March 2016 Your board of diractors PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE chairman Sylvain Fournier Moen 1st vice-president Sylvain Fournier, chairman of the board André Descôteaux Deschênes et fils Ltéé 2nd v-president Denis Montour Uponor Directors Daniel Bégin Agences Lambert/Bégin Martin Gagnon Emco Éric Jacques Gromec Meeting Between CIPH-Québec and the Government Provoke change to move forward. It is with that thought in mind that the CIPH-Québec team got involved in the issue of water damages in condo buildings. Our goal is to find solutions and ensure the highest quality standards in our buildings. We have coordinated our actions in order to be heard at the highest level. On March 10th, Frédérick Lajoie Entreprises R.Lajoie Pierre Houle, Luc Meunier, Denis Montour, Claude Robitaille and I met with the chief of Luc Meunier Bibby Ste-Croix staff and political attaché of the minister responsible for labour. It is in a spirit of Carole Moreau Empire co-operation that these government representatives listened to what we had to say. The Alain Paquette Wolseley discussion quickly turned to finding solutions and the government suggested that we Sylvain Perreault Anvil INTL transmit our recommendations in writing. We are putting the final touches to our document Jean Phaneuf IPEX which will be sent later this month. The evolution of this issue shows the leadership Regional coordinator CIPH-Québec played among industry stakeholders. We salute the co-operation of the RBQ, Claude Robitaille the CMMTQ and the BAC. I wish to thank board members for their involvement in orchestrating this work. Hats off! We are pleased with the participation of Mr. Labrie as a speaker tonight. Thank you for having accepted our invitation STÉPHANE LABRIE CONFERENCE Seventy members were on hand on March 10th at the Cercle de la Garnison in Quebec City to hear Régie du bâtiment (RBQ) CEO Stéphane Labrie. Our speaker explained upcoming modifications to the Building Code. Prior to making these changes, the RBQ is circulating a consultation document entitled « Document de consultation en vue d’améliorer la qualité de la construction et la sécurité du public dans les bâtiments ». Our association has been asked for its recommendations, which we will be supplying in the coming weeks. We will let you know when they are available on our website. Still on the conference, Stéphane Labrie indicated that the new code is meant to further empower all stakeholders in the construction industry. When it comes to inspections, municipalities should respect both the building and safety codes. Cities across Québec will have to officially sign off on the conformity of construction work. Eighty municipalities have already agreed to the process, with 1,000 more to be added in the coming months. Our association is very sensitive to the lack of inspections in Québec and we hope that the proposed changes will help avoid damages caused by water in condo building. Stéphane Labrie, speaker 2 CODES AND STANDARDS Jean Phaneuf Chairman of the committee [email protected] Taking the opportunity of our conference in Quebec City, council members met with Labour Minister chief of staff, Mr. Pierre Milette.
