Our mission has been to strengthen the mathematics
and science preparation and achievement of all
students through supporting alignment of all the key
components of mathematics and science education:
the state standards, accountability system, assessment,
and standards for teacher certification. We have
focused our efforts in recent years on providing
resources to help local communities meet the
demands of the education system—by strengthening
mathematics and science professional development,
and by publishing and disseminating mathematics and
science education resources.
Why are we here?
Early 2005, the Texas legislature adopted the
revised secondary mathematics Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). As
mandated by the legislature, the revised
secondary TEKS are to be implemented in Fall
2006.
– What does this mean for us as teachers and
educational/instructional leaders?
– Where can we go for updated resources aligned
to the revised TEKS?
My School…
On a scale of 1-10, rate the effect that the
revised TEKS will have on the mathematics
department or program at your school.
1 = Revised TEKS? What are those? We won’t
need to change a thing.
10 = We have to revise our curriculum,
instruction, and professional development
opportunities. It looks like a lot will change.
Impact of the Revised
TEKS
The revised TEKS will impact:
•Instruction ~ pedagogy and instructional
resources
•Curriculum ~ textbooks, focus, depth, and rigor
•Professional development ~ TEKS-focus, depth,
and timing

TEKS
TEKS-based Resource:

An online resource hub for activities,
lessons, and assessments that are TEKSbased.
The mathematics TEKS toolkit has been
revised.
What will we do today?
In this session, we will examine the
revised TEKS and explore the
Mathematics TEKS Toolkit to locate
revised resources to help in the
implementing the revised TEKS this
fall.
The Revised TEKS
Examine your course’s revised TEKS:
The Revised TEKS
Examine your course’s revised TEKS. Find at
least one example where the revised TEKS will
impact each (be prepared to share):
•Instruction ~ pedagogy and instructional
resources
•Curriculum ~ textbooks, focus, depth, and rigor
•Professional development ~ TEKS-focus, depth,
and timing
What’s New?
The Toolkit and its resources have been
updated to include revised:
• TEKS;
• Activities;
• Lessons;
• Assessments (both classroom and TAKS);
And a useful and obvious connection
between each.
Where on the Toolkit is
all of this?
…for the TEKS revisions, go to
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
…for instructional resources, go to
Instructional Materials
How can I tell if
something has been
revised?
Look for the ‘disclaimer box’ at the top
of each page containing a resource.
What else can I access
from the homepage?
Instructional Support
Other math-related resources
Where do I go from here?
1. Some of you will walk out of here with copies
of some of the Dana Center’s current resources.
2. Visit the Toolkit at least once within the first
week after CAMT: www.mathtekstoolkit.org
3. Commit to using one of the resources from the
Toolkit during the first two weeks of class.
4. Continue to check the Toolkit often for updates
and revisions to our resources.
Did I win?
Pick up your Math TEKS Toolkit pencil.
Is the end of it colored?
If so, come to the front to select your resource!
