Heirloom Tomatoes 2014 [email protected] 250-727-6111 Cherry Tomatoes Indigo Rose Principe Borghese Introduced in 2012, ‘Indigo Rose’ is our only non-heirloom simply because we couldn’t resist it! This is the first TRULY purple tomato. Bred using traditional methods by Oregon State University’s agricultural programme to maximize anthocyanin (antioxidant) levels. Open-pollinated, and a heavy producer. Indeterminate, 91 days. High yields of 4 cm plum-shaped fruit. The best variety for sundried tomatoes and great size and flavour for fresh eating, too. An excellent choice for container and patio growing. Semideterminate plants produce midseason through to first frost. No shoulders. No cracking. Determinate, 80 days. Red Cherry The classic red cherry tomato. Superb flavour and high production of pretty, bright red fruit, all through the season. Indeterminate, 60 days. Beefsteak Tomatoes Red Beefsteak Chiante Rose Needs no greater description – the classic red, meaty beefsteak tomato. The standard choice for all you sandwich and BBQ fiends out there. Indeterminate 96 days. A large-fruited variety well suited to our cooler summer temperatures. Of the beefsteak tomatoes, the Chianti Rose is one of the most crack resistant and earliest to produce. Though not a heavy producer, it is certainly worth growing for it’s delicate flavour and reliability. Indeterminate, 80 days. Crimson Carmello Exquisite tasting, this French tomato produces bright red, juicy fruits on tall, vigorous vines with good uniformity and disease resistant. Indeterminate, 75 days. Roma or Paste Tomatoes King Umberto Plum Federle This plum variety produces prolific oval, pink fruit in clusters of 6-8, great for drying or making into paste. This heirloom variety predates 1885, and was named after the Italian King of the era. Indeterminate, 75 days. Solid yields of jumbo 7" long red banana shaped tomatoes with a cute little ‘tail’ at the end. With a full rich flavour and very few seeds this is an excellent processing type for making paste and heavy sauces. Also great for salsa. Indeterminate, 90 days. Pompeii Sauce Black Plum These rather gangly plants produces heavy yields of flavourful red tomatoes. Growing in pendulous clusters, this plant is both prolific and ornamental. Excellent for sauce paste and container growing. Indeterminate Bush, 76 days. This Russian heirloom produces a long and steady crop of 5 cm long elongated plumshaped fruits coloured a beautiful deep-mahogany with dusky-green shoulders. Fruit resembles a small paste tomato but with thinner walls. Unique sweet tangy flavour. Indeterminate, 82 days. Red Roma Just as the name says: a red, Roma type tomato. Meaty, with little juice, the classic tomato for Italian pasta sauces and cooking. Thick flesh, few seeds, and 2-3” fruit. Semi-Determinate, 85 days. Red Plum High yields of deep red plum shaped tomatoes hang in heavy clusters, so this plant benefits from staking. Tomatoes are very sweet, and have a rich flavour. Excellent in salads and canning. Determinate Bush, 73 days. Speckled Roman Stunning and unique, these long red and orange fruit ripen with waxy golden stripes! A mid-sized fruit with meaty flesh and sweet flavour, the fruit also has very few seeds. Plants are tall and gangly, so require staking. Semi-Indeterminate, 85 days. Maida’s Kootenay Giant ! Probably the largest Roma you’ll ever grow or see! Incredibly large, meaty, lowseed fruits grow prolifically on a determinate vine. From our neighbour, Wes, who got the seeds from Mr. Maida in the Kootenays, who brought these with him from Italy as a young immigrant. Not offered in any other seed catalogue as far as we know. This plant has quite the unusual, drooping (and decorative!) growth habit so needs staking. Indeterminate, 75 days. Slicing and Salad Tomatoes Stupice Tiger Tom These medium-sized tomatoes are deliciously sweet, low-acid and ripen reliably in early summer. An extra early, coldtolerant tomato that does well in our coastal climate. Bred in the Czech Republic. Indeterminate, 60-65 days. Unusual, highly productive small to medium red fruit with jagged orange, green and yellow stripes. The flavour is mild, and the fruits are low in acid with tender skin. A great looker and a real conversation piece in the summer garden! Indeterminate, 70 days. Flammé A truly beautiful persimmon orange colour and a highlyprolific variety! Fruit are very uniform, juicy and with a sweet fruity flavour. Extremely productive heirloom from France. Indeterminate, 70 days.
