Returning to the U.S from her summer tour in Europe, Baez will be making her debut performance at The Capitol Theatre on October 13th. Don’t miss your chance to see this music icon live! Their first appearance will be at The Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut on October 9th with their second area show at the historic Capitol Theatre in the heart of Port Chester, NY on October 27th. Tickets are available at the respective theater box offices. The Original Wailers will bring a fun night of reggae! Formed and led by guitar player Al Anderson, who is known for his extensive work with Bob Marley, the band aims to keep Bob Marley’s legacy alive. Al Anderson has united with a group of handpicked musicians to honor the history and integrity of Marley’s music with The Original Wailers. Anderson first joined Bob Marley & The Wailers in 1973, going on to play with Bob until his untimely death in 1981. Al was an integral part of the Bob Marley & The Wailers sound, forever imprinting his guitar solos and production skills on the catalog that has sold more than 75 million records and touched so many around the world. In 1974 when Bob Marley went solo, on the brink of international stardom, he surprised the music community by choosing as his lead guitarist the soft spoken, American-born Al Anderson. It was Anderson’s stunning lead work on such classics as “No Woman, No Cry”, “Dem Belly Full” and “Curfew (Three O’ Clock Road Block),” that first alerted rock fans to the Wailers’ music. More than a billion dollars worth of Marley’s music featuring Al Anderson’s evocative guitar work has been sold worldwide. Al has also played with the Peter Tosh, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Inner Circle, Traffic and Ben Harper. Al Anderson is the sole member of the Wailers mid-1970s line-up in The Original Wailers. The reformed configuration includes Chet Samuel (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Rohan Reid (Bass Guitar), Howard Smith (Drums) and Noel Aiken (Keyboards and Organ) that carry forward the true spirit and realities of the original music and the message of “One Love”. Al Anderson’s main ambition is to promote The Original Wailers’ new EP Miracle. Their live performances will include songs from this EP as well as classics of the past including songs from Legend. Miracle is reminiscent to the words, sound and power of the original three: Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer. The album was done live in real time, with no drum machines, to keep the spirit of the music original and alive. As Al has stated, “When we got together in 1974 at the National Arena in Jamaica, it made an impact on my life musically to date and being part of those three original Wailers left me the standard of their musical genius.” The Ridgefield Playhouse 80 East Ridge, Ridgefield, NY 203-438-5795 www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org The Capitol Theatre 149 Westchester Ave, Port Chester, NY 914-937-4126 www.thecapitoltheatre.com Irish food specialties steaks chops seafood steamers E. Tickets are available now at the Paramount box office. Amanda Ayala is an 18 year old rock singer/songwriter†from New York, who was recently featured on NBC’s Emmy-Award winning show The Voice. Her first performance on the show was a rendition of “Mississippi Queen” by Mountain. Three out of the four judges on the show pressed their buttons and turned their chairs for Amanda. Adam Levine, Pharrell Williams, and Blake Shelton competed with one another to get Amanda on their team. Eventually Amanda chose Team Adam. Throughout the process of being on The Voice, Amanda was able to work with professionals and legends such as John Fogerty. She was mentored by a team of experts and learned the steps necessary to make it in the music business. Her singles “Mississippi Queen” and “Edge of Seventeen” debuted on the Top 100 iTunes Rock Chart, which is a great accomplishment. As her journey on The Voice ended, Amanda is continuing to perform and work on original music to share with the world. She has sold out venues such as The Winery at St. George, the notable Daryl’s House and The Bitter End. She has also performed at the main stage at Downtown Disney, the Met Life Stadium State Fair with fellow cast mates and recently The Hudson Room in Peekskill. She was honored to open this year’s Pleasantville Music Festival on the Pamnation Stage sponsored by The Capitol Theater. Amanda was featured in the same line-up that included Grammy Award winner KT Tunstall, The Smithereens and Guster. Amanda Ayala has recently opened for the legendary rock group Blackfoot at The Chance in Poughkeepsie. Amanda was also featured as a special guest at the Ridgefield Playhouse with Voice finalist Joshua Davis from Team Adam. Amanda will be the supporting act for the pop icon Taylor Dayne and girl group Expose in Tuckahoe Music Fes- tival. On October 28th, Amanda will take the stage as the opening act for pop idol David Cassidy from The Partridge Family at the Paramount Theater. Amanda is a skilled performer and has been known to pack venues with a large fan base. Amanda’s EP is scheduled to be released in the early fall and her new single “HER” was released on September 24th. She is looking forward to sharing her original music with the universe! She returns to The Ridgefield Playhouse in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the acclaimed album! Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer Songwriter Series presents this special night with Dar Williams on Thursday, October 6th at 8 pm. Dar will also perform a few fan favorites. One of the most lauded singer-songwriters of her generation, Dar Williams has been captivating audiences with her sheer elegance and honesty in her folk-pop songwriting since the early ’90s. With dedicated fans selling out her shows all across the country (and world) and her inimitable songs hitting the charts with the release of each new album, Dar’s continued success is undeniable as both a recording artist and performer. Mortal City was written in the late ‘90s when shopping malls were popping up everywhere, the Internet was just being born and digital recording was a new-fangled thing in the music industry, Mortal City encompasses feelings so many were experiencing at the time: a desire to stay grounded and connected to one’s roots while exploring the growth and opportunities of our digital self, a fear of the loss of artistic innocence and integrity, a drive toward preserving physical communities in the hearts of our cities. Though the decade has changed, these feelings continue to exist and resonate today. Dar has remained unwavering in her socio-political and environmental beliefs, and her captivating storylines have remained relevant. Her poignant lyrical commentary and beautiful musical arrangements have entranced the music world for more than two decades. The night begins with a special reading by Connecticut poet Michael Cervas. Dar Williams is a featured artist of media sponsor 90.7fm WFUV. A few thoughts from Dar on her upcoming tour dates… “When The Honesty Room came out in 1994, I left my three part time jobs for one touring life, writing songs on notepads and napkins as I went. I have clear memories of places where I wrote lyrics. My housemate Sarah Davis had said, ‘I think you should look at this story about an ice storm in Philadelphia. The whole city basically shut down, voluntarily, to help the hospitals keep running.’ So I wrote half of the song ‘Mortal City’ in Lisa Wittner’s bathtub in Boulder. I wrote a verse of ‘As Cool As I Am’ looking out my friend Jay’s window in San Francisco. And then I tried it out on a group of cool woman at the Kumbwa Cafe in Santa Cruz. I started’ The Ocean’ in an undisclosed Washington city, surrounded by aspiring heroin addicts, while February began on the drive home from a friendly coffeehouse in eastern Massachusetts. I wrote ‘Iowa’…well, it’s pretty obvious where I wrote that. Gideon Freudmann wandered into the blanket room and played the now familiar part in February as well as the trippy solo (as only Gideon could do), on the song about college potheads. Steve brought players into New York City who were as generous of spirit as they were wildly talented. He introduced me to Steve Gaboury, Larry Campbell, Zev Katz, Billy Ward, Marc Schulman and his good friend, the late, great Jeff Golub. He also fired me on back-up vocals on The Christians and Pagans and asked Lucy Kaplansky to sing them instead! He got Eileen Ivers to play the tempestuous part at the end of The Ocean and helped me invite John Prine to sing on it. I remember the first time I was on Mountain Stage in West Virginia, John poked his head into my dressing room and said, “I’ll sing on your song.” A second album can be a daunting experience, but thanks to my managers Charlie and Carole, Razor and Tie, Steve Miller and Joan, it all felt like a magic carpet ride, and I can’t thank everyone enough (I might have been too tired to thank them at the time). And, given the title of the record, I also want to mention what I’ve seen since I released Mortal City. In the nineties, most towns and cities were still reeling from the decline of manufacturing and the rise of shopping malls. I was working with coffeehouse volunteers, local radio stations, and promoters who were trying very hard, with limited resources, to bring music, poetry and life back into their downtowns. Thanks to people like them, not only have many places reclaimed their former glory, they’ve improved on their histories, embracing their brick-walled, tree-lined Main Streets as they’ve welcomed more worldliness and diversity in the present. In 1996 I said, “We are not lost in the mortal city” as a statement of faith, and now, twenty years later, I say it as a statement of fact. Thank you for opening up your towns and cities to me over the last twenty years. We’re very excited to be presenting the full album on tour this fall. Tickets are available at The Chance box office. The Dillinger Escape Plan’s creative energy and unwavering artistic commitment has reverberated through underground subculture and in tastemaker circles alike for over a decade. One of Us is the Killer is the band’s defining work, conjuring the mindboggling chemical combinations found within their earliest missives of mathematical bombast while pushing forward into dense, atmospheric radicalism. The press reaction was swift and unanimous. Big Cheese called it “a masterpiece in the art of heavy rock music” and Terrorizer emphasized the “greatness” of The Dillinger Escape Plan (both 5/5 reviews). Critics declared the band “leaders in a genre of precisely one” (Metal Hammer, 9/10); “enduringly peerless” (Rock Sound); “firing on cylinders, just as urgent as ever” (AP); “operating at the peak of their powers” (Kerrang!); “[every album] a carefully calculated masterpiece” (Metal Injection). Pitchfork offered an exclusive stream of OOUITK during release week. The shock and awe of the band’s performance at Revolver’s Golden Gods Awards solidified the reputation TDEP maintains as perhaps the most formidable heavy music band on the planet. Kerrang! awarded the band’s most recent sold-out show in London a KKKKK review. Metallica invited The Dillinger Escape Plan to play at their Orion Music festival. They are veterans of Coachella, Bonnaroo, Soundwave, Reading, et al. One of Us is the Killer (produced by Steve Evetts) was the second album issued through the band’s own imprint, Party Smasher Inc., this time in partnership with Sumerian Records (Animals As Leaders, ÜÜÜ) and BMG worldwide, including licensing deals with Grind House (Helmet, Funeral For A Friend) in Japan and Remote Control (Radiohead, Vampire Weekend) in Australia. Dillinger’s mind-bending meld of metal, rock, experimental ambience and melody first reared its head with a 6-track EP on hardcore indie Now Or Never Records, quickly followed by Under the Running Board EP on Relapse. The band earned a reputation as a fearless act on the live stage, committing their minds, bodies and spirits to the exhibition and visceral release of performance and often brutalizing stages, gear and themselves along the way. Calculating Infinity became the gold standard for the emerging “math-core”/”math-metal” movement, earning a place in author Martin Popoff’s “Top 500 Heavy Metal Albums of All Time.” Kerrang! included it in the “100 Best Rock Albums of All Time” and later presented the band with their Spirit of Independence Award. Mike Patton invited The Dillinger Escape Plan on tour with Mr. Bungle, which eventually resulted in the collaborative EP on Epitaph, Irony is a Dead Scene. The band’s second fulllength album, Miss Machine, blew the doors open, cementing TDEP’s legacy around the world. The album’s songs began the creative partnership between co-founder/songwriter Ben Weinman and singer Greg Puciato, both of them joined on the road for many months preceding the record by longtime bassist Liam Wilson. Intense physical performer Weinman was named one of Spin’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, AP’s Top 10 Guitar Slingers and Guitar World’s Top 25 Cult Guitarists. Puciato, whose similarly uncompromising presence and versatile vocal ability knows few boundaries, was #1 on Metal Sucks’ Top 25 Modern Metal Frontmen and included in Revolver’s Greatest Metal Frontmen of All Time. Ire Works precipitated The Dillinger Escape Plan’s national TV debut on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, as well as multiple international tours. At Soundwave, Nine Inch Nails invited them on-stage to perform “Wish.” The band’s collaborative nature persists, with members of Dillinger forming “supergroup” projects like Giraffe Tongue Orchestra and Killer Be Killed, with musicians from bands like Jane’s Addiction, Deftones, Mastodon, Sepultura, The Mars Volta, Queens of the Stone Age and many more, both on-stage and off. Weinman is a film composer, sought after remixer and co-writer/performer for artists as diverse as Kimbra and Wyclef. He’s spoken to students at Loyola University and was featured on the cover of Guitar World. Puciato’s band The Black Queen features producer Josh Eustis, touring guitarist of Nine Inch Nails. He’s guested with Deftones, Brazilian EDM act Mixhell and metal merchants Soulfly. Option Paralysis arrived through Party Smasher Inc. not long before Revolver gave them an award for “Best Underground Band” and VH1’s Metal Evolution declared them “The World’s Most Dangerous Band.” In Spin’s review, they noted the band “have been the metal standard-bearers of dizzying, time signature torture,” combined with their ventures into “NIN-damaged, alt-rock superhero fantasies” and “Lollapalooza-era treat[s],” highlighting Puciato’s ability to maneuver from “sensitive-to-seething-to-soaring... to the harrowing edge.” One of Us is the Killer showcases Weinman, Puciato, Wilson (whose skills saw him featured on the cover of Bass Player) and drummer Billy Rymer (a highly-regarded player and teacher who once faced off against Mike Portnoy in a friendly “drum fight”) in top form, emphasizing the band’s fierce independence, staunch individualism and loyalty to a artistic unique vision that has long followed them onstage and off. If you haven’t been following the story, 33 years after splitting, Misfits founding member’s vocalist Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only put aside their differences to reunite for just two concerts, Riotfest Denver and Riotfest Chicago. Of course longtime legacy Misfits guitarist (and Jerry’s younger brother) Doyle was back in the fold and the band added a pair of new additions, former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and ex-Murder Dolls guitarist Acey Slade. In the years since original vocalist Glenn Danzig parted ways with Jerry and Doyle, the legacy of the original band has continued to grow. The Misfits have been covered by everyone from Metallica, Guns N Roses and Blondie to My Morning Jacket, My Chemical Romance and Green Day. I truly feel that the Misfits have become the biggest “cult” band in the history of rock and roll. GLENN DANZIG AND JERRY ONLY Now many bands played the three day Riot Fest in Chicago but far and away, the main draw was this historic reunion. From the opening notes of “Death Comes Ripping” to the surprise encore of “Attitude,” the band was relentless and the massive audience hung on every word. The concert was incredible, the new five piece version of the original Misfits tore through a raucous 26 song set which included predicted numbers like “20 Eyes” and “Last Caress” as well as a few surprises like ”Devilock”, “Bullet,” and even the very first Glenn Danzig solo track, “Who Killed Marilyn.” While the Misfits in the ‘80s were an uncontrollable assault of pure energy, they really couldn’t play their instruments very well. The 2016 original Misfits, while not the fireballs they were in their 20s, are still quite energetic but now come with many more years of musical experience under their studded belts. As a result they can play their songs much truer to their original recordings. Having a second guitarist and adding one of the best drummers in the world only fattens their sound and heights their musicality. Fest in Chicago and I was pleasantly surprised. Some of his new material while not exactly metal, was still hard edged enough from most. Surprisingly Dee even played covers of Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like A Hole” as well as a pair of Twisted Sister classics, “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock”. I’ll be looking forward to his solo album for sure. No offense to James Kottak, but this is a huge improvement and a massive shot in the arm for the Scorpions. Mikkey Dee spent a few years playing for King Diamond before hitting the skins for Motörhead for the last quarter of a century. He is a hard hitting drummer who really makes an excellent addition to the band. Mikkey Dee had been tapped to play some anniversary shows this year and next year for Thin Lizzy. Now that Mikkey has joined the Scorpions, Judas Priest drummer Scott Travis will join the touring version of Thin Lizzy. JERRY ONLY AND DOYLE BEN OF DILLENGER ESCAPE PLAN With a stage show that included massive Halloween pumpkins, video screens and more, seeing Danzig, Jerry and Doyle on stage together was absolutely magical. Doyle stomped the stage and pounded his guitar, Jerry Only bounced back and forth all over the stage, hammering his bass and adding backing vocals and well, Glenn Danzig was Danzig. Sure, his voice may not be as strong as it once was, but he can still command the stage like no one else. Seeing Jerry and Danzig on stage together and smiling was just surreal, I’m not afraid to admit that tears welled up in my eyes during “Hybrid Moments.” Lots of rumors have been floating around since the Chicago show, particularly concerning the Misfits playing New York, LA and possibly Europe. More rumors include the band actually recording a new album and touring in 2017, for the band’s proper 40th anniversary. You’ll read about it here if any of this comes to fruition. I was also able to catch Dillinger Escape Plan at Riot Fest and their set was completely spellbinding. DEP have announced a new album as well as their breakup! They are releasing a new LP Dissociation on October 14 via Party Smasher Inc’s imprint which is distributed via Cooking Vinyl America. Fans can check out their first single off the record titled “Limerent Death” online or on Sirius XM Liquid Metal, where it’s in heavy rotation. DEP guitarist Ben Weinman recently said that they are more popular and more credible than ever but felt that 2017 was a good time to go out as it’s the band’s 20th anniversary and they don’t want to be doing this when they are 60. You can catch Dillinger Escape Plan live at the Chance in Poughkeepsie on October 14th. LIAM AND GREG OF DEP DEE SNIDER Just as Twisted Sister is winding down, TS vocalist Dee Snider is gearing up for a new solo career. Dee has a new solo album coming out titled We Are the Ones, which is due on October 28th via Red River Records. I caught Dee play a solo set with his new band at Riot Congratulations are in order to former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee who has joined German hard rock legends the Scorpions. Dee replaces longtime Scorpions drummer James Kottak who has been receiving treatment for alcohol abuse in a rehabilitation facility. Kottak’s troubles first began in 2014 after he insulted Islam while the Scorpions were on tour in the Middle East. Kottak spent a month in a Dubai jail. MIKKY DEE More shows coming up than ever before, hell, the Chance in Poughkeepsie has never been more metal! Thanks to the best club in the Hudson Valley for booking more metal acts than ever before. Look at this lineup of incredible acts playing Poughkeepsie. On October 13th, Trivium, Sabaton and Huntress are at the Chance, while the next night, and as mentioned October 14th sees Dillinger Escape Plan in Poughkeepsie. On October 20th, UK traditional metallers Grim Reaper are at the Chance and on October 28th you can see New England’s hardcore metal crossover kings Hatebreed. On November 19th, New Wave of British Heavy Metal pioneers Diamond Head are making their Poughkeepsie debut and last but certainly not least, the mighty Gods of Grind Carcass are at the Chance on November 19th. After that you can look forward to the Trinity Tour on November 23rd. The Trinity tour features former Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate, former Iron Maiden vocalist Blaze Bayley and former Judas Priest vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens performing songs separately and together. They will be at the Chance in Poughkeepsie on November 23rd and BB Kings in NYC on November 27th. That’s all for now. metal fans — until next time, stay heavy!!! MORE SUGAR 7B JOAN JETT ROCKS FUNDRAISER AT THE CAPITOL THEATRE Joan Jett and the Blackhearts rocks a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of FSW at The Capitol Theatre on November 5th. Tickets are available at The Capitol Theatre box office. Joan Jett is an originator, an innovator, and a visionary. As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, with whom she has become a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, she’s had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation”, “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll”, “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” She sits at the head of her own independent label, Blackheart Records. Jett has acted in movies and television, including 1987’s Light Of Day, and in a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, The Rocky Horror Show. She has appeared on such acclaimed television shows as Oprah (the last season) and Law and Order. As a producer, she has overseen albums by Bikini Kill, Circus Lupus, as well as the Germs’ LA punk masterpiece, GI. Her music has become a permanent force in mainstream culture. A version of “I Hate Myself for Loving You” has been NBC’s Sunday Night Football, performed this past season by Carrie Underwood, and her music is heard in countless films and TV shows including Easy - A, Kick Ass, The Runaways, Shrek, Baby Mama, and many more. Since co-founding the Runaways, the pioneering all-girl punk quintet, at age 15, Jett’s determination and drive have kept her in the public eye. Jett was able to see her story told in The Runaways, the film based on (lead singer of The Runaways) Cherie Currie’s book Neon Angel starring Kristen Stewart as Jett, and her fellow A-lister Dakota Fanning as Currie. Jett was close to the project: She served as an executive producer. Jett and the Blackhearts released their latest record, Unvarnished, last year and continue touring the globe to throngs of adoring fans. Joan Jett has spent her lifetime breaking barriers and challenging expectations — this is, after all, a woman who is both a spokesperson for PETA and a devoted supporter of the US Military. She’s fought hard for all of her historic accomplishments, yet she remains humble and appreciative. “I’ve had a blessed career,” she says. “I consider myself so lucky to have been able to do things my own way.” The event’s beneficiary, Big Brothers Big Sisters, is a youth mentoring organization. By matching adult volunteers, “Bigs,” with children, “Littles,” facing adversity, they are able to accomplish their mission of “helping children reach and realize their potential.” Big Brothers Big Sisters of FSW provides at-risk children with strong, positive and enduring one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Show starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are available at The Capitol Theatre box office. The funky METERS are a group that has been blending sounds of funk, blues, and dance grooves with an overall New Orleans vibe since 1994. Guitarist Brian Stoltz and drummer Russell Batiste Jr. join the founding Meters members, Art Neville and George Porter Jr., to form what we know now as funky METERS. Original funky METERS members have toured with artists like The Rolling Stones, and have played in studio with Dr. John, Paul McCartney, and Robert Palmer. In 2014, the band acquired a new drummer, Terrence Houston, adding to the band’s impressive resume. Playing at festivals and venues like Bonnaroo, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest, Jamcruise, and The Fillmore Auditorium, the group continues to bring their funky show to the both old and new fans. As if a show with funky METERS wasn’t funky enough, The Motet will be joining as coheadliner. Forming in 1988, The Motet is a Denver based American funk band with jazz and afrobeat infusion. Founded by drummer David Watts, the group consists of a wide range of talented artists, who cohesively produce an energetic and engaged show every time. The band is infamous for their Halloween concerts, where they dedicate their show to covering songs of a select band or artist, and take it one step further by dressing the part as well. Most recently they can be recognized for their 2016 album, Totem produced by Lettuce and Eric Kranso (Soulive guitarist), recorded all over the U.S. Totem consists of 12 original tracks written collectively by all band members. Each track brings out the funk roots that The Motet does so well, while blending those roots with fresh sounds to keep their fans wanting more. Don’t miss your chance to hear the raw talent of the funky METERS and The Motet together at The Capitol Theatre on Saturday, October 8. For tickets & more information visit www.paramounthudsonvalley.com or call the box-office at 914-739-0039. What makes To Hell and Black unique are its two lead singers, each one capturing the essence of Bon Scott—the band’s legendary original frontman—or Brian Johnson, and backed by some of the world’s finest musicians. Not your ordinary tribute band, To Hell and Black is a multimedia rock show that recreates classic albums with intense musical detail. Video screen visual imagery adds historical, informative, and entertaining layers to the show. The death of Bon Scott and his replacement by Brian Johnson were pivotal moments in rock history. This show takes the audience through those turbulent events while never losing sight of the fact that at its core, rock and roll is about having a good time. “We are happy to see our Tribute Series extend into the fall with a band like To Hell and Black,” Heitmann said. “This outstanding act really captures one of the most iconic ages of rock and roll.” Paramount Hudson Valley 1008 Brown Street, Peekskill, NY 914-739-0039 www.paramounthudsonvalley.com SAY YOU SAW IT IN MORE SUGAR! NYACK’S HALLOWEEN BASH IS A SEASONAL SPECTACULAR The Nyack Chamber of Commerce will host its 29th annual Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 29 from 5:30 to 7:30pm (rain date Sunday, October 30) in the heart of Nyack. Festivities begin at 3:00 pm with live music on Main Street. The event, organized by the Chamber and sponsored by leading local merchants, is the largest parade of its kind outside New York City, second only in magnitude to the Greenwich Village event — and arguably just as spectacular in terms of color and sheer pageantry. Building on a history of recordbreaking crowds, over 20,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of Main and Broadway in Nyack for this fun-filled, familyfriendly event, featuring marching bands, festooned fire trucks, floats and a host of costumed revelers — with serious cash prizes, totaling over $2,000, going to the most creative among the parade’s participants. Marchers and floats will assemble at 3:30pm in Memorial Park at the corner of Depew and Piermont Streets in downtown Nyack. The parade steps off at 5:30pm. All are welcome to march and to register for prizes. Registration is required to be eligible for prizes. The winner of this year’s Best Float competition will take home a $750 cash prize. Floats winning second and third place will receive $500 and $250 respectively. Prizes for costumes will be awarded in multiple categories, with awards ranging from $25 to $200. Guinness & Oak Beverages and 5 Wits/West Nyack are providing generous support for the parade as sponsors. Parade-goers will experience a variety of special talent, including a number of Rockland County’s top marching bands. Additional parade highlights include Westchester’s Suburbia Roller Derby, Hudson Valley Harley Riders, Rockland Boulders baseball team, an array of classic cars, local fire departments showing off their best equipment — and of course, the scariest and wackiest costumes this side of Manhattan. Nyack’s Main Street and South Broadway will be closed from approximately 2:30pm to 8:00pm for the parade activities. The muchanticipated prize awards ceremony will begin immediately after the parade. Live music and dancing, beginning earlier in the day, will continue in the Main Street parking lot after the awards. Immediately following the parade, Halloween revelers can go to the Nyack Center’s 10th annual “Monster Mash” party featuring live music, dancing, dinner buffet ó and lots of spooky family fun. The party goes from 6:30 to 9:00pm. The Center is located at Depew and South Broadway in Nyack. More information is available at www.nyackcenter.org. Many of Nyack’s restaurants and night-time establishments will also be hosting festive post-parade parties. Details on participating in and viewing the parade are listed on the Nyack Chamber of Commerce’s website: www.nyackchamber.org. To register your float, join as a marcher, or contribute as a sponsor, go to the website or call the Chamber office at 845-353-2221. The tour hits Port Chester on October 22nd. Show starts at 8pm and doors open at 7pm. Tickets are available at The Capitol Theatre box office. BestWeb I n t e r n e t for the best web experience www.bestweb.net FREE Wi-Fi! Dream Theater’s live performance of The Astonishing is a captivating sonic and visual experience. This concept album, conceived by their guitarist John Petrucci, tells an entrancing story through their methodical music and lyrics accompanied by an insane stage performance. The Astonishing’s sound is deepened with the combination of a real orchestra and choir, which was arranged by David Campbell. The songs on this album stand strong alone, but together tell a compelling story. The music for this album was written by band members John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess. While writing, the artists stayed true to their musical roots while also venturing out of their comfort zone to push the boundaries of their music. The Astonishing is an ambitious project for the band, but they believe this is a pivotal album for the evolution of their bands career. The album consists of 34 tracks spanning two and a half hours on a double disc, telling a story about how rebels are fighting for human music creation to be allowed once again by the government in their futuristic setting. The album’s songs have futuristic plot lines that include several characters that will expend the audience’s attention. Show starts at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are available at The Capitol Theatre box office. Coheed and Cambria, a New York-born band that emerged in 1996, conceptualizes their progressive rock music to create their own unique sound. In addition to the story that their music conveys, Claudio Sanchez the vocalist and guitarist, has created more than 20 detailed graphic novels depicting the band’s science fiction origins. Most recently, the band released The Color Before the Sun, an album unlike any album they have ever recorded before. This album is free of the science fiction concepts that were deeply explored in their previous seven albums, and their single “You Got Spirit, Kid” is a refreshing bright pop-punk track. In addition to “You Got Spirit Kid,” their original album consists of nine other tracks. However, the band has made available a deconstructed digital deluxe album that includes Big Beige/4th Street, exclusive demos and soundboard bootlegs. Big Beige/ 4th Street tracks are acoustic tracks that were recorded in both Claudio’s upstate house, nicknamed “Big Beige,” and in his apartment on 4th Street in Brooklyn. The soundboard bootlegs have been pulled from the soundboard on their most recent US tour, and the tracks expose the fresh sound the band is known for, allowing the audience to get a deeper understanding of Coheed and Cambria’s sound. Kicking off Coheed and Cambria’s show at The Capitol Theatre on Friday October 14 will be Saves The Day and Polyphia. Diehard rock fans, this is a show you can’t miss. The musicians wield hefty hooks to spotlight the ugliness, savagery, and insanity that plague human relationships — drug addiction, alcoholism, homelessness, unfaithfulness, revenge, bad parenting, and even incest. Despair, loathing, and alienation permeate the record. Most of the characters bolt their situations as soon as they can. But a small few wallow in the mud. Susan Sed wrote all the lyrics and music. The killing band consists of Susan Sed (vocals, rhythm guitar), Matt Rocchio (bass), and Brendan Saadat (lead guitar). Matt Rocchio produced and Bruce Buchanan mixed the record lending it major label gloss. Each song details a devastating situation. In the title track, “Big Life,” a homeless person rails at a passerby, “You live inside a palace, I have to fight for space. I give the rats their names now. They come and carry me away.” A teenager jumps into her “Car” and jacks the radio up to escape an angry father and a mother who drinks. It gets worse in “Daddy Will Keep You.” “Daddy’s coming round, I can hear the sound. Footsteps on the floor, hide behind the door. Daddy’s very strong, does he know it’s wrong. Try to close my eyes, better not to cry.” “Politician” takes up where Cream left off. “Keep on talkin’, you crazy politician. Keep on walkin’, bullshit is your mission. And the universe is all you really want.” How and why some of these people hook up beats the Hell out of me! In “I Just Don’t Care,” Susan Sed tries to explain. “He’s magical with the lying, He’s got the lines and he’s trying to get inside my head, to see what he can get. His conversation is mangled. His words deceitfully dangle right in front of me, but I won’t believe.” The wordless, singalong chorus to “Dirty Whiskey” belies the pain. “How can you treat me so dishonestly, when I saved your life many times? Hangin’ around with your cool junkie friends. Gettin’ high and going out of your mind.” “You’ll Cry Too” presents revenge as a palatable option. “You say I’ll get over it soon. Nothing lasts too long. And nothing seems to affect the way you feel about things. Are you there at all? You’ll cry too. You don’t know it yet.” Susan Sed lays it on the line in a loud, clear voice. The band hammers it in. Sometimes I lie awake at night and think of similar situations. Then I have to turn the light on. But soon there will be nowhere to hide. Susan Said will rule the modern rock airwaves! (09/23/16) Renowned record producer, engineer, mixer, guitarist, and songwriter Steve Addabbo takes center stage on his first solo LP, Out of Nothing. The man who helped launch the careers of Bleecker Street denizens Suzanne Vega and Shawn Colvin also guided and produced Eric Andersen, Jeff Buckley, and Loudon Wainwright III. The fourteen songs written/co-written by Addabbo showcase his fine, soft, laid-back sensibilities as well as high, reedy voice. Musicians include Steve Addabbo (vocals, guitars, keys, bass), Steve Holley (drums), Tommy Nagy (drums), Wyatt Offit (drums) John Patitucci (bass), Byron Isaacs (upright bass), Larry Campbell (pedal steel), Eric Andersen (Fender Rhodes). These most intriguing vignettes of Americana deal with individuals attempting to come to grips with the vagaries of life. A couple falls in love over dinner and joyously lingers to the restaurant’s closing time in the countrified “Empty Plates, Full Glasses.” A man and woman’s relationship suddenly shifts gears in the ebullient “Cynthia’s Kiss.” An itinerant troubadour spends years searching for his soulmate and musical partner in the wistful “My Emmylou.” In the Indy classic “Left of Center,” written with Suzanne Vega and made famous in the film “Pretty in Pink,” “You can find me left of center off the avenue, in the outskirts and in the fringes...wondering about you.” A “Shot in the Dark” can change everything. Can we keep love safe and sound in this “Oasis” we’ve found? “Life it goes on and on” behind locked doors and in the streets and stores of a small Westchester, Hudson “River town.” Steve Addabbo masters his pieces using a misty, subdued, understated palette of Telecasters, acoustic guitars, piano, drums, and bass — always focused on the vocals and the story they tell. It makes sense as Addabbo not only mixes, produces, and engineers, he also spends a fair amount of time on the road accompanying Eric Andersen, Richard Barone, and others on guitar. If you find yourself yearning for a time when the art of simple, accompanied storytelling reigned supreme in the music world, take a dip in the rarefied waters of Steve Addabbo.
