Members will also notice more flexible
options when it comes to air travel CURewards now offers non-restricted
airline tickets to help make air travel more
convenient.
Merchandise choices remain available, and you now have the option
to redeem points for merchant gift cards valued at $50 or $100 to over
20 merchants. Plus, cash back is now even easier to redeem! Cash is
always a great option, and gives members the flexibility to use their
money the way they choose.
We are also very excited to make it possible for members to redeem
points for donations to local charities. DCCU has a long history of
supporting the local community and now, we have extended this
option to our CURewards members! Members can redeem points in
increments of $50 to the following local charities:
>> Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
>> CASA for Children
>> Project Grows
>> Smart Beginnings
>> Valley Program for Aging
The funds are sent directly to the charity of choice and you can learn
more about each charity on the CURewards website.
And lastly, the points structure has also been improved so that you can
reach your reward goals even faster! Learn more about these great
enhancements at mydccu.com.

In January of 2014, Thony and Betty were looking for something different and
more personal in a financial institution and decided to try DCCU based on several
recommendations from friends and family. When Thony came into DCCU’s
Reservoir Member Center in Harrisonburg to open a new checking account, he
was immediately impressed. Thony was greeted at the door by a DCCU Member
Advisor, who was able to assist him right away with opening his account. The
Member Advisor took time to listen and found the checking account that was the
best fit for him. “I left DCCU happy that day. I’d never had an experience like that
before,” explained Thony.

Eventually Betty was added to the checking account as a joint member, and
she was also impressed by the service at DCCU – both in person and over the
phone. A few months after joining DCCU, Thony and Betty took notice of DCCU’s
competitive rates. They were able to refinance their vehicle at a lower interest
rate, and consolidate credit cards and personal loans by transferring all of the
balances to a DCCU credit card. “DCCU made the lending process smooth, and
refinancing with DCCU has saved us a lot of money,” said Betty.

“We found just what
we were looking for
with DCCU.”
—Thony & Betty
Thony and Betty turned to DCCU again when they found out they were expecting
their third child and were in need of a larger home. A DCCU Mortgage Advisor
helped them to find a home loan that fit their needs and their budget, and Thony
and Betty closed on their new home two months before their son was born.
It’s been two years since Thony and Betty began their journey at DCCU, and
they have now moved all of their business to the credit union, appreciating the
convenience of having all of their financial dealings in one place. “We know we
can count on DCCU’s great service for whatever we need,” they said. Refinancing
several loans with DCCU has helped Thony and Betty save a significant amount
of money over time, which is important as they provide for a growing family.
Through DCCU, Thony and Betty have found the difference they were seeking,
“We found just what we were looking for with DCCU. I don’t think we could have
found this level of personal service anywhere else. Now we tell all of our friends
looking for a change to consider switching to DCCU.”

Member Matters is a publication of
DuPont Community Credit Union,
serving the central Shenandoah
Valley with 12 locations in
Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton,
Stuarts Draft, Verona, Waynesboro,
and Woodstock.
It’s a great time to be a member of DCCU and
we appreciate your membership. 2015 was
an exciting year for DCCU. We welcomed two
new branches – in July we opened our South
High Street location in Harrisonburg and our
Lexington location opened in November.
Also, we completed the transformation of
our Verona and Stuarts Draft locations, and
installed a full-service ATM in Craigsville. The
credit union is growing and we are excited
about expanding our reach and sharing our
financial services with new communities.
DCCU had another strong year of giving in
2015, starting with over $10,000 raised for our
Corporate Charity campaign, which benefited
CASA for Children and Response, Inc. In
addition, employees raised over $22,000 and
volunteered numerous hours as part of our
annual United Way campaign. Holiday giving
has also become an annual tradition at DCCU
as employees donated holiday gifts to two
worthwhile programs – the Salvation Army
Angel Tree and Home Instead’s “Be a Santa to
a Senior”. I sincerely appreciate how charitable
giving has been embraced by our employees,
and am impressed with their continued
willingness and generosity.
As we look ahead to 2016, I challenge
members to get involved in the credit union.
The Board of Directors election is underway,
for example, and members will receive their
ballot by mail, email, or within Online Banking.
I encourage you to make the most of the credit
union’s democratic structure and vote for the
volunteer board that sets the direction of our
credit union. Please keep in mind the election
period ends February 18. Also, be sure to save
the date for DCCU’s Annual Meeting, which
will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at the
Waynesboro Best Western starting at 5:30pm.
It’s a great opportunity to meet and interact
with DCCU Board members, leadership, and
staff while hearing about what’s going on in the
credit union.
Branch
Updates
Lexington Location
Opens
On Monday, November 16, 2015, DCCU officially opened its Lexington,
Virginia location. Situated on Route 11 just north of I-64 in Lexington, next
to the Ruby Tuesday, the Lexington Member Center marks DCCU’s 12th
location.
The approximately 4,200-square-foot facility features a unique design
and approach to banking that promotes a more personal interaction and
allows DCCU’s Member Advisors to easily address members’ needs in a
more collaborative way. The Lexington location also features a full-service
ATM inside the branch, as well as two drive-up ATMs that allow our
members to conduct account transactions 24/7.
We are excited to be in Lexington! Our team looks forward to serving
members from our new location, and getting involved in the community in
a variety of ways.
We are looking forward to another great year
at DCCU, and we thank you for your continued
support of our financial cooperative.
Stuarts Draft
Renovation Complete
DCCU believes in the importance of education and is proud to
support area students who are committed to continuing their
education by once again awarding $1,000 scholarships to area
students. Applicants will be asked to write a 750-1,000 word
essay based on the following questions:
DCCU recently completed the transformation of its Stuarts Draft location.
This renovation was unique in that the branch was closed and retail
operations were moved to a temporary facility adjacent to the branch, while
the drive-thru remained open. Staff worked from separate locations ensuring
members’ needs were met as efficiently as possible. “We appreciate the
patience of our members during the renovation. We know it wasn’t always
easy, but utilizing the temporary facility allowed us to complete the project
in a shorter timeframe,” says Retail Branch Manager Michelle Wilcher.
How do you think technological innovation has changed the financial industry over the last ten
years? In light of these changes, how can DCCU balance innovation with personal service for
our members?
The application and essay can be completed online at mydccu.com. If
the applicant does not have internet access, they may complete
their entry at their nearest DCCU office. Visit mydccu.com
or call 540.946.3200 for more information.

The staff is excited about the new, open layout of the Stuarts Draft location,
which is similar to the design of other renovated and new DCCU branches
across the Shenandoah Valley. “I am proud to work at a financial institution
that believes our members deserve the best that banking has to offer,”
Wilcher says.
