From the Pastor’s Messy Desk May 17, 2015
This Sunday we celebrate the birthday of the Church with the wonderful feast of Pentecost. In many ways,
this is one of my favorite feasts because it is dedicated to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the most neglected member of the Trinity with very little theology developed about it, unfortunately. If you wish to come to understand the Spirit better, then you need to get very familiar with the Acts of the Apostles. The
Acts is the theology of the Holy Spirit; the story of the actions of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is our source of faith
and strength and the Holy Spirit is the “life force” flowing in us as Christians that empowers us to be able to
live and witness our faith. I firmly believe that all the signs and miracles that the apostles worked are possible now if we are
open to the Holy Spirit working in and through us. Just remember that the many gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the service of the
community, not for our own good. Pray that the Holy Spirit will fill you with the gifts needed for our different parishes.
Congratulations to the High School graduates from Sheldon, and also the eighth grade graduates from St. Patrick School. May
the Holy Spirit guide you in your future where ever life takes you. Memorial Day is Monday, be praying for the deceased of
your family and our parishes. Have a safe holiday and a great week. Oh, keep an eye out for kids on the street now that
school is out. Enjoy the summer!!
