Arrangements for parents and godparents may be made by phoning the Parish Office—708-388-8190 When we are forgiven much, we tend to return love for forgiveness. Think how grateful we are to someone who pays a dollar or so of our groceries, or who with little or no complaint allows us ahead in line. Think what relief we have when we apologize for some small fault and the person we're apologizing to says, "It was nothing." How much more then should we love the Person whom we have killed by our faults, the Savior who forgives everything, completely! How much can we love Someone who has forgiven before we even ask it of Him? Our debt to Jesus is a debt of profound, complete, allencompassing love, and a greater debt because we have been forgiven so much. How do I tell others of God's love for me? Someone said that 'Evangelism is one beggar telling another beggar where he found bread.' Have a blessed week and pray for those who have lost their loved ones recently. We had too many funerals lately… Fr. Kris “Notes” from Phil & Amy A Merciful God who Forgives (So let Jesus Live in Your Heart) Our Entrance Antiphon (Ps 27): O Lord, hear my voice, for I have called to you; be my help. Do not abandon or forsake me, O God, my Savior! The First Reading from 2 Samuel: David sinned against the Lord, but Nathan answered him: “The Lord on his part has forgiven your sin: you shall not die.” Our Responsorial Psalm 32: Lord, forgive the wrong I have done. The Second reading from Galatians: Paul preached to the Galatians “I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me.” The Gospel Acclamation: God loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins. Our Gospel from Luke: Jesus said to Simon the Pharisee of the women who washed and anointed his feet, “I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven because she has shown great love.” And our Communion Antiphon (Ps27): There is one thing I ask of the Lord, only this do I seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. Again, from today’s second reading, “I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God…” (Galatians 2:20) During December I was asked to speak on the Psalms for the Divine Mercy monthly Mission talks. I decided it was important to speak about the Shepherd Boy David who wrote over a third of our psalms of the Psalter or, the Book of Psalms, fashioned by a labor of scholars and artists for assemblies to sing and individuals to recite. This shepherd boy spent many a lonely night under the starts in the open fields with much time on his hands. Shepherd Boy David, the instrumentalist, the writer, and a witness to the Nativity Scene and beholding Jesus in a cattle troft, certainly experienced a huge gambit of emotions that are offered in the Psalms. In Advent we pray in preparation of the Messiah, “O Key of David, open the gates….come free the prisoners of darkness.” If we go deeper, we learn that the body is the echo of the soul, our inner reality, a body prepared for us, “realizing” physical expression. Christ’s love in the end blossomed for him and us through passionate physical expression on the cross. The key to Mercy is what we owe ourselves and others and that is what intensifies “Life”. So why all this? Well, jump ahead to today’s readings. This is about King David who went terribly wrong – adulteress, murderer, portraying evil, sin. Maybe somebody at the psalms talk (of which I could hardly speak that day with laryngitis) remembers that I paused to have Amy and Lucie sing the song (from Shrek) Hallelujah, and sang the verses of King David. Well, King David is that same Shepherd Boy David. Think about that for a moment. Then understand that God’s word reached King David’s heart. He acknowledges his sin and God has Mercy and forgives! The same in our scripture for a nameless woman who responds humbly; So often our human hearts push away God’s outstretched hands and arms of mercy. So today, simply said, let Jesus go into your body, soul and heart and then let Jesus “Live” in you. Paul says “He’ll do the rest.” Who is the center of your life? Life is a gift from God, sing it out – Our God is an Awesome God! Phil & Amy HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING AT ST.
