Technical Datasheet Hardwood Flooring Systems Solutions Product Information ® 4 MVP Moisture Vapor Protection, Anti-fracture and Noise Reduction Membrane Easy Spread Bostik’s Blockade™ Antimicrobial Protection Prevents damages caused by moderate subfloor moisture Below*, On and Above Grade Installations Exceeds IRC requirements for vapor retarder Low VOC Noise reduction over substrate MVP4® Moisture Vapor Protection is a one-part, trowel applied, elastomeric, moisture cure urethane membrane designed to be used beneath glue-down installations of engineered and solid and bamboo hardwood flooring with Bostik’s Best®, BST, EFA+, or TKO adhesives. MVP4® is designed to reduce moisture vapor transmission from the subfloor, create a noise reduction barrier over the substrate, and establish an anti-fracture membrane that can bridge cracks that can occur in the substrate prior to or after installation (up to 1/8"). MVP4® may be used over all substrates common to hardwood flooring installations including: concrete, plywood, particle or chip board (underlayment grade), well bonded vinyl, ceramic tile, cement backer board, cement patch/underlayments, radiant heat flooring, gypsum concrete and terrazzo. MVP4® may be applied to fresh “green” concrete as soon as it has achieved “initial set” (when concrete can be walked on without disturbing the surface). MVP4® contains Bostik BLOCKADE™ antimicrobial protection which inhibits the growth of bacteria, mold or mildew on the surface of the dried membrane; the dried membrane resists stains caused by mold. MVP4® independently tested in a controlled laboratory environment to measure the IIC (Impact Insulation Class) according to ASTM E49204 and E989-89 and STC (Sound Transmission Class) according to ASTM E90-04 and E413-04 standards installed with 9/16" thick engineered wood flooring over a 6" concrete sub floor with a 5/8" suspended gypsum ceiling, achieved an IIC = 62 and a STC = 61, with no suspended ceiling, IIC = 49 and STC = 52. Visit us on the Web at: www.bostik-us.com Directions for Use Read and understand data sheet completely before beginning installation. Follow industry standards and wood flooring manufacturer’s recommendations for design, layout and application of wood flooring materials; including test methods, jobsite temperature and relative humidity. If jobsite conditions are outside of wood flooring manufacturer’s recommendations, take necessary corrective actions. Whether the moisture content of substrate exceeds or is within the wood flooring manufacturer’s recommendations, to address current or possible future subfloor moisture, cracks (up to 1/8"), or noise, apply a layer of MVP4 according to directions and allow material to cure for a minimum of 12 hours. Surface Preparation Surfaces must be clean, dry and smooth; free of voids, projections, loose materials, oil, grease, sealers and all other surface contaminants. Completely remove cutback adhesive residue by sandblasting, shotblasting or scarifying. When sandblasting, shotblasting or scarifying, surface texture must be similar to light broom finished concrete. Maximum acceptable floor variation is 3/16" in 10 feet. Surface areas requiring patching or leveling must be done using cement based patches, such as Bostik™ Fast Patch 102™or SL-150™Self Leveling Underlayment prior to the application of MVP4. PLEASE NOTE: Concrete substrates should NOT be smooth and reflective; it should have a profile or broom-type surface texture for the adhesive/ membrane to properly penetrate and bond. Installation Apply MVP4 using the notched side of a Bostik #9 V-Notch Trowel (3/16" x 5/32" deep) to achieve a flat, uniformly thick 60-mil membrane (thickness of a credit card). MVP4 is designed to level and heal with little need for flat-troweling to achieve a continuous membrane. Cure TIme Allow MVP4 to cure, 12-16 hours prior to installation of flooring. Once cured, any pinholes or bubbles may be filled with a Bostik urethane adhesive while wood flooring is installed. Humidity affects cure to a greater degree than temperature; the higher the humidity, the faster the cure. Keep off membrane until material cures; usually 12-16 hours. To help protect the cured membrane from scuffing, tears, scratches, dust, dirt, or other jobsite contamination, install hardwood flooring as soon as possible. Clean-up As you work, immediately clean any adhesive from prefinished flooring with Bostik’s Ultimate™ Adhesive Remover or mineral spirits (be careful not to harm finish), then dry buff with a non-abrasive paper towel. Immediately clean all tools and equipment with Bostik’s Ultimate™ Adhesive Remover or mineral spirits before material cures. TROWEL CLEAN-UP TIP: Before use, cover areas of the trowel that are not used to spread the adhesive with duct tape. After use, simply tear off tape before material cures, and clean the remainder of the trowel with adhesive remover. Storage/Shelf Life Store at temperatures between 50°F and 100°F. Shelf life is one year from date of manufacturing in closed, original packaging. Re-Seal Partially Used Container: With pail upright place a sheet of plastic (e.g., trash bag) over the top of the pail. Secure lid tightly over the plastic on top of pail. Carefully turn pail upside down. Plastic will help prevent the material from bonding the lid closed. Limitations • Installation/jobsite must be within wood flooring manufacturer’s recommended relative humidity and temperature range. • Due to inherent limitations with gypsum based materials in wet/moist environments, gypsum based patches/ underlayments should not be used with MVP4 to treat moisture related issues. MVP4 may be used with gypsum based patches/underlayments in dry, above grade installations with minimum compressive strengths >2,000 psi for engineered hardwood installation, or minimum compressive strength >2,500 psi for solid hardwood installations, when MVP4 only used as a noise reduction barrier and anti-fracture membrane. • Do not use over concrete slabs treated with sealers or curing compounds. • Completely remove cutback adhesive residue (and other surface contaminants) by sandblasting, shotblasting, or scarifying. • Do not use MVP4 as an adhesive. • Do not use in areas subject to hydrostatic head. • Do not use MVP4 below VCT/vinyl or other flooring materials. • MVP4 is not intended for use as a stand alone coating or surface treatment. MVP4 is intended to be used under glue-down wood flooring installations only. • Do not use over VCT/vinyl when installing solid hardwood flooring. Re-Open Partially Used Container: Carefully turn pail right side up. Remove lid. Carefully cut and discard cured material and plastic from top of pail. Any uncured material may be used. Membrane Reduces Moisture Vapor Emissions • This membrane is designed to reduce moisture vapor emissions that originate/emanate from below the membrane only. Wood Flooring • This membrane does NOT reduce/affect issues originating from the sides, ends, or top of flooring (ie. puddles, water, leaks, hydrostatic-head, etc.). • This membrane does NOT eliminate all possible moisture related or install related isues (i.e. improper acclimation of flooring, jobsite temperature/relative humidity, etc.). or Subfloor u ist Mo Moisture Vapor Protection (MVP4®) Any Bostik Wood Flooring Urethane Adhesive p Va re • This membrane is designed to prevent excessive variance of moisture between the top, middle, and bottom of flooring that originates from the substrate.
