The mission of the Grand Forks Public Library is to connect the community, enrich the mind, and inspire the imagination. by Aaron S. STEM Kids The Grand Forks Public Library has formed a partnership with the Dakota Science Center (DSC) and the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Engineering and Mines in order to provide Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities to library patrons. STEM Kids was made possible by generous grants from IEEEChicago (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and the North Dakota State Library. The grant monies were used to purchase print and audiovisual STEM materials, along with STEM kits that will be used for programming. The STEM kits provide hands-on learning opportunities, and will help children excel at school and explore new interests. OCLC’s Catalog of Art Museum Images Online documents works of art from around the world, representing the collections of several prominent museums. CAMIO can only be accessed using a library computer. Skull watch with stand. Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco http://camio.oclc.org/u?/ FAMSF,1519 To try CAMIO, click Online Databases on our homepage or the Research page. The database page will open, showing a complete list of library databases. Click on the CAMIO graphic, and the website will open in a new window. You will have the option to choose the type of art you would like to browse. Click more for a full list of art types, as well as a list of contributing museums. You can see all items from an individual museum by clicking on the name of the museum. There is also a search bar at the top of the page. There does not seem to be any order to the results list (unless you choose to view the list of items from an individual museum, which are listed in alphabetical order). You can refine the results by date, format, creator, and sometimes subject. To view the details about a piece of art, click the name or the thumbnail image. The CAMIO Work Viewer will open with a large image of the art and information about the creator, a description (not available for all art pieces), the museum where it is housed, and other important facts. You can also view the image in high-resolution. From the high-res window, you will be able to download the image. Please read the Rights statement at the bottom of the Work Viewer window to make sure your intended use of the image does not violate any Terms of Use. Most images can be used for non -commercial, educational purposes. When working with images, you can save anything you want to study further by clicking Add to favorites, located at the top and bottom of the Work Viewer. This is also where you will find the Reference URL needed to cite the work properly. You can zoom in and out, pan left, right, up and down, view the image in maximum resolution, fit the image to the window, show/hide the reference thumbnail, and clip the image, which allows you to copy the whole image, or specific details from it, and print or email it. The first three weeks of programming will be for children in grades K-2, and the final four weeks of programming will be for grades 3-6. Because of the limited space, we are requiring parents to fill out a short application form for each child. Not all children who fill out an application will be able to attend STEM Kids this summer, however, all of the STEM kits can be used again and we plan on hosting an after school STEM Kids in the fall.
