Mill Creek Farm Gazette Oct. 2015
This month we welcomed two new retirees to Mill Creek Farm, launched our new website, vaccinated all the horses for Eastern and Western Encephalitis and Tetanus, and started stocking the pastures with coastal hay. — Mary and Paul Gregory, Shane, Ryan, The Volunteers and all the Horses Retirement Home for Horse, Inc. at Mill Creek Farm Welcome El Capitan (a.k.a. Cappy) Gelding/Palomino QH/DOB: 1996 El Capitan (Cappy) retired from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department after serving 10 years in the Mounted Patrol Division. Some of his duties included patrolling the city and beach as well as enforcing crowd control at major events. El Capitan (L) and Schatzy (R) Welcome Sky Gelding /Flea-Bitten Gray Arabian/ 28 Years Old Sky Snowflake(L) and Sky(R) Sky was surrendered to the Sumter County Animal Services by his owner. We got a call from Dawn at Faith Equine Rescue on Friday evening telling us about him and that he was scheduled to be euthanized on the following Tuesday October 6th. We spent the weekend trying to get hold of Animal Services and finally on Monday we were able to talk to someone and get his execution delayed. A volunteer at Faith Equine was able to transport Sky to us that Thursday. He is now in a pasture with our Snowflake and it was love at first sight for these two. He is underweight, as well as his pasture mate, and we have begun the process of putting some much needed pounds on both of them. We are so excited to share with everyone the news about our website. Vortex Communications created the new website which was underwritten by a longtime supporter of the horses at Mill Creek Farm. The site is up and running and the new design is smartphone and tabletfriendly with features to make it easier to stay connected or get involved. Check it out on-line!! It's hay time once again at Mill Creek Farm. We put the hay in the fields long before a frost so the horses have plenty of time to transition off the grass.
