Guests Today at Conejo... Top Ten Reasons to Attend the 2012
April 29, 2012 VOL. XLVI, No. 18 Welcome Guests The members of the Conejo Valley Church of Christ welcome you to our assembly. We are pleased that you are here and pray that you will encounter God as you worship with us. We invite you to join us for our various Bible classes at 9:30 a.m. During our worship services, we have a 2s/3s Class and Children's Worship for ages 4 through 5th grade. Look for the dismissal time in our Order of Worship. Jerry Rushford Guest Preaching Today, Conejo’s own Jerry Rushford will be guest preaching at both services. His message, titled “The Older Hymns, I Predict, Will Make a Comeback,” will explore the power of memory and the wonder of classic hymns. Jerry is the director of the 69th Annual Pepperdine Bible Lectures, which will take place from May 1-4. The lecture theme, taken from the book of Romans, is “Living Between The Times.” Ministry Emphasis Sunday Today at Conejo... 8:00 a.m. First Worship Service, Jerry Rushford Guest Preaching 9:00 a.m. College-Age Class at the Rivas home 9:30 a.m. Bible Classes for all ages 10:45 a.m. Second Worship Service, Jerry Rushford Guest Preaching Top Ten Reasons to Attend the 2012 Pepperdine Bible Lectures “Living Between the Times: Lifted Up By Hope in Romans 5-8” is the theme of this week’s 69th Annual Pepperdine University Bible Lectures. The program begins in Malibu this Tuesday evening, May 1 and concludes on Friday night, May 4. From Jonathan Storment kicking off with his Tuesday evening keynote address to Conejo’s own Jerry Rushford bringing it all together on Friday night, this week promises to be memorable from start to finish. Here are my top ten reasons for attending this spiritually stimulating, relationally reconnecting, intellectually enriching, and physically invigorating week. 10. Pepperdine is a beautiful drive from the Conejo Valley on Las Virgenes Canyon Road, a designated California Scenic Drive; if you’ve over-driven that route, try bucolic Kanan Road to PCH. 9. You’ve already had five weeks to watch and re-watch “The Hunger Games” (go team Peeta). And you’ll have all summer to see “The Avengers.” 8. The program is free! The stair-master exercise program all over campus is included at no extra charge. And child-care is available each morning and evening for a nominal fee. 7. Next week’s temperatures in Malibu will range fromlows in the mid-50s to highs in the high 60s, with sunny to mostly sunny conditions. In other words, perfect! 6. Seven keynote lectures and more than 330 classes and performances, including classes taught by thirteen Conejo members, three Conejo singers in various singing groups, and many more Conejo “alums.” 5. In the local concert scene, the Beach Boys aren’t in SoCal ‘till May 28, Dave Matthews plays on September 8, and, alas, Taylor Swift tickets are not currently available! Just don’t ask me about Coldplay. 4. You can still catch the first round of the Laker’s playoff series on DVR. And if divisional rankings end up as they currently stand, the Lakers will match up yet again with the Denver Nuggets. We’ve seen that movie before! 3. Nightly AWP pie and coffee in the “caf” with cherished friends from 45 states and 35 nations. 2. Jerry Rushford will be the closing night theme lecturer, following 30 years of serving as the director for the Pepperdine Bible Lectures. You won’t want to miss Jerry’s closing sermon at the lectures he has passionately cultivated and built for three decades. Conejo Clipboard 1. A great opportunity to worship God, study His Word, share heartfelt times of worship, fellowship with dear friends, and be spiritually revitalized! From Andrew Benton, president of Pepperdine University, comes the following message: “It would be difficult to overestimate the impact Dr. Rushford has had on these lectures, on the fellowship of Churches of Christ, and on the work of the Gospel around the world… He has worked tirelessly for these past 30 years to create understanding and love between the various segments of the church. The Bible Lectures under his direction have been inclusive rather than narrow, expansive rather than inward thinking, loving rather than suspicious and doubting.” I look forward to seeing you in Malibu this week as we lift up our hearts and voices in praise!
