Fishing Report #7 - Capt. Tony Buffa`s Fishing Charters
Fishing Report #7 05/14/08 Oneida is now at 57 degrees Fahrenheit and warming and the walleye community seems to be responding favorably. In my two recent outings, I have seen more walleyes on bottom in the 25 to 35 feet than earlier in the season. They are definitely beginning to school and are clearly vulnerable to jigs and or blade baits fished right on bottom in a hopping mode. In recent outings the weapons of walleye destruction have been the following seen in this picture. From the left are 3/4 oz. Mad River Sports bucktail jigs with stinger hooks and three popular blade baits (two gold Bass Pro Shops Lazer Blades 1/4 and 1/2 oz. and a firetiger Heddon Sonar size 431. Dress the jigs with a nightcrawler. Use the blades naked! Of course spray with Mustad's walleye pheromone elixir. On Tues. morning, my crew from PA, Larry Loch, Adam Hawk, Jeff Faustner and Rick Fatzinger put the metal to the bottom and jigged up their limit of eyes with the Lazer Blade. I did manage to take one walleye on a bottom bouncer rigged with a floating jig head and another eye on the blade. We left the dock at 9:00 A.M. and had what we needed by noon. Conditions were calm, extremely bright and the water gin clear. This necessitated the "deep paradigm procedure"...look for the deep, and rock the bottom with jigs and blades. 1 Fishing Report #7 05/14/08 A week ago Tues. our effort began in the shallows with success in the 20 to 16 feet range. Mike Jaquay, Chad, Hank and Rich Trudell likewise jigged with success. They boated 13 "eyes" with 11 keepers and a half dozen yellow perch. Dad (Hank) boated the largest at 20 1/4 inches while Rich set the pace at the beginning with three quick eyes. The walleye bite will remain consistent through the remainder of May and most of June. These months as well as Oct. and Nov. are my favorite times for hand to hand contact with ole marble eyes. It is now "Tony Time"! Fishing will be my main commitment until the fall semester begins in Sept. I am available on a daily basis for your fishing pleasure whether it be for Oneida or Lake Ontario. If you are contemplating a charter be sure to contact me ASAP my calendar is filling rapidly and for that I am grateful. I "COD" ago, cap'n tony 2
