Good News February 12, 2016 Mock Trial Scholarships The prosecution team of Mady Lester, Kathryne Kelly, Cameron Mihossaini, Sam Ahoor, Jose Benavides, Abby Bean, Chris Bumpus, Imma Honkanen, Rachel Wilsey, Emma Longwell, Holly McKibben, Atlanta Haliburton, and Morgan Wessells ar e headed to state competition! JV’s defense team also did very well missing the cutoff for state by a few points and ended up 7th out of 15 teams. This team is primarily comprised of freshmen and first year members so their performance was especially spectacular considering many of them had never seen competition before. Congratulations to Izzy Wilson, Lauren Keller, Layla Roebke, Jeresa Bennet, Kyle Reeves, Zoe Sikon, Jake Kennan, Noah Durrance, Lilli Hansen, Sierra Meisner, Justin Ott, Dominic McCarron, Andrew Wills, and Wade Rahaman. Coronado is celebrating its athletes who signed National Letters of Intent on Thursday, February 4, 2016. Please congratulate them on their hard work and incredible talent. Kaylee Uebel (bottom left), Gir ls Soccer, Adams State College Emily Ambuul (bottom center ), Gir ls Soccer, Benedictine College Allison Hill (bottom r ight), Gir ls Soccer, Sheridan College Rachele Smith (right) has been accepted to West Point Military Academy, focusing on the leadership development of cadets in the academic, military, and physical domains, all underwritten by adherence to a code of honor. Congratulations. Talented Musician Kaleb Rinck, fr eshman, taught himself to play the piano and performs music by ear, a natural ability that comes easily to him. Not just single notes; full chords. But for many, including those who have studied music, playing by ear is a skill that takes a great deal of time to cultivate. KUGR-TV recently featured Kaleb on Episode 14. Hockey Coronado’s hockey team started the month of January with a devastating loss against Denver East Angels, but ended with a decisive victory! Losing Tanner Pochipinski and Ian Wark to injury and playing several games Jake Winger, the team spent most of the month trying to regroup, until Saturday night. Climbing Club CHS Climbing Team will qualify 4 teams and 3 individuals for the state meet February 27 at Rock’n and Jam’n Climbing Gym in Thornton. Men’s Varsity, women’s Varsity, men’s and women’s JV all qualified. Additionally, the men’s varsity team is currently ranked 1st in the SoCO region, our women’s varsity team is ranked 3rd, and our men’s JV team is ranked 2nd behind Palmer. Also for Coronado men, Matt Smith is ranked 8th, Ryan Kight is ranked 12th, and Ryan Binkley is ranked 20th. For our women, Skyler Williams is ranked 21st, Stacy Hayes is ranked 22nd, and Aubrey Therit is ranked 55th. Wyatt Maples, who works out with our team but represents Manitou, is ranked 6th, and has been a great addition to our workouts sharing his knowledge with our teams. Bowling Yes, Coronado has a bowling team! This is not affiliated with the bowling class taught by Coach Christensen, but a full-fledged extra-curricular competitive league team. Our RED team comprised of Michael Bauers, Anthony Scrivens, Brandin Maestas, and Jamie Rumble have qualified for state competition. On January 30 the Cougars were a team reunited in their victory over Air Academy. Tanner Pochipinski got the Cougars fired up with a first period goal, assisted by defenseman Jonah Henry. Chris Phillips str uck next with a power play goal on a pass from Jake Winger. The team skated to the locker room with renewed confidence and a 2-0 lead. Marley Machin got in on the action at the star t of the second with an unassisted goal. Machin and Max Van Lancker both were credited for goals scored by Tanner Pochipinski and Tanner Mayberry. Pochipinski ended the second period with a hat trick, assists by Andrew Burton and Tanner Mayberry. Beau Foos and the defensemen, Max Van Lanker, Jake Winger, Jonah Henry, Trevor Gordon and Matt Reynolds were looking for a shut out in the third, however, Air Academy scored in the last minute and a half. A little too late for the Kadets as Foos made 28 saves on 29 shots and the Cougars came off the ice with a 6-1 victory.
