The Future? - Save Passamaquoddy Bay
The Future?
Not if you can help it.
Questions That Everyone Needs to Consider Before the Vote:
What will Perry have to give up in exchange for the money being offered?
Will Perry be beholden to the Tribe or to some unknown multi-national corporation?
How will it feel to give up generations our freedom to use the boat ramp, go fishing, have
beach access?
How will it be to live in a place with the constant hum of engines and turbines?
What will it be like to have 24-hour-a-day security lights?
How will it feel to be surrounded by security troops – on land, at sea and in the air?
They say there will be 50-60 jobs at the terminal. Are you a master level engineer?
Will Perry be overwhelmed by a huge influx of people looking for cheap tax rates?
What will happen to your vote when 1000 workers from out of state come, register to vote and
stay here for three years? What are they going to vote in favor of, their paychecks or your best
interest?
How will we tell our grandchildren what it used to be like living in Perry?
LIES.
HALF-TRUTHS.
BROKEN PROMISES.
CAN YOU TRUST QUODDY BAY LLC?
1) Don Smith, lead partner in Quoddy Bay LLC, violated his Smith Cogeneration company’s contractual obligation to make payments to the country of Dominican Republic. When Smith lost in court, he kept appealing — all the way to the World Court —
and still lost! How much will you be willing to spend to collect, if Quoddy Bay fails to pay?
2) Don Smith accused Save Passamaquoddy Bay of being financed by the Canadian Government and businesses. Save Passamaquoddy Bay has received no funds from Government, and under $600 in total from Canadian individuals and businesses. Exactly who is financing Quoddy Bay LLC, and how much have they spent?
3) Don Smith accused Save Passamaquoddy Bay of hiring professionals; however, the exact opposite is true: Save Passamaquoddy Bay has hired no LNG-related professionals, but Quoddy Bay did — Jim Lewis, who made those “safety demonstrations.”
4) Don Smith claims that he’ll restore the Fishery. The Maine Department of Marine Resources has indicated that such a promise
is beyond the realm of credibility.
5) Brian Smith, Quoddy Bay LLC’s project manager, has claimed that they have a study performed by the Maine State Planning
Office that shows lots of financial benefit to the area as a result of the LNG project. The Maine State Planning Office, as reported in the Bangor Daily News, has stated to the press that they did no such study.
7) Quoddy Bay LLC promises all kinds of jobs and economic development for this area, but doesn’t explain any of the downside, such as:
• Restrictions on freedom of movement;
• Restrictions on fishing;
• Greater costs and inconvenience to fishermen;
• Restrictions on beach access;
• Restrictions on boating;
• Inconvenience and delay to ferry services;
• Greater strain on area infrastructure;
• Higher costs for safety and security;
• Higher maintenance costs;
• Fewer tourist dollars;
• Lower property values, lowering ability to obtain mortgages;
• Higher taxes;
• Ugly scenery;
• Less peace of mind.
• A legacy of debt for the next generation.
6) Quoddy Bay LLC claims that LNG vapors don’t explode. Then, what killed all those people in Cleveland in 1943? What killed
those people in Belgium in 2004? What killed those people when an LNG pipe leaked in Algeria in 2004? Why does the Sandia National Laboratories 2004 government report indicate that LNG vapors can explode?
ARE YOU WILLING TO PUT YOUR FUTURE IN THE HANDS OF QUODDY BAY, LLC?
