AgustaWestland is pleased to announce the qualification of a new AW189 Flight Training Device (FTD) at the A. Marchetti
Training Academy in Sesto Calende, Italy. The device has been qualified by an EASA/ENAC joint team to FTD Level 2 as per
CS-FSTD(H) and is installed in the new simulation building. This building will further expand the Training Academy capabilities
including up to nine Full Flight Simulators (FFS) and five Flight Training Devices (FTD) as well as Virtual Interactive Procedure
Trainers (VIPT) ().
The FTD has been produced by AgustaWestland and is operated by Rotorsim, a joint venture between CAE and AgustaWestland. The FTD is being introduced to support training to its rapidly expanding number of AW189 operators.
The AW189 FTD features the AgustaWestland developed flight dynamic model, avionics and aircraft software modeling, combined with CAE core simulation technologies. The FTD features a high performance visual system with a 12 foot dome display
system delivering a 150 degree by 60 degree field-of-view. The FTD will soon provide effective training for pilots in the use of
automated flight data, systems integration and other procedures including situational awareness and decision making under
normal, abnormal and emergency conditions. This device will therefore allow for credits for IFR Training and for the majority
of malfunctions and emergency scenarios.
This achievement marks a significant milestone in the deployment of a wide range of training solutions for the AW 189.
The Training Solution is complemented by a full scale Maintenance Training Simulator (MTS) and VIPT which are already
available as part of the AW 189 Training curriculum in Italy.
The FTD will be followed by a Level D FFS at the beginning of 2014 in Italy in an offshore configuration and an additional Level
D FFS configured for Search and Rescue (SAR) in Aberdeen in 2015.
The Training Solution is completed by a full scale Maintenance Training Simulator and Virtual Interactive Procedure Trainer.

AW Philadelphia Corporation Training Academy enhancements
The lessons learned from the development of the AgustaWestland Training Academy “A. Marchetti” are being applied to
enhance the training facilities and courseware at AW Philadelphia.
AW Philadelphia Training Academy has started upgrading the training classrooms to embody state of the art technology as
well as renewing the reception area to welcome our customers & students.
Recent certification of the AW119Kx has created a demand for the AW Philadelphia Training Academy to support aircraft
production deliveries and meet this increased customer interest. In addition, AW Philadelphia Training Academy is working
with partners to develop new state of the art courseware to ensure AW’s ability to “feed” students utilising modern, effective
training aids .
A new Virtual Interactive Procedural Trainer (VIPT) has been installed in order to support the increasing demand for
the AW109SP and an AW119 maintenance simulator has been introduced to further broaden the students’ classroom
experience by adding hands-on training. The introduction of the AW169 by AW Philadelphia Corporation starting in 2014 will
require introduction of a full spectrum of training media; new courses, new instructors and new material.
The training manuals and procedures are continuously updated to meet Authority requirements.
To support all these enhancements and growth, the quantity of instructors has increased significantly. New Avionic
instructors will transition from the production/flight line to the Training Academy as the best training is to share with
students the skills and knowledge of personnel who actually built the helicopter.

Customer Focus
LIFEFLIGHT
LifeFlight of Maine was established in 1998 and specializes in emergency medical helicopter transport services
for critically injured and ill patients, while providing the highest quality care in tune with rigorous safety standards.
LifeFlight is an independent nonprofit service operated by Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems and Central Maine
Healthcare Corporation.
After selection of two AW109 Power helicopters, LifeFlight of Maine worked with AgustaWestland Philadelphia
(AWPC) to develop and design the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) interior configuration. The AW109 Power
cabin layout with the EMS interior provides for full body access to the patient, with the additional capacity to carry
up to three medical attendants and specialized medical equipment including transport isolettes and intra-aortic
balloon pumps. This AW109 Power EMS configuration is the successful result of a collaborative effort that delivers
performance fully aligned to LifeFlight’s operational needs.
In addition to the EMS interior design, LifeFlight and AWPC
worked together to incorporate state of the art systems to
provide the highest levels of operational safety. These include
a GPS approach system, fully integrated IFR operations and
night vision goggles.
The highly capable AW109 Power provides for both rapid
emergency responses in tight landing zones as well as long
distance hospital transfers.
These examples demonstrate the results achievable through
close co-operation between AgustaWestland and our
customers and highlight the commitment of AgustaWestland
to provide our customers with complete helicopter solutions to
meet their operational requirements.
KAIZEN 2 - Repair and Overhaul process improvement
In 2012 AgustaWestland Customer Support and Service Italy embarked on a new and challenging experience related to the
development of several Kaizen projects. Kaizen is a Japanese word meaning improvement, and it represents a technique
allowing a clear view of possible process innovations, through the direct involvement of a range of employees from staff
employees to top management.
One of the Kaizen projects we implemented is the Repair and Overhaul (R&O) Customer Property Repair Process, developed
thanks to the close collaboration with customers. The first step of this programme has been the review of the inbound
phase (management of unserviceable items between Goods Receipt from Customers and Goods Issue to Suppliers) and
outbound phase (management of repaired, serviceable items between Goods Receipt from Suppliers and Goods Issuance to
Customers), improving the efficiency of items and documents flow.
The starting point was to identify the major blocking points and time wastes, to understand how and which of these could be
eliminated. Analysing the whole cycle step by step, all improvements were identified and introduced in the daily activities,
therefore developing an optimized process tested by the operational team together with selected Customers. After an initial
observation phase, a significant, measureable improvement in the new process-time has been achieved , when compared
to the standard process-time.
AgustaWestland was able to achieve a challenging reduction of non-value added activities and turn-around time. The
benefits for the customers involved in this project are clear: the inbound flow average delay has halved compared to the
estimated baseline measured at the beginning of the project; the same is happening with the outbound flow.
Mr. Graeme Mcintosh, Executive Director at Sky Shuttle Helicopters
says: “Improved turn round times achieved by AgustaWestland
have assisted in our operational readiness and reduction in costs
by avoiding the duplication of expensive spare parts holding.”
Moreover, Jörgen Johansson, Programme Manager A109LUHS/
HKP15, at Saab’s Support and Services Business Area says:
“Saab is very positive about AgustaWestland’s Kaizen efforts and
goals regarding continuous improvement. As a subcontractor,
it is extremely important to increase delivery precision, lower
administrative costs and reduce turnaround times. A successful
outcome will also reduce our capital costs for stock and the work
in general will result in greater operational availability for the
helicopter system. Saab is pleased to assist in this development
by evaluating Kaizen procedures and envisions the development of
common goals for logistics services.”

EXTENDED Time Between Overhaul FOR THE AW139
As a result of the Overhaul Extension Program for AW139 transmissions, the Time Between Overhaul (TBO) for the AW139
Main Gearbox has extended from 5000 flight hours to 6000 flight hours, while for the Tail and Intermediate Gearboxes it has
extended from 5000 flight hours to 7500 flight hours. This great result in TBO improvement proves AgustaWestland’s continuous effort to reduce AW139 Direct Operating Costs (DOC) and it also represents a significant benefit to Operators, making the
aircraft even more competitive on the market.
This result has been achieved also thanks to proven capabilities and
safety features demonstrated in over nine years of operations, with now
approximately 600 helicopters in service facing demanding scenarios and
environmental conditions for a wide range of missions with over 800,000
flight hours logged.
The MGB overhaul extension can be reached by embodying the modifications published with BT 139-344. Such modifications can be applied on in
service MGB’s at the first shop visit by AgustaWestland approved Repair
and Overhaul Centers, while new Main Gearbox production units embody
such modifications.
IGB and TGB overhaul intervals extension has been approved without
need for any internal additional modification.

NEW DYNAMIC COMPONENTS FACILITY OPENED IN BELGIUM
Agusta Aerospace Services S.A. (AAS) has been a subsidiary of AW for nearly 30 years, now operating from two sites in
Belgium, one in Zaventem while its headquarters are near Liège Airport. AAS serves customers predominantly in Northern &
Eastern Europe but also some AW fleets in the Middle East and Africa. It is fully embedded within the extensive AW Customer
Support & Training network. AAS delivers material services (e.g. spare parts and AOG deliveries), helicopter maintenance
and dynamic component repair & overhaul (R&O) services.
AAS has had an established EASA Part 145 dynamic component R&O facility in Zaventem, Brussels, for almost 20 years.
EASA Part 145 Approval from the Belgian CAA enables AAS to undertake work across the A / AW109 family, B204/205/206 and
AB212/412 helicopter range. The facility achieved further FAA approvals in 2007.
As the introduction of new AW helicopter models continues, from the AW139 to the AW169 and AW189 helicopters, R&O
capacity must expand accordingly. This led to the decision to increase AAS’s R&O capacity further and to become the ‘Centre
of Excellence’ for the AW109 family transmissions. The new AAS Dynamic Component R&O facility was officially opened on
19th September 2013, still located in Zaventem, close to Brussels airport. UK and Italian ambassadors, AW’s CEO, CS&T senior
management team, the local Mayor, key
customers and service providers, joined
AAS to mark the occasion. The 2,000m²
facility includes NDI test capability,
transmission test benches, a paint
facility, inspection room and offices.
Further provisions have already been
laid for an additional multi-purpose test
bench, due for installation in 2015.
At the official opening, Rupert Dix,
Managing Director of AAS, stated
that “this new facility provides the
opportunity for AAS to deliver enhanced
service levels to our customers whilst
enabling us to serve new customers
through undertaking further AW109
transmissions work. This, in turn, will
enable AgustaWestland to efficiently
manage our global R&O facilities across
our complete helicopter range.”
