The Pre z Says
Greetings all!
The summer of 2015 is in full swing and soon we will be celebrating our Nation’s
birthday.
So if you are out celebrating and have a really good time.....and here it comes, a
safety message....do not drink to excess, if you do, don’t forget to call a taxi, or a
friend, don’t hop on the cycle or get behind the steering wheel of your car.
Something to think about for the picnic meeting in August is the food. Is the
chicken and pulled pork a good choice with members bringing the salads and desert and other dishes. I will bring this up at the July meeting.
MOA rally is coming up, ride safe and remember to drink water to stay hydrated
while riding, heat and wind will dry you out quick.
Check out the what’s happening section.
That’s it for now, safe travels.
New Activities
Director!
Bruce Ostien will be taking over as
Activities Director. If you have an idea
for something fun for club members to
do, or a great ride, share and coordinate
with Bruce. He’s taken the lead, but as
with all our volunteer positions, your
help is appreciated. Thank you Bruce!
Club T-shirts Anyone?
You may have seen this shirt at GR3—Sam
Garst has created a new shirt using our
club ‘big twin’ and our state capital logo.
He’ll be taking orders for these shirts at
the club picnic in August. To order, he’ll
need your size, color and style. If you
can’t be at the picnic, contact Sam to
place your order. *NOTE: These shirts are
for CLUB MEMBERS ONLY!
Dick Olson
NOTE for Billings
If you’re headed for Billings, please note
the ALCOHOL rules at the MetraPark:
All alcohol consumed on the grounds of
the MetraPark must be purchased from
the Breakfast Club.
OK—that being said....
Please use your rally mug to consume
any beverages that might?? have arrived
in your saddlebags. Items in your camp
need to be secured out-of-site. Pass the
word to rally goers. Thanks.
You can’t ‘run’ through
a campground.
You can only ‘ran’ because
it’s ‘past tents’.

Purchasing & Tire Mounting
By Heidi Goehring
I rode over to Motorcycle Performance (MP) for a new sidecar tire. Velorex sidecars
doesn’t recommend a size or tire, so I was a little in the dark. Bill and WJ took
measurements and went to work looking for the best tire to fit the sidecar, taking
into consideration the load it typically carries and the type of riding I do. Much thanks
to them for their research & expertise. New tire, tube & tax ran about $100. Installed,
however, was a bit more than I wanted to pay.

A couple of club members stopped by a day or so later. They popped the tire off the
sidecar for me.
Treasurer: John Ong

Monday, I went to pick up my tire at MP, and politely explained that I felt a loyalty
to Steve Parker as Madison Motorsports was a strong supporter of the Madison
BMW Club. I thanked them for the offer to install, but I wanted to support Steve’s
retirement. So instead of having this done a mile from my house, I contacted Steve
and headed across town.

Steve’s shop is set up perfectly for tire mounting. He popped the old tire off, got the
new tire & tube ready, and popped it back together. Quite the equipment for doing
this quickly and efficiently. Then on to the balancing machine and TA-DA, the tire is all
set to go back on the bike.
I was there about a 1/2
hour, but he had the
work completed in
about 15 minutes—the
rest of the time was
yakking with he and
his wife. Go figure, me
yakking.
Tire Mounting?
Steve Parker is mounting and balancing tires. $20 per.
You take off wheel and bring to him. You discard old tire.
Steve’s email is [email protected]
His phone is 608-240-2929.
Call Steve the next time you have need for a tire mounted. He does a great job!

June 7, 2015 Meeting Minutes
President Richard called the meeting to order.
Next year we will also be looking
g
for a 50/50 sales volunteer as many
any
attending slipped through registration
tration
without realizing we had a raffle.
We will be taking orders for NEW club shirts. We hope to
have the order in around the time of the club picnic.
The annual club picnic will be held on August 9th at
Brigham Park in Blue Mounds. Please bring a dish to pass.
The meat and a few sides will be provided.
We may be in search of a new breakfast venue. If you have
any ideas please contact VP Dawn.
The Position of Activities Director has finally been filled by
Bruce Ostien. Thanks Bruce for stepping up.
Sue Rihn shared an MOA update: The National is in Billings
Montana this year. Don’t forget that the days are warm and
the nights are cool, so dress appropriately. Lots of things to
do; venders, music, good food and beer. See ya there.
◊ 50/50 winner: Brian Manke
◊ Breakfast winner: Mary Lulling
Sam Garst gave a rally update. Rally dates for next year are
May, 20-22nd. The Hotel has been notified of the change.
Good news, the Rally was a profitable one this year. T-shirt
sales went well. The Pony club will no longer be part of
our program. We will look into other groups in the area.
◊ July breakfast: VFW on Lakeside St.
Secretary Sherry
Happy Riding!
Note from the Editor:
I’m usually not political in our newsletter, but I think
we can all agree some things need to change, and
they need to change sooner vs. later. That’s why I
personally—NOT THE CLUB—am endorsing Bernie
Sanders. If you haven’t heard of him, there are some
things you should know.
 Bernie is a US Senator serving his 2nd term for
Vermont having won 71% of the votes.
 Bernie stands for Change! He represents the
average citizen; The middle class!
 Bernie has real ideas for change. He’s not just
talk and rhetoric. He’s got a plan to fix our
infrastructure and create real jobs.
 Bernie wants to see Americans protected, as well
as our environment. Denying climate change will
not make it go away.
 Bernie wants to end loop holes that allow the rich
to get out of paying their fair share of taxes. While
you and I continue to pay 15 to 28% of our income
or more, the uber-rich stash their money and pay
less. Many corporations don’t pay anything. Some
even get subsidies AND tax refunds while paying
nothing. A vote for Bernie will tackle corporate
welfare.
 Bernie can’t be bought! Time to get the BIG $$$
OUT of Politics!
Page 3
 Bernie can win! Vote for Bernie!!! A real grassroots
candidate!

My Tribute Ride to B.B.King
For those of you that know me, you know I’m a B.B.King
fanatic. I saw B.B.King for the first time when I was 14
years old. My older brother had tickets to see him in
Milwaukee. My parents wouldn’t let him go unless he
took me (insurance to keep him out of trouble). So we
went ... and the weather was AWFUL. A blizzard hit
Milwaukee. We started out on the bus, but the buses
shut down and we got within 10 blocks of the theatre and
had to walk the rest of the way -- right down the middle
of Wisconsin Ave. But it was worth it. B.B. was there. He
played a song. Stopped. Looked around the theatre. And
invited everyone regardless of your seat, to come down
and sit front and center. I was mesmerized. At the end of
the show, he gave me his guitar pick.
I’ve seen B.B.King play many times since then. And I’ve
been saying for years that I was gonna go to his funeral
when he passed. This May, I did just that.
On May 26, with my RT all packed, I headed for Memphis
at 7 a.m. By 10:30 I pulled over to avoid a storm. Still got
wet, but arrived early evening. Got a hotel room and did
a little wondering on Beale St. Perhaps that wasn’t the
best idea as someone backed into my RT and knocked it
over while I was doing my thing. Messed with my fairing a
little, but no serious damage.
The next day I headed straight for W.C.Handy Park. I
arrived by 9 a.m., this time parking the RT between
two squad cars, and found a place to sit. The memorial
procession was scheduled for 10. The lady I was sitting
next to happened to know an old MOA member that was
a friend of mine. Small world.
Then it started. Led by B.B.King’s guitar and his All-Star
Band, followed by marching bands, New Orlean’s style,
about 1,000 folks showed their respect. And there must
have been 5,000 people on Beale St. in attendance. Finally
the hearse went by -- that was around 2 p.m. I decided to
head out and hopefully beat the crowds and traffic. The
RT was still in its upright position.
By Brian Manke
I left Memphis and headed for Clarksdale. I was awed the
entire way -- the roads were lined with people waiting to
see a glimpse of the hearse and final procession. I mean,
they were EVERYWHERE! I looked in my side mirrors and
discovered I was about a mile AHEAD of the procession.
Must have been 40 MC cops leading the way, and how
many squad cars behind the hearse, who knows? At
Tunica, Mississippi, near the state line, I pulled over to
watch the Tennessee escort pass the hearse on to the
Mississippi police for the rest of the ride to Clarksdale. I
was witnessing history!
Spent two days in Clarksdale, then two in Indianola,
home to B.B.King’s museum and final resting place. I
attended the funeral. Every big name in Blues was there.
And everywhere you went, B.B.King music was in the
air, drifting endlessly in tribute. Any club you went to,
B.B.King was King. It was almost magical.
Time to head home. My neighbor’s were watching my cat,
but I missed the little furball and was thinking she was
probably missing me by now too. I hit the Natchez Trace,
my solo tribute ride to the King. This is 450 mile run that
goes through Mississippi to Kentuckyy at an angle.
No commercial traffic is allowed. It’s like riding
through a park. The weather was gorgeous,
rgeous, well,
except for those few storms I had to dodge.
I arrived in Nashville in time to get a hotel room
and head to B.B.King’s House of Blues.

It was possibly the best solo trip I’ve
ever done. Here’s to the King! We’ll
