The Moreland Messenger Principal: Ms. Schoonover Assistant Principals: Mrs. Kidd Collins & Mr. McKenzie December 2015 Ms. Schoonover, Principal Message Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Positive Behavior Intervention and Support is a framework that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create a positive learning environment in schools. PBIS addresses behavior through a prevention­oriented structure of research­based interventions and supports and is based upon a philosophy of recognizing positive contributions of students. As part of PBIS, all staff members take on the responsibility of teaching behavior expectations in our cafeterias, playground, school buses, hallways, restrooms and classrooms. This means that students will know exactly what is expected of them, take responsibility for their behavior, and be positively recognized for good choices and success. More information regarding PBIS at MHS will be coming your way as the team continues to build upon our resources to support students. ____________________________________________________________ SMS Texting Announcement The Orange City School District is excited to announce the launch of a new service that will enhance communication by allowing us to deliver important information to parents via SMS text messaging. In order to participate in the new service you must opt­in to receive text messages from the schools to your mobile phone. The process is simple and only takes a few seconds to complete. You can either: ● Reply "yes" to the SMS text message you received from the Orange Schools via SchoolMessenger ● Or, simply text the word "yes" to the number 68453 You will receive a confirmation message from SchoolMessenger letting you know you have successfully opted­in to SMS texting. At this time, only parents and guardians who have mobile phone numbers in our student information system will be able to opt­in. Please note, although the district does not charge you for this service, it does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by you for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your wireless carrier for possible charges. Message and Data rates may apply. MHS Office ● Recess is the perfect opportunity for MHS students to play in the snow! Please remember to pack your child’s boots, snow pants and winter accessories so they can participate in the fun filled winter activities! ● If you are planning a family getaway while school is still in session, it is important to complete a “Planned Absence Form” and submit it to the office for approval. Extra forms are located in the front office bins. ● Classroom holiday parties will take place on Friday, December 18th at 2:30pm, unless otherwise indicated by homeroom teachers. Students participate in physical activities and musical challenges highlighting good sportsmanship and teamwork! Mr. McKenzie’s Veterans Day Update The students at Moreland Hills School participated in the Coins for Courage collection on November 10th to support Honor Flight. Honor Flight is an organization that sponsors Cleveland area veterans in a trip to Washington DC to see the memorials to the wars in which they served. It costs 250.00 to send one veteran on the trip, and MHS students collected $2,234.93 this year. The students worked collaboratively to write and illustrate cards to accompany the veterans on the spring flight.
