By: Corbin Maschinot As the year came to a close people began celebrating their wonderful accomplishments during 2012 while others were still grieving over their losses. It was a year full of tragedy and accomplishments, of murders and new advances. 2012 started with high hopes but quickly turned for the worst on January 13th when the gigantic cruise ship the Costa Concordia wrecked off of the coast of Italy where 32 people lost their lives. The cruise ship had only been set sail for a couple hours, and the passengers had not yet done any evacuation drills. The ship ran into a reef and tipped over and sunk. The ship held 3,200 passengers and 1,000 crew members so considering that the ship had not even done any drills to prepare, 32 people is not much compared to how big of a tragedy it could have been. Then February came around and a shooting happened that changed America forever. On February 26th George Zimmerman (neighborhood watch) reported to police that a suspicious man was walking around his neighborhood. Mr. Zimmerman then decided to confront the young man which led to an altercation that ended in the 17-year-old Trayvon Martin being shot in the chest. He died shortly afterwards. Mr. Zimmerman said that Trayvon was being suspicious because of the color of his skin (black) and that he was wearing a black hoodie. The case has sparked up much controversy that will last for years to come. Every year there seems to be at least a couple shootings that hit the hearts of everyone who hears about them. 2012 sadly had a couple of those shootings. After the murder of Trayvon Martin, would the country be able to handle more unnecessary death? By: Ethan Egbers Page 9 Sports Page 11 Reviews A Look Back On July 20th a night many people looked forward to with the new Batman movie coming out, “The Dark Knight Rises,” but the midnight premiere quickly took a turn for the worse in Aurora, Colorado, when a masked man released a noxious gas into the theater which made it harder for people to get out. He then began to open fire leaving 58 wounded and killing 12. The man was caught by police and was found to be 24-year-old James Holmes, a recent college drop-out. When his neighbors made a comment to police they said that James’ behavior was very surprising because he seemed like such an intelligent and normal guy. Every year it seems that Mother Nature will shock and awe the human race with a storm that surpasses the one the year before. When many people across the U.S. began getting ready to celebrate the happy holiday of Halloween, people on the MidAtlantic coast tried to prepare for a storm that would surpass any storm in recent years. Mother Nature decided to throw Super Storm Sandy at the U.S. when it swept through 19 different states as far inland as Kentucky. The storm’s total death toll was estimated to be at 125 dead in the U.S. Sandy left over 8 million without power, and the total cost was at 20 billion and rising. This is surely a storm that will not be forgotten. Democrat Barack Obama beat out his Republican competitor with 332 electoral votes compared to Mitt’s 206; Obama also won the popular vote with 51% of the votes. With the election closed and the President returning for a second term, Americans can start believing in their economy once again. Stocks saw a double digit gain in 2012, the stock market is once again going up in a positive climb, and because of this more people are willing to put their money back into the stock market. Some of the most interesting facts that happens over the year are the smallest ones to come out of the year. Everyone has heard that air travel is safer than traveling in a car, but still people are afraid of flying more than driving. During the twelve months of 2012 there were only 22 fatal airplane crashes, which is an alltime low for a year. With this information the air industry has high hopes that their business will be increasing and many of the struggling companies will no longer be struggling by the end of 2013. shocked many people was that the head of the universal Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI created a twitter account for himself. Before he could send his first tweet he had already had one million followers. His first tweet read, “Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.” The Catholic Church hopes that with this new plan they will be able to bring new followers and even old followers who strayed away back to the church. As there is every year, 2012 was not short of its notable deaths. Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, died on August 25th at the age of 82 because of complications after a surgery he had. Don Cornelius, the creating and legendary host of the music show Soul Train, committed suicide on February 1st at the age of 75. Rodney King, whose beating by the LAPD caused riots all over the United States and helped push forward the civil rights movement, died on June 17th at the young age of 47. Michael Clarke Duncan, an actor known for his roles in The Green Mile and the children’s movie See Spot Run, died on September 3rd just a few months short of his 55th birthday. One major political death of the year was Charles Stevens; the U.S. ambassador to Benghazi was killed during an attack on the consulate building on September 11th. The attack was in protest of an antiIslam film sweeping the globe. He was 52 years old, and many people who knew him said that they had high hopes for him changing and fixing the U.S. relationships with many foreign countries. Though it may seem that 2012 was filled with tragedy, there are good things that happened over the year too. In March the United States Census Bureau estimated the world’s population to be at 7 billion and rising. That is an all-time high for the human race, and with all these people working together who knows what advances are to come. In November as the presidential election came to a close the citizens of the U.S. found out that their President will be returning for a second term. With the passing of the great Apple founder Steve Jobs many wondered where the company would be headed with a new leader for the first time in its long history. Tim Cook took over Apple with a game plan and the want to strive to make the company stronger than ever before. Not only has Apple seen much change, Facebook for the first time since its founding went public. This means that now anyone can invest in the company, and with more people investing and more money coming into Facebook the site has seen many changes and increases in its users since its going public on Friday, May 18th. Editorials and News The Best and Worst By: Will Henry Everybody works in one way or another, and if one is unemployed, he or she has most likely had a job in the past. Of the millions of jobs out there, CareerCast.com has put together a list of the most stressful and least stressful jobs of 2013. The website created a ranking system that takes into account several work-related factors including travel, environmental conditions, growth potential, income, interaction with the public and general work hazards. The top ten most stressful jobs are: 1. Enlisted military personnel 2. Military general 3. Firefighter 4. Commercial airline pilot 5. Public relations executive 6. Senior corporate executive 7. Photojournalist 8. Newspaper reporter 9. Taxi driver 10. Police officer By: Will Henry Our great nation is stricken with grief and feels absolutely exhausted from the senseless mass shootings we have faced over the past few months and years. Most recently, and arguably the worst, shooting was at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where twenty-seven innocent teachers and children lost their lives. Countless proposals have been offered, but to no avail, as of yet. Two of the most discussed solutions are to station armed guards or teachers in every school, or to establish more gun-free zones. The top ten least stressful jobs are: 1. University professor 2. Seamstress/tailor 3. Medical records technician 4. Jeweler 5. Medical laboratory technician 6. Audiologist 7. Dietitian 8. Hairstylist 9. Librarian 10. Drill press operator Agree or disagree, after intensive research and polling, experts have decided on the preceding lists as the most and least stressful jobs, respectively, for the year 2013. With many still struggling to find work, the question is not the most or least stress, but simply what will put food on the table. Although, it is interesting to think how easy your university professor had it! Page 2 Violence in America By: Austin Beck America is, without a doubt, one of the greatest countries of all time. However, it has its fair share of violence and crime within it. These cities in 2012 topped off the list of America’s most dangerous cities. The tenth most dangerous city in America is Buffalo. The city has a violence rate of 1,238 per 100,000 residents, and over 30% of the city’s population is living below the poverty level. Coming in at number nine is Cleveland. The city has a very high crime rate, but the murder rate fell 27% last year. Number eight is the city of Stockton. This particular city is endeavored is debt and has filed for bankruptcy, and has cut back dramatically on policing. The seventh most dangerous city is Baltimore, Maryland. It ranks in the top 15 U.S. cities for all violent crimes. Number six is Atlanta. This city has extreme robbery and violence. The city’s crime rate rose 6% is 2012 mostly because of robbery and assault. The halfway point of number five includes Birmingham, Alabama. This city has an extraordinarily high drug trade and a high poverty rate, which many believe leads to the violent nature of Armed Teachers President Barack Obama, in his statement after the Sandy Hook shooting, suggested that armed military personnel be stationed at every school in the United States. However, this would obviously be a large tax burden to pay for all these personnel, so many have proposed that teachers be trained to carry concealed weapons in the school building. In Utah, this has already been in effect for many years, and has yielded success. Although no teachers have had to fire a weapon, several times the knowledge of a gun in the classroom has deterred students from attempting anything rash. A national mandate to allow concealed weapons in schools by trained personnel would signifi- this city. Number four is Memphis. Memphis is atop the list for most reporting crimes than any other city in the U.S. Oakland enters the list as the third most dangerous city. Oakland has high drug trading which leads to violence on the streets. The second most dangerous city in America is St. Louis. The city has been plagued with murders since the late 1990’s and has only gotten worse. The most dangerous city in the U.S. is Detroit, Michigan. This city has been number one for over five years now and continues to struggle. Extreme violence which includes murder, assault, and robberies enable this city to be named the most dangerous city in America. When you are planning a nice family vacation this summer, be sure to avoid these cities at all cost. These cities are notorious for violence and crime and are sure to present an unpleasant time for residents and visitors. cantly reduce the odds of an insane gunman attempting a massacre. fantasy bubble and causes them to either kill themselves or surrender. “Gun-free Zones” have been in place for over 20 years as a deterrent to criminals. However, the opposite has proved true. According to the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, in the last 20 years, all mass murders have been in places where guns have been forbidden, such as schools, malls, and movie theaters. The supposed gun-free zones have proved a breeding ground for deranged criminals to produce a fantasy world bubble of killing. Experts agree that the presence of a gun and the threat of returned violence often bursts the killer’s We live in an ever-changing world, a world that is not the same as it was years ago. Times have changed and we are no longer as safe as we once were. There have always been murders, but it almost seems like they are getting more numerous and more gruesome by the day. There is no failsafe plan to prevent murderers from carrying out their plans, but changes in legislature and elsewhere can, perhaps, decrease the number of senseless deaths and mindless killing of innocent people. Editorials and News Page 3 The Jeff Ruby Experience By: Max Williamson The path to success is something that has been contrived, contested, and conversed ever since the first day man found himself wanting more. The path to success is ever-changing; in a world with a minute by minute news cycle, the catalysts of change remain constantly at work. However, the truly paramount challenge of success in the modern world is the maintenance of relevancy with time. Ever since leaving home at age fifteen, Jeff Ruby has endured the fight for relevancy and success. Opening his first restaurant in 1981, the legacy of the Jersey born philanthropist and businessman has spanned over three decades. A lightning rod for controversy and a role model for entrepreneurship, Jeff Ruby’s success can be attributed to his fluidity in the changing market, especially through the expansion of social media, as well as an unfailing drive towards the bigger and better life, however never forgetting that, “unshared success isn’t really success.” part of many people’s lives, and Jeff Ruby was looking for a new way to connect with his guests. “Brandon Phillips was telling me how I need to get on this Twitter thing… my people initially said no, but with my daughter helping me out with it, they eventually said yes,” says Ruby. “Whether it be about City Council, Obama, or just quotes or conversations, people enjoy getting to know me beyond just my restaurants.” Mr. Ruby has experienced a variety of people on Twitter and has inspired even more, including a 19-year-old Cincinnatian who was formerly caught up in the world of drugs. With the help and guidance of Ruby, this confused young man was able to procure a job at The Precinct, a changed attitude and life, as well as a comprehensive rehab program designed to rid this man of his past It is now estimated that over 500 million people use Twitter, with over half visiting the site at least once a day. It has become a Super Bowl Breakdown By: DJ Powell The Super Bowl: a sports spectacle which is viewed by sports fans all around the world. It is played between the best team from each conference in the National Football League, the AFC and the NFC. The 2013 Super Bowl bout will feature the NFC Champions the San Francisco 49ers, coached by Jim Harbaugh, and the AFC Champions the Baltimore Ravens, coached by John Harbaugh. This is the first time in NFL history that brothers will coach against each other in the Super Bowl. The San Francisco 49ers are a team known for their physicality and their smash mouth style of play on both offense and defense. They have a rookie quarterback by the name of Kolin Kaepernick leading the explosive offense of the 49ers who are known for their good balance of run and pass. Their keys to victory will be to wear down the Baltimore Ravens’ stellar defense led by veteran linebacker, Ray Lewis, by running the ball at them and tiring them down. To do this the 49ers must sustain long drives consisting of many plays. Also, they will need troubles. The influence of Ruby has been shown in his connection to celebrities and the social elite; however, Ruby works hard to maintain personal friendships with not only his customers, but also his Twitter followers. “It’s interactive, and I love just getting to learn about the people that are responsible for my livelihood.” To culminate Ruby’s generosity and thankfulness for his followers and guests, he has decided to throw a massive party in order to say thank you for all of the people close to him. The restaurateur and circa 5,000 of his closest friends will all be immersed in a night of fun as Ruby plans to recruit a nationally recognized band, his world famous eatery, as well as an atmosphere of friendship and gratitude as the city of Cincinnati can celebrate as one. arrest. However, this arrest actually brought a bigger spotlight to Ruby and boosted his social following. Ruby welcomes followers both positive and negative remarking that, “When you’re really successful, they either love you or hate you, there is no middle.” This self-actualization, combined with ambition and drive, is something that is sought after and marveled by many people; however, to Ruby, it is innate. Ever since he left home at age 15, he has raised himself. Completing school at Cornell, a drive towards success is something that has illustrated Ruby’s goals. So, it has become conclusively true over time that the success of Jeff Ruby can be in part due to his changing business model coupled by a maleable mind towards change, as well as Furthermore, Jeff his drive towards success which Ruby has a drive and has propelled him to the position competitive spirit that where he resides today. Now that virtually all of the trade-schools offer nursing, many Americans took advantage of the situation and became registered nurses. This profession is without a doubt the fastest growing career in America. These jobs were the best ones to have for the year 2012 and are sure to be successful during 2013. Chamber Choir Wins Big By: Corbin Maschinot Recently our Covington Catholic Chamber Choir led by Mr. Wolfe entered into a radio contest consisting of high school choirs. To get into the contest each choir had to sing a Christmas song and submit it to Q102, the songs were then put onto Q102’s website. People were then encouraged to go online and vote for their favorite choir. Covington Catholic has always been known to have great support for all its students, and this is a great example of the support CCH gives to its students. For weeks everyone was encouraged to go online and vote. The CCH community put word out in all its newspapers, websites, and sport- Colonels pose with their signs saying they are pro-life. ing events. The contest is one of the biggest Chamber Choir competitions in all of Northern Kentucky. Our chamber choir submitted their version of the song Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley. The chamber choir practiced this song for weeks before finally recording a record that they were proud to submit and put the CCH name on it. The song was obviously a huge hit, since the chamber choir won the contest. Along with winning the contest the choir was rewarded with a new piano for the school, $5,000 in cash, and their song was played on Q102 throughout the Christmas season. We are very proud of Mr. Wolfe and his chamber choir. NEHS Going Strong By: Andrew Schwartz The National English Honor Society started the year off well, and it continues to get stronger. Many members have been willing to volunteer their time to help around the community, and it has paid dividends. Over the last few months, the NEHS has found many events to get the members busy. In late November, several students headed over to Barnes and Noble on Newport on the Levee to wrap gifts for anyone who wanted their gifts, from books to posters to Nooks, to be wrapped. Members Andrew Schwartz, Scott Drees, and Jimmy Stratman brought in the most money through generous donations, most likely due to their superb wrapping skills. Several students also sold chances for a week of free CCH lunches ($25 into your lunch account) during the last week of November. The event was so successful that the NEHS was able to give away three lunch prizes. Similar to previous years, around 5-6 students head to Madonna Manor each month to entertain the elderly residents. Generally, Right: Members entertain the residents at Madonna Manor. Left: The Chamber Choir and Director Mr. Wolfe accept their prize from Q102. members will read short stories to the residents, but this year, many new activities have been introduced. One such activity, Christmas caroling, took place the week before exams with around 6 students, including President Tanner Fangman, participating. On Thursday, January 17, 20 members from Covington Catholic and 10 from Notre Dame went to see the movie, Lincoln. It was a very good turnout, and everyone was thrilled with the movie. During the first week of February, Cov Cath and NDA NEHS members will participate in a book drive to donate to Health Pointe, who will receive the childrens’ books, and the Brighton Center, who will receive all other books. The NEHS will continue to work hard throughout the rest of the school year and plans on getting even stronger as the year progresses. The members have always loved serving the community, and this will no doubt persist for a long time to come. Two things in particular that he noticed, though, was how much more polite the people were compared to Americans and how much more familyoriented the people were. Whenever he went out, he saw so many people walking around with their family members and partaking in multiple family activities, such as taking hikes and exploring the Buddhist temples as a group. Not everyone behaved in this manner, but Jacob said that they seemed much friendlier as a whole. Although he did enjoy this aspect of the country, there was one part he did not enjoy: the Japanese food. It consists mainly of fish, which many people do not like, including many of Jacob’s family members. He admitted to eating mostly KFC and McDonald’s because of his dislike of fish. Jacob thoroughly enjoyed his trip to Japan, his first time ever going, and he has said that he would go back in a heartbeat. Skiing Colonels By: Zach Toebben There are many clubs at Covington Catholic, enough to satisfy anyone’s taste. All Clubs are fun nevertheless some are beneficial for those that have less. One club in particular that meets this quota is the Ski Club; members who love skiing comprise this group. The group travels to Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, several times throughout the winter season to enjoy the slopes. Not only do these members ski for fun; they ski for service. Every year Perfect North hosts a Special Olympic Ski Day for those peoples who have special needs. Various schools around the area send students to help these special needs children. CCH has sent their Ski Club every year. The members of the group each pair up with a special needs partner and teach him/her how to ski as well as getting to know them. After several hours of teaching finally the kids get to show off what they have learned. Midday all those who wish line up for the time trial race. There is a straight line race as well as a turning course for the special needs participants to finish as quickly as possible. After everyone has gone through their desired course all participants are awarded with a medal for their efforts. After all the hard work, everyone is invited inside for a lunch. After racing and lunch teaching students and their buddies continue to ski and get to know each other until the day has ended. The Ski Club is a perfect opportunity for those who enjoy the excitement of skiing as well as providing service for those who are less fortunate. Mrs. Stengel is the club moderator and participates in each ski trip as well as Special Olympics Day. The club is going strong and has over 20 members. A fun and enjoyable experience captivated audiences as the Colonel All-Star squad, decided by a grueling series of tryouts, took on the varsity Panda volleyballers. While the Colonels may have fallen to the Pandas the first game, the preceding two games, the Colonels found themselves victorious. The second game, the faculties of each school faced off in an epic showdown. Behind by five points, the CCH faculty rallied to overcome the veteran NDA faculty team. In the final game, the CCH All-Star B Team took on the NDA random student team. The Colonels easily overtook the Pandas in the third game, thus making Cov Cath the winning team on the day winning two of three points. While the evening was filled with fun and cheer, the game was not about the students and faculty of the two schools, but about a greater cause. The Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky, which houses hundreds of homeless during the cold winter months, profited greatly with over $1,000 raised from the volleyball game. It was a great day, indeed, for the students and teachers, but more importantly, the less fortunate. They are showing great talent and with another year in the off-season they will only get better as they make their transition to varsity basketball in the 20132014 basketball season. The Covington Catholic JV basketball team started out winning their first three games against George Rogers Clark, St. Henry, and Pendleton County respec- tively. They then fell short their next two out of three games against Moeller and Louisville St. Xavier which are two teams that prove to be powerhouses in their conferences. The JV basketball team earned a win over Campbell County in between the two losses to keep the hope high to finish the season strong. The Colonels would then go to win seven of their next eight games with their only loss at the hands of a tough Newport Central Catholic team. In that eight game stretch they recorded wins over big teams such as Winton Woods, Cincinnati St. Xavier (twice), Chaminade Julienne, Holmes, and their rivals the Highlands Bluebirds. The Covington Catholic JV basketball team is set to play the remaining nine games of their schedule and hopefully do the Covington Catholic proud by coming out victorious in all nine. JV games start at 6:00PM on nights that the varsity basketball team plays. Come out and support our JV basketball Colonels on their quest win out the rest of their tough schedule. The Start of Something Good By: Andy Gregg The Freshman Basketball Team has started the season strong with an 11-6 record. They have played a tough schedule and have beaten local Covington Catholic rivals such as St. Henry 45-25, Ryle 44-29, and Newport Central Catholic 44-42. They have also beaten Dayton’s Chaminade Julienne 47-28. The freshman Coach, Mr. Matt Stevens is a 1994 Covington Catholic graduate and has many years of coaching experience, including a 2006 KBA Kentucky Middle School State Championship. This year’s Freshman squad has some considerable size on the roster, along with speed. Will Heppler who is 6’4” and 185 pounds plays center and Sean Brownfield who is 6’3” and 176 pounds also plays center, they make up most of the size. IBL stands for Intermural Basketball League. The league has been around for as long as anyone can remember. IBL is made up of several teams from each grade and one faculty team to play against senior teams. The Sophomore League has been very competitive this year. There is only one undefeated team left team Hussey. The sophomore league has 8 teams in it. The teams are: Fathman, McDowell, Wagner, Hussey, Kathman, Zumdick, Clark, and Crowe. The teams are named after the captains who drafted their teams. The second best team in the sophomore league is team Clark who has only one loss which was a close game against Fathman. The league has a lot of talent so much that a few players could possibly make the varsity team next year. It should be an interesting finish to the year in Sophomore IBL. By: Daniel Sandfoss Seniors Warm up the lights and lace up the old gym shoes. It’s IBL time in Colonel Country. The season has been underway for over two weeks now, and we can already see teams begin to pull away with it. Top dogs coming into this season are led by the returning victor from last year, Matt Summe. He looks to pull out another championship this year with one of the greatest high-scoring offensive attacks in the game today. No champion can be crowned without a struggle, and it appears the biggest threat will come from Dan Shumate’s squad. Shumate’s squad makes up the strongest front court in the league and is accented with great scorers. The second week of the season has left two teams at the top, Shumate and Summe, and a plethora of teams fighting in the middle ranks for a high seeded 3rd ranking. Great basketball is expected to come of the league this year, and it should be exciting to see how it all turns out. 1. (2-0) Team Shumate: A team with great size in the front and back courts and solid players. Trouble could exist later in this team’s future when depth of players becomes a major cog in the wheel later on in the season. 2. (2-0) Team Summe: This team has the benefit of having some of the best guards in the league. The offensive attack is stupendous but troubles could arise with a lack of size and a lack of defensive motivation for such an offensive based team. 3. (1-1) Team Stansberry: The Stanz squad has a great list of fundamentally sound players that know the game of basketball. The only trouble I see with this squad is if they have enough team chemistry to compete the length of the season. 4 (1-1) Team Boerger: Team Boerger struggles to find an identity as a difference maker. This group may have talent but need a stand out player to step up and lead this team in the right direction. 5. (1-1) Team Humphrey: The biggest fault for Team Hump is the recent loss of their star, Nate Erpenbeck. This squad still has loads of talent but it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from such a loss. 6. (1-1) Team Molony: Team Molony has somehow managed to squeak in a victory and now poses as somewhat of a threat to the rest of the bunch. Chances are that this surge comes from first round draft pick, Jon B. It will be interesting to see how the season plays out for Team Molo. 7. (0-2) Team Wendt: The issue for this squad is finding more outlets to relieve the pressure of scoring off their three main scorers: Hellman, Zalla, and Drees. Teams find simple ways to defend against these three, so the rest of the team needs to find more productive ways to help out, such as scoring. 8. (0-2) Team Sketch: Consistency is the issue for our last ranked unit, Team Sketch. The squad needs to find more ways to “share the loving” if you will. The ball movement needs to increase if team sketch wants to make a run in the playoffs. Clubs Page 12 The Dark Side of Haders By: Brandon Ward The Art Club is a club that Cov Cath offers that is run by Mr. Haters. The club gives students the chance to explore the art world with a different point of view. It is a great time for the students to get together and share in a common interest that they share. In the last couple months the art club has got together to play some Wii Bowling and go to watch/listen to the Dark Side of Oz. Not only are the students playing Wii, but they are competing in a tournament. The winners of the tournament were senior Jake List and junior Adam HolesteinSeibert. The two were named tournament champions after defeating five opponents including the dynamic duo of Clint Noble and Sam Williamson, who they had to face twice. Congratulations to both Jake and Adam. After that the students got to participate in the showing of the Dark Side of Oz. This was a time when the students get to get together and hang out and watch/listen to the movie. NBA 2k13 By: Cameron Stansberry Dynamic, legendary, and executively produced by Jay Z: these are just a few words to describe a generation changing video game, NBA 2k13. From personal experience, this is the most realistic and entertaining game I have ever played, as it blows away all other sports game’s in this day in age. From live broadcasting with CBS sports analyst Clark Kellogg and NBA TV’s Steve Kerr, to live music executively produced by Jay Z, this game is one for the ages. As most people know the NBA 2k series has been a popular one over the last several years, but the creation of this game is a new innovation in and amongst itself. From the all New Dynasty Career Mode, to the latest add on of USA basketball’s Road to the Gold, this is simply a must buy for all basketball fans. Another new creation that is only available with online access is the My Team mode. This game mode puts you up against other players online, and by winning games you will collect players, uniforms, arenas and boosts along the way. As previously mentioned, multi-platinum artist Jay Z presides over the game’s soundtrack, ingame presentation elements, and the overall style of the game. The game play is improved finally as now one can use the control stick to perform spin moves, crossovers, and other fancy moves, making it much easier to drive to the basket.
