Two Received Volunteer of the Year!
GO
Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated Chamber Week,
September 20-26. It provides the Chamber an opportunity to celebrate its many
accomplishments and achievement, and an excellent time to thank the many
people who make them happen.
GOACC presents the Volunteer of the Year Award to a volunteer who has shown
extraordinary involvement in the Chamber and who supports the chamber to its
fullest. This person is selected by the GOACC staff.
This year, Mary Rich and
Holly Nidell received the
designation. Meme Krahe
Yanetsko, Chief Operating
Officer stated, “As in each
case, we have a hard time
picking out one person - one
person who rises above. So
we picked two! But these
two are a pair – where
one volunteers the other
one does too. These two
began their volunteering
with GOACC at our Sports
Show out at the Dan Carter
Center. There it grew to
GOACC Volunteers of the Year, Mary Rich and Holly Nidell
the Clambake registration
table, to the Taste of Olean,
and to the Rally in the Valley. They not only give themselves, they give us feed
back on our events – they want to work more hours at the Clambake – 90 minutes
is not enough for them!”
They received their awards at the Chamber’s Volunteer Reception at Randy’s
Fireside in Olean during the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce Week
in September.

COMING TO THE OLEAN
CENTER MALL!
Downtown Bradford now has a new
business and the Olean Center Mall is
getting a showplace broadcast facility
thanks to growth at Colonial Media
+ Entertainment.
A historic building at 53 Main Street
in downtown Bradford is the studio
and sales office for the Company’s
Quaker State Broadcasting division.
Meanwhile, the company’s Olean
Radio Group has started construction
on a showplace broadcast facility
inside the Olean Center Mall.
When construction is completed in
November, the Olean Center Mall
facility will include a state-of-the-art
broadcasting studio along with sales
offices.
The
Quaker
State division is
headquartered
in Bradford and
operates the two
stations focused on
McKean County:
Bob 103.9 (Country)
and 95.3/99.3 Hot
FM (Hot AC). The
Olean Radio Group
is headquartered in
Olean and operates
The Mountain @
106.3 & 98.7 (Adult
Hits), WVTT
NewsRadio 93.9
(News/Talk), V96.7
(Hot AC), and Eagle 99.1 (Country).
The Quaker State Broadcasting
division is headed by Market
Manager Toni Kloss, a Bradfordian
who has been with the Company
since 2013. And the Olean Radio
Group division is headed by Market
Manager Megan Simms, a Smethport
native who has been with the
Company since 2012 and also serves
as Director of Sales for the entire
Company. Both Kloss and Simms
have close ties to the community and
are actively involved in numerous
community organizations and
boards.

Cayas Canopies Buys Tent Washer
Cayas Canopies, 1000 East State Street, Olean, has purchased a
Charnecke BK2000 tent washing machine. This industrial washer
has a 64-inch stainless steel drum housed within a 10ft x 10ft x 10ft
frame and is capable of washing 2000 square feet of tent vinyl at one
time. By mechanizing the washing process Cayas can make dirty
tents—and all the work they bring–
a thing of the past!
“In the past we have used scrub
brushes on our hands and knees,
pressure washers, and floor
buffers, but this manual method
simply does not provide the
same quality washing as our new
industrial washer” said Andrew
Caya, owner. The tent washer
uses heated wash water and this
water and the rinse water is filtered
and recycled to make the process
environmentally friendly. Washing
tents has never been easier. “The
BK2000 Tent Washer gets our
Andrew Caya, Corey Miller of Cayas Canopies
tents consistently and completely
clean and extends the life of the tents. And the labor savings with
a tent washing machine are huge! The entire process is very easy -from loading and unloading to user-friendly controls. Our washing
operation has been simplified!”
Cayas Canopies is a family owned tent and event rental company
operating since 1987. Year round employment is 6 people, with
employment in season of 12 - 15. For information on how you can
have your tents cleaned call 716-372-1308.

SCALE in Cattaraugus County
The Cattaraugus County Healthy Livable Community Consortium has been meeting
for the last four years, and is now getting national attention for their efforts. This
national attention has taken the form of what is known as a SCALE grant, with SCALE
meaning Spreading Community Accelerators through Learning and Evaluation. This
grant initiative provides technical support and resources to help the organizations
throughout Cattaraugus County be more successful in their efforts.
What SCALE means for Cattaraugus County is that there are now resources to help our
county focus on improving the health outcomes of the citizens of this county, and to
assist organizations in this county who are working to improve our communities. The
overall goal of the SCALE Initiative is to encourage collaboration between organizations
throughout the county and to provide these collaboratives and coalitions with the tools
they need to be successful. These SCALE efforts will provide the citizens of Cattaraugus
County with more access to and education about healthy foods, support for families
who are trying to become healthier, assistance for schools and organizations that want
to follow healthier food and exercise guidelines and generally help the county reduce
chronic disease.
The SCALE Initiative is led by the Health Department and the Office for Aging, but it
also includes a wide variety of other organizations including employers, rural health
networks, the hospital, primary care offices, social service agencies, town and city
governments, schools, colleges, universities and non-profit organizations throughout
the county. SCALE is bringing all of these diverse entities together to figure out what
is needed to help make Cattaraugus a healthier and more livable community.
What SCALE means specifically for employers is that all of the efforts supported by
SCALE will potentially create healthier employees and future employees. For example,
reduction in obesity which is a goal of SCALE will help reduce the rates of diseases
such as diabetes and coronary artery disease which in turn could reduce sick time and
reduce back and knee injuries which also translate to lost time on the job. SCALE is a
county wide effort to make everyone healthier, and we look forward to finding ways to
work with the employer community to make this work for their employees and their
families as we move forward with this initiative.
“RAISE THE WOOF” AT SHELTER
The SPCA in Cattaraugus County is embarking on a critical fund raising campaign for
the needed $250,000 to immediately begin updates on our heating, venting, insulation
and most importantly, to raise the critical $85,000 for full repair of the Shelter’s 35 year
old roof. The organizations’ executive director, Geri Anne Elsen notes “We are very
grateful to receive a first major gift and key challenge from local businessman Mel
Duggan, of Duggan and Duggan, General Contractor, Inc.”.
Mr. Duggan recently visited the shelter, reviewed the operations, and stated the
following after the visit; “Because I feel so strongly about the need, I am donating
$1000.00 and the cost of postage for 200 mailings. Using this postage I would like the
SPCA to send out challenge from Duggan and Duggan, to 200 businesses in the area,
to please help this cause.”
Board Chair Dan Evans, owner of Pleasant Valley Greenhouses, immediately matched
Mr. Duggan’s challenge with donation of $1000 from Pleasant Valley Greenhouses.
The SPCA hopes that all local businesses and individuals consider an immediate
donation to our “Raise the Woof” campaign by donating specifically to this cause. With
200 local businesses rising to meet the challenge, and individual
donors providing donations, the organization can raise the needed
dollars for this critical need.
Donations can be provided to the organization by sending via
mail, at PO Box 375, Olean, NY 14760, by dropping by our facility
located at 2944 Route 16 N, Olean, NY, 14760 or by visiting our
website at http://spcacattco.webstarts.com and click on the
“donate now” button. All donations can be specifically restricted
to the roof replacement project.

•DO YOU HAVE
YOUR
EMV
CREDIT
CARD
READER? -- The
nationwide EMV migration is well
underway. What exactly is EMV?
The U.S. banks are switching up the
insides of our credit cards. They’re
adding EMV technology, which
stands for “Europay, MasterCard,
and Visa.” Translation: Credit cards
will be equipped with a super-small
computer chip that’s extremely hard
to counterfeit.
So how exactly will this affect
your business? You’ll need a new
processing device to read the chip
cards. Businesses that don’t have an
EMV processing device could be on
the hook for fraudulent chip card
transactions. (This information was
provided at www.squareup.com)
GOACC encourages all businesses
with a credit card machine to
contact the organization that you are
associated with on the machine to
transfer over to th EMV technology.
CHAMBER word of the month! - ‘CLUTTER’ - Although not a new
word, a new definition. Clutter is a new mailbox management feature of Office
365 for Business which is also coming to Outlook.com. Clutter analyzes how
you process all your email and moves the “unimportant stuff” out of your Inbox
folder and places that into the Clutter folder. So basically, the Clutter folder is
your “second-tier” Inbox folder containing emails that you usually ignore.
