U.S. Army’s
proven handheld detector

technology
The U.S. Army’s Handheld Standoff Mine Detection System (HSTAMIDS) AN/
PSS-14 is a dual sensor mine detector that combines ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology, highly sensitive metal detector (MD) technology, and
advanced data fusion algorithms in a unique manner, enabling the system to
reliably and consistently detect AP and AT mines. Through numerous comprehensive tests in diverse soil types and environments, HSTAMIDS has demonstrated excellent probability of detection with low false alarm rates. The
multi-sensor data fusion algorithms allow the operator to effectively discriminate between mines and clutter. As the operator advances, the algorithms continuously update the terrain model, enabling the system to automatically adapt to varying soil conditions.
STATUS
Operational field
evaluations are underway in Cambodia in
partnership with The
HALO Trust and Mines
Advisory Group.
Evaluations were completed in Thailand and
Afghanistan and performance assessments
occurred in Thailand,
Namibia and Afghanistan.
Potential mine detections are provided to the operator via audio alert signals. Operational field evaluations are providing groundbreaking results and
revolutionary demining procedures are changing the future of humanitarian
demining.
