A Letter from the Presidents
Harvest Moon Festival
Dear Neighbors,
Please join your neighbors on
Saturday, October 24th at 3pm for
The 2nd Annual Harvest Moon
Festival!
Here we are, the holidays right around the corner! We are very excited for
our first Coopertown Clomp 5K / 1 Mile Walk 8:30am on October 24th. At
3pm that afternoon, we will be hosting our second annual Harvest Moon
Festival on Deer Road from Clemson to Stockton.
In addition to the new events, all of Coopertown Civic Association’s long
stand traditions are back: The Turkey Trot, The Gift Card Drive, Luminary
Night with Carriage & Trolley Rides, The Holiday Card and Santa’s Visit.
Please see contents for details on all of our upcoming events! We hope you
are able to take part in some, if not all, of what our neighborhood has to
offer in the upcoming months.
The CCA is hopeful to host a Mardi Gras Party in February at Millridge.
Once we have a confirmed date, we’ll let you know!
Happy Holidays & Warmest Wishes for The New Year!
Tracy & Jan
Coopertown Clomp 5K & 1 Mile Walk
Coopertown Civic Association’s Coopertown Clomp 5K & 1 Mile Walk
will be held on Saturday, Oct 24th at 8:30 am. The race will begin at The
Coopertown Elementary School located on Coopertown Road,
Bryn Mawr, PA.
The registration link is now open!
https://runsignup.com/Race/PA/BrynMawr/CoopertownClomp5K
Although registration is open until October 23rd, the sooner you register,
the better! This is our first year, so we are not sure what the response will
be, and we want to be sure to have enough teeshirts for everyone!
We encourage, but don’t require, participants to accessorize with
Halloween garb!
If you would like to volunteer to work at registration or along the course,
please contact Jan <[email protected]> with your shirt size.
The event will take place on Deer
Road from Stockton to Clemson.
There will be spin art, pumpkin
painting, a hayride, magician,
food & drinks, music and good
company!
Please RSVP to donate an item(s)
to bring to the festival or to
volunteer to help:

Holiday Toy Drive!
Coopertown is once again collecting for needy teens. Please consider
donating a gift card in the amount of $25.
Suggested gift cards are: Target - Dicks - Sports Authority - Old Navy Ross - Visa/Mastercard/AmEx - AMC - Regal Cinemas - CVS - Rite Aid
- Walmart - Bath & Body Works
We also encourage you to supplement your gift card with a new hat &
pair of gloves.
Please drop your donation off on the front porch at 38 Meadows Lane,
Haverford by Sunday, December 13th. All donated cards, hats & gloves
will be delivered to The Support Center for Child Advocates in time for
holiday delivery.
Support the troops and
help raise $ for CHOP
in honor of the Dixon
boys– Brendan & Ryan
Brendan and Ryan both suffer
from Eosinophilic Esophagitis and
can not enjoy Halloween like most
children.
Here is how it works ~
They trick or treat and then bring
their candy to a local dentist. The
dentist sends it to the troops. He
then will give Ryan & Brendan
$1 for every pound of candy they
(and you) collect. They each buy
a Halloween gift for themselves
and the rest of the money is
donated to the Pediatric Center for
Eosinophilic Disorders at CHOP,
in honor of Brendan and Ryan
Dixon.
The CCA will be collecting
candy for The Dixons on Sunday,
November 1st at 100 Clemson
Road, Bryn Mawr. Please leave
your donation by the side/kitchen
door.
If you can’t drop candy off, please
call Jan 484-347-3217 and she’ll
pick it up from you.
Please join us for a Coopertown
Civic Association meeting on
Wednesday, November 18th at
7:30 pm at The Carr’s House- 168
Morlyn Avenue, Bryn Mawr.
Coopertown Civic
Association is comprised of
volunteers working to make this
a great place to live. We welcome
new faces & fresh or recycled
ideas.
FLASHBACK - 1971
by: SALLY EWING LIU
The Ewing Family came to Rodney Circle from Cherry Point, North Carolina on May 22, 1971, with two
bouncing boys, (Jimmy and Michael) and precious three month old daughter Jennifer !! We couldn’t have been
happier. Two houses to the left, was the Hanna Family. Al and Marguerite Hanna had Tommy and Debbie who
soon became fast friends for the boys. Two houses to the right was Carolyn, Dick and Elisabeth Sherman who
soon became Jennifer’s best friend. There were: the Klingers, Mc Donnells,Andersons, Aikens, Burds Ackermans,
Gallis,Kellys, Cardones, Smiths, Valentines, D’Orazios and Fitzpatricks, just to name afew. There would be Hide
n go Seek, baseball games, basketball games, dolls, coloring, crafts (Dru Klinger was the school teacher.... so you
had to have some educational activity). We all belonged to the swimming pools and the fun would continue
there as well. Off to Ocean City, New Jersey, every August and who would you run into on the beach??? Yepper!!
The kids had so much fun together. The dads would have their golf and politics (John Burd was on the school
board and John Fitzpatrick was our Commissioner). The moms would put the kids in the sandbox, bribe them
with candy and play tennis as much as we could get away with!! We knew everyone’s Grandparents, Aunts and
Uncles. Whatever the event, you could count on the neighbors to show up with love, support and friendship.
Snow storms were the best!! Maureen and Dick Smith would set off the phone tree and yes, 25 couples would
show up to party and make bets on the best snowmen (usually Bob Cardone came up with the best ideas...he
was my kids hero for some of them!!). I could go on and on with happy memories to bore you with but my heart
is so full of friendship and happiness. My husband Jim died 25 years ago on June 28, 1990. It was devastating
to our family but the support that our family received, lives on to today. Thank you from the bottom of my
heart. So today, I have the privilege of having three of my Grandchildren (Grace, Garrett and Tess) grow up on
a beautiful street having loving neighbors watch them run to their bus stops each morning. Sara, Kate and Lily
come to join their little Tyrell Cousins (Elle, Claire and Sam) to put up tents and play house with Erin and Ryan
Tyrell’s precious children. The Dixon Boys (Brendan, Ryan and Tommy) love to sprint to “128” after school to
MomMom and YiYi’s house to play with the Mc Kelveys (Shane and Dylan), Chris D’Orazio and Shane Baffa as
much as possible. Shannon Dixon loves to babysit Julia D’Orazio. My favorite part is taking them all sledding
and then back for hot chocolate!! Good wholesome neighborhood!! Fathers are still playing baseball, street
hockey, soccer, baseball and football with their children. Do you know where your children are? The house that
has the most bikes on the lawn. Mothers feed children by the dozen and manage all the tasks Moms do!! The
senior neighbors love to watch the next generation grow into the next generation and hope they come home to
Coopertown to raise their families as well. LOVE YOUR CHILDREN TO THE MOON AND BACK!!!
