SETTING THE STAGE
The 17th-ranked Army West Point men’s lacrosse team is set to play its second night game of the
season, but the first under the lights at historic Michie Stadium. The Black Knights welcome Colgate
for a 7 p.m. start on Friday night on CBS Sports Network. Army West Point is looking to rebound after
a tough loss at Navy last Saturday and have hopes of earning a bye in the Patriot League Tournament
with a win. The Raiders come to West Point on a three-game winning streak and is also fighting for
a bye with a 5-2 mark in conference. They defeated Holy Cross last Saturday, 14-13, in a back-andforth battle in Worcester, Mass.
#13 ARmy west point falls at navy
Navy scored seven unanswered goals in the second half and prevailed over the 13th-ranked Army
West Point men’s lacrosse team, 10-6, on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial
Stadium. Army West Point was led by Cole Johnson with two goals, while John Glesener was held
to one goal or less for the third time this season. Billy Baird was a bright spot for the Black Knights
with his first career goals coming in the first half. Sam Somers got the start in net and made seven
saves. Navy outshot the Black Knights, 37-29, in the game and the Mids had the advantage in
ground balls at 36-23. The man-up situations was in Navy’s favor and the Mids scored two goals on
three chances, while Army West Point did not get a chance with the extra man.

HEAD COACH JOE ALBERICI // FOLLOW @ARMYLAXCOACH
10TH SEASON AT ARMY
11TH AS COLLEGIATE HEAD COACH
ALFRED UNIVERSITY, 1991
Joe Alberici
enters his 10th
season at the
helm of the
Army lacrosse
program.
Following in
the footsteps
of some of
the
biggest
names in the history of the sport, Alberici
roams the same sideline where Hall of Fame
legends such as Jack Emmer, Ace Adams,
Dick Edell and F. Morris Touchstone, once
tread. A former assistant to Emmer, Alberici
returned to the banks of the Hudson River
after a nine-year stint as an assistant coach
at Duke where he helped the Blue Devils
tighten their grip as one of the nation’s
premier lacrosse programs.
Alberici became the 10th head coach
in Army’s storied 90-year history in 2006,
and was tasked to fill the big shoes left by
his mentor, Emmer, who retired as college
lacrosse’s all-time winningest coach in
2005. Alberici led Army to its first-ever
Patriot League tournament title in 2010,
defeating Navy, 11-8, in the championship
contest. The Black Knights, who compiled
a 6-0 conference record during the regular
season for the first time that spring, went on
to upset No. 2-ranked Syracuse in the first
round of the NCAA tournament. Alberici
helped mold Garrett Thul ‘13 into the
national Rookie of the Year in 2010 as the
attackman set plebe records in goals and
points. Thul joins Jeremy Boltus ‘11 - Army’s
most recent first team All-American - and
reigning Patriot League Offensive Player of
the Year John Glesener as three of Alberici’s
most prized recruits as of late.
When it comes to Alberici producing
successful cadet-athletes both on the field
and in the classroom, the numbers speak for
themselves. In just nine short years at the
Academy, his players have earned a total of
18 All-American certificates. Alberici has also
mentored seven Patriot League major award
winners (Player of the Year, Defensive Player
of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie
of the Year), 54 Patriot League Honor Roll
recipients, four Academic All-Americans,
three Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the
Year and two Senior CLASS Award winners
(Brendan Buckley, 2013; Andrew Maisano,
2010). In addition, nine of his players have
been selected in the Major League Lacrosse
draft.
Alberici and the Black Knights continued
their success in league play, making it to
another Patriot League Tournament as the
second seed following a 6-1 conference
season. A big reason for the overall record of
9-5 was the defensive side of the field as the
Black Knights were the top-ranked defensive
unit in 2014, allowing 7.21 goals per game.
Army faced three ranked teams during 2014
and all three games were decided by one
goal, including games on the road against
No. 2 Loyola and No. 5 Notre Dame. The
Black Knights defeated Navy for the sixthstraight year as well. Alberici was named
Patriot League Coach of the Year, while John
Glesener and Sam Somers were first team
All-Patriot League and voted as All-America
selections. Twelve players were selected to
the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as
well. In addition to the postseason honors,
Pat Hart played in the North/South Game at
the end of the season.
As he has done every season at West
Point, Alberici engineered a Patriot League
Tournament berth for his Black Knights,
who finished the year with an 8-6 mark.
Army faced five nationally ranked teams
and defeated Navy for a fifth-straight
time in 2013. While Thul shattered Army’s
goal-scoring record in his final season, the
Flemington, N.J. native also picked up AllAmerica honors for a third time. Glesener
and fellow senior Brendan Buckley were also
named. With Buckley anchoring, the Black
Knights ranked third in the nation in scoring
defense, yielding 7.79 goals per game, at
year’s end.
Alberici’s emphasis on molding the
true student-athlete was never more
evident than in 2013. Ten players earned
Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
plaudits, while Buckley produced a laundry
list of postseason academic and athletic
awards to include Patriot League Defensive
Player of Year, USILA Academic All-America,
Capital One Overall Academic All-American
of the Year, Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of
the Year and the 2013 Senior CLASS Award.
Thanks to the recent success of Buckley,
Alberici has now mentored four of the
Patriot League’s last five Scholar-Athlete of
the Year winners.
In addition to Buckley’s success, Thul
became the third lacrosse player to win the
prestigious Army Athletic Association Trophy,
awarded annually to the top graduating
male and female athletes. Drafted by the
Hamilton Nationals of the MLL, Thul also
embarked on his rookie NLL season with the
Philadelphia Wings in 2013-14.
Army showed improvement from
a 7-8 showing during a 2012 campaign
that saw the Black Knights face seven
nationally ranked opponents and reach No.
20 themselves. Army’s 6-5 overtime win
at then-No. 15 Bucknell halted the Bison’s
eight-game win streak. While the victory in
Lewisburg, Pa., provided plenty of highlights,
the apex of Army’s season came courtesy of a
9-6 win over rival Navy on national television
to clinch a Patriot League Tournament
berth. Tim Henderson `12 garnered Patriot
League Defensive Player of the Year honors
following his final season. He went on to
help the Long Island Lizards make a run in
the MLL playoffs and joined Thul in earning
All-America honors in 2012. Henderson and
Thul headlined a group of five Black Knights
to capture 2012 All-Patriot League honors.
Following Army’s 2012 Patriot League
Tournament appearance, Alberici served as
the North Team head coach at the annual
USILA/Lax World North-South Senior All-Star
game where he mentored Henderson, Devin
Lynch `12 and Larry LoRusso `12 one last
time.
In 2011, Alberici recorded his 50th
victory at Army and mentored one of the
most prolific feeders in the program’s
storied history. Jeremy Boltus ‘11 finished
second on Army’s all-time points (214) and
assists (124) lists. The team captain became
the second player in Army history to be one
of five national finalists for the Tewaaraton
Award, presented annually to the top
player in college lacrosse, and the first Black
Knight since 2005 to be named first team
All-America. Boltus went on win the Army
Athletic Association Award as his class’
top male athlete and to enjoy a breakout
campaign with the MLL’s Hamilton Nationals.
He led all rookies in scoring, nabbed MLL
Rookie of the Year accolades and now plays
for the Denver Outlaws.
With the tandem of Thul and Boltus
firing on all cylinders, Alberici’s sixth season
at the helm saw the Black Knights defeat
rival Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial
Stadium for the first time since 1997. The
14-9 comeback victory marked a third
straight win over the Mids and fourth victory
for the Class of 2011. Army, nationally ranked
at the time, also clinched a Patriot League
Tournament berth that afternoon and
effectively eliminated Navy from the fourteam playoff for the first time in conference
history. Army went on to finish the season
with a 9-6 overall mark and ranked as high
as No. 7 in the country. The Black Knights
totaled five All-America certificates, three
MLL draftees and produced a second team
Academic All-America honoree.

Alberici was named the 2008 Patriot
League Coach of the Year after leading Army
to a 9-6 record, including a 5-1 conference
mark which was good enough to clinch
the Patriot League regular season title and
top seed for the postseason tournament,
hosted at Michie Stadium. Five Black Knights
garnered All-Patriot League honors, including
senior Adam Fullerton `08, who won his
second-straight conference Goalkeeper of
the Year award on his way to third-team
All-America honors. Ranked as high as No. 8
during the season, Army finished the season
No. 19 in the final USILA National Coaches
Poll on the heels of a scoring defense that
only allowed 7.13 goals per game, to rank
sixth nationally.
In 2007, Alberici guided the Black
Knights through a roller coaster season,
highlighted by a 6-1 start and an upset of No.
2 Syracuse in the Carrier Dome that marked
the first time the Orange had ever lost at
home in February. Ranked as high as No. 8 in
the national polls during the campaign, the
Black Knights would go on to qualify for their
third-straight Patriot League Tournament
to finish the season. His stalwart defense
allowed just four opponents to score over
10 goals en route to a 7.80 goals against
average that ranked 10th in the country.
Alberici also watched four of his players
garner all-conference honors.
In his first season as head coach,
Alberici led the Black Knights to their secondstraight appearance in the Patriot League
Tournament Championship game. Two of
his players - attackman John Walker `06 and
defenseman Matt Luyster `06 - capped their
Army careers with Honorable Mention AllAmerica honors while leading the squad
to its ninth-straight season with at least
eight victories against one of the toughest
schedules in the country.
Alberici’s tenure at Duke coincided
with the Blue Devils’ rise to national
prominence, which culminated in their
magical run to the Division I title contest in
2005, a game in which they fell 9-8 to topranked Johns Hopkins. Ranked second in
the nation behind the Blue Jays for much of
the spring, Duke forged a remarkable 17-3
ledger and established an NCAA record for
victories in a single season. Two of Duke’s
losses were one-goal defeats at the hands of
Johns Hopkins, including an 11-10 doubleovertime loss at JHU’s Homewood Field in
early April.
Alberici’s duties at Duke included
recruiting director, assisting with the daily
administration of the program, serving
as the Blue Devils’ defensive coordinator
and coaching the team’s goalkeepers.
After serving as offensive coordinator and
working with Duke’s man-up offense during
his first eight years, he assumed the roles
of defensive coordinator and coach of the
man-down defense during his final season.
He was promoted to associate head coach in
1999.
During Alberici’s nine years on head
coach Mike Pressler’s staff, the Blue Devils
forged a sparkling 96-47 (.671) record, made
seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament
- including a run of six-straight postseason
trips between 1997 and 2002 - and captured
a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference titles
(2001 and 2002). The Blue Devils reached
the Final Four for the first time in 1997,
Alberici’s initial year in Durham, before
embarking on their remarkable postseason
run in 2005. Under Alberici’s watchful eye,
Duke ranked second in the nation in scoring
defense, surrendering just 6.91 goals per
game.
Alberici spent the 1995 and 1996
seasons at West Point as an assistant coach,
and helped the Black Knights to a 10-5
showing and an NCAA appearance in 1996.
Army won its final five games that season,
including victories over Hofstra, Navy
and Rutgers, to earn the Academy’s 12th
postseason berth.
A 1991 graduate of Alfred University,
Alberici was a two-time lacrosse AllAmerican in 1990 and 1991 and also
garnered Academic All-America accolades as
a senior. A four-year starter at attack, he set
six school scoring records and led the Saxons
to winning seasons in 1989, 1990 and 1991.
A three-time team captain, Alberici led the
entire nation, including all three divisions, in
assists as a junior, garnering 78 helpers in 17
contests for a 4.6 assist per-game average. In
2001, Alberici was inducted into Alfred’s Hall
of Fame.
Following
graduation,
Alberici
remained at his alma mater for two years in
the role of graduate assistant coach, earning
his master’s degree in education in 1993. He
accepted his first head coaching assignment
soon thereafter when he was named to the
top post at SUNY Oneonta.
In 1994, the Dragons forged an 8-6
record and established a single-season school
record for victories, earning Alberici Empire
Lacrosse League Coach of the Year laurels. It
was on the heels of that spectacular season
that Alberici made the move to West Point.
A native of Auburn, N.Y., Alberici was
inducted into the Auburn High School Hall of
Fame in 2008, joining his older brother, John
and father, Gino, as enshrinees.
In his present role as the face of Army’s
storied program, Alberici has assumed
control of a club that remains intertwined
with the rich history of collegiate lacrosse.
In 95 seasons, the Black Knights have
amassed 732 victories, trailing only Johns
Hopkins, Syracuse and Navy in all-time wins
at the Division I level. Army has produced
eight national champions, while 12 men
associated with the program (eight players
and four coaches) have been enshrined in
the National Lacrosse Foundation Hall of
Fame.
Alberici served a term as an assistant
coach for the U.S. National Lacrosse Team
at the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships
in Manchester, England, helping the
Americans to the gold medal. In 2007, he
was also appointed to the United States
Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)
Board of Directors, the sport’s national
governing body.
Currently, Alberici serves on multiple
lacrosse committees around the country.
He is a member of the Tewaarton Award
selection committee, the USILA National
Poll and Assistant Coach of the Year panel.
He also serves on the US Lacrosse National
Team coach selection committee .
Alberici and his wife, Petra, reside at
West Point with their son, Maximus, and
daughter, Isabella.

rebrand, visit GoArmyWestPointRebrand.com.
FAST STARTS
Army West Point has had great success at the starts of both
halves, outscoring its opponents 92-33 in the first and third
quarters. The Black Knights got out to a quick 4-1 lead in
the first quarter against Navy last Saturday and for their
best frame this season as they are outscoring opponents
49-17. The third quarter is the best defensive stanza for
Army West Point, allowing only 16 goals all season to start
the second half.
top attack
The Black Knights have enjoyed an offensive resurgence
in the second half of the seeason. Army West Point has
two of the top three scorers in the league. Cole Johnson
ranks second in the conference in goals per game at 2.67
and is tied with fellow teammate John Glesener in points
per game at 3.58, which is second in the league as well.
Glesener is one of only two players in the conference to
be ranked in the top 10 in both goals and assists per game,
joining Lehigh’s Dan Taylor. Connor Cook, the third member
of the attack is fourth in goals per game at 2.25.
league parity
The Patriot League has been wide open since the start of
the season. Entering Friday night, five of the six teams have
claimed spots in next week’s Patriot League Tournament,
but no one knows where they will fall until after the games
on Friday. There are 16 different combinations for seedings
and the Black Knights can finish anywhere from second to
fifth in the standings.
senior class award
Goalie Sam Somers has been named one of 10 finalists
for the Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award,
a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division
I senior and have notable achievements in four areas
of excellence: community, classroom, character and
competition. The field will be narrowed down to 10 finalists
with the announcement coming during the 2015 Men’s
Lacrosse National Championship in May.
inspiring lacrosse
Connor Cook lost his father the weekend of the Lehigh
game and came back a week later against Bucknell and set
career highs in goals with five and points with seven. He
was named Patriot League Corvias Offensive Player of the
Week and was given the national player of the week from
Lacrosse Magazine. The team is wearing a decal with the
initals D.C. in honor of his father David Cook.
quite the cook
Cook extended his goal-scoring streak to 18 games with
a goal against Navy in the final seconds. It is the fifth
longest active streak in Division I and tied with Albany’s
Lyle Thompson. Cook has 38 goals during the streak and
has posted a career high 27 goals already this year with 10
goals in his last three games.
CONFERENCE SUCCESS
The win over Boston University was Army West Point’s
111th victory as a member of the Patriot League, which is
more than any other school in the history of the Patriot
League. The Black Knights rank eighth in the nation in
conference wins with many of the Ivy League’s schools
dominating the list.
NCAA TEAM RANKINGS
Through the first 12 games of the season, Army West Point
ranks second in the nation in scoring defense at 6.83 goals
per game. Maryland leads the way with an impressive
5.50 per game. Army West Point ranks sixth in the nation
in scoring margin, winning by an average of 5.42 goals per
game.
under the radar
There hasn’t been much said about Cole Johnson this
season, but he is quietly becoming one of the league’s
best point scorers. He is tied with Glesener for second in
the league in points per game at 3.58 and is third in the
conference in goals with 32. Johnson has at least four points
in six of the 12 games this season for the Black Knights. He
posted his eighth multi-goal game of the season against
Boston University on April 4 with a five-point day and was
Army West Point’s lone two-goal scorer last Saturday.
SOmers time
Senior Sam Somers is the anchor of the defense that is
currently ranked No. 2 in the nation after leading the
country in 2014. He is first in the league in goals against
average at 7.12 and in save percentage at .551. Somers has
kept opponents to under 10 goals in nine of the 12 games
this season. He has held opponents under five goals in four

a 5-0 lead after the first 15 minutes. He added another
goal in the second quarter to break his personal best of
three goals set in a game against Furman last season. This
was Johnson’s first weekly honor from the Patriot League
in his career.
on the MLL stage
Army West Point had two players selected in the Major
League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft last month. John Glesener
and Sam Somers were picked 46 players apart in the draft.
Glesener was taken in the first round and fifth overall by
the Boston Cannons after being projected to be selected in
the second round. Somers had to wait a little longer as he
was chosen by the Rochester Rattlers with the 51st pick.
Assistant coach Justin Turri is a member of the Rattlers.
slated second
Army West Point was picked to finish second in the Patriot
League by the coaches and sports information directors.
The Black Knights got 110 points in the poll as well as one
first-place vote. Loyola, the defending league champion,

19 of last year. Thul also made headlines as the top overall
in MLL Supplemental Draft in 2014.

West Point’s best goal scorers with 18 tallies, along with
11 assists for 29 points. He is the Black Knights’ secondleading scorer among returning players for 2015. The 5-5
attackman scored 14 more goals than his rookie campaign
and netted hat tricks against Furman and Notre Dame last
season. He is currently riding a 15-game goal-scoring streak
after one goal against Loyola on March 14.
10th season at army West point
Head coach Joe Alberici returns for his 10th season at
the helm of Army West Point lacrosse. He is back as the
reigning Patriot League William Lawson Coach of the Year
in 2014. He guided the Black Knights to a national ranking
in the final USILA National Poll. It was the fifth time under
Alberici that the Black Knights finished the season in the
national rankings. Alberici earned the postseason honor for
the second time in his career at Army West Point as he was
voted the year’s best coach in 2008. The team’s 7-1 record
in Patriot League play was a program best. He became the
10th coach in Army West Point’s storied history back in
2006.
staff addition
With the departure of long-time assistant coach Mac
Diange to the United States Military Academy Prep School,
head coach Joe Alberici has added former Duke standout
Justin Turri to his coaching staff. Turri began his work this
past summer while playing for the Rochester Rattlers
of Major League Lacrosse. He made it all the way to the
championship game and was named the league’s Most
Improved Player. He helped Duke win a national title in
2010. A four-year starting midfielder at Duke, Turri was a
two-time United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association
(USILA) All-American, finished his career ranked 28th on
Duke’s career points list with 122 (70 goals, 52 assists). The
two-year team captain graduated ranked sixth on Duke’s
NCAA Tournament career points list (29), eighth in career
goals (16) and fourth in career assists (12). The Blue Devils
earned an NCAA Tournament berth every season with Turri
on the field.
scouting the Raiders
Colgate heads down to West Point with a 7-4 overall
record and a 5-2 mark in Patriot League play after narrowly
defeating Holy Cross last Saturday by a 14-13 score. The
Raiders have turned it on recently with three wins a row,
which is the second time this year that they have pushed
a winning streak to three games. Colgate impressed many
with an 11-4 win at Loyola on March 28 and then beat
Lehigh 12-8 before heading to the Crusaders. The Raiders
are averaging more than 10 goals a game, while allowing
9.45 per contest. Their man-up unit is one of the best in the
nation, scoring 57.6 percent of the time.
Matt Clarkson leads the way in points with 34 on the
year with 11 goals and 23 assists. He ranks as one of the top
assist-getters in the league. Rookie Anthony Abbadessa has
been a great addition for the Raiders as he tops the scoring
list with 20 goals and six of them coming man-up. He has
won the last two rookie of the week honors. Ryan Walsh
is in his final season with Colgate and the former Patriot
League Rookie of the Year has 18 goals and 10 assists and is
a big threat on the offensive side.
In the cage, Brandon Burke, the reigning league rookie
of the year, is having a good year with a 6-3 mark and has
missed one game this season. He has an 8.71 goals against
average and a .515 save percentage.
series history
This is the 37th meeting between Colgate and Army West
Point since the first game back in 1923, which was the sixth
season of Army West Point lacrosse. The Black Knights lead
the series 28-8. The Raiders have cut into the series lately
as the two teams have split the last six meetings. Colgate’s
head coach Mike Murphy was an assistant under Joe
Alberici for seven seasons.

AMHERST, Mass. - Army had a 7-3 lead into the half with UMass carrying momentum, but
the 20th-ranked Black Knights outscored the Minutemen 4-0 in the third quarter to pull
away for a 12-7 win on Saturday afternoon at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
Army (1-0) became the fifth team in NCAA Division I lacrosse history to reach win
No. 750 with the victory, joining the likes of Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, Navy and Maryland.
“We talk a lot about honoring the tradition in the locker room and honoring the
great men that have come before us,” head coach Joe Alberici said. “We strive to be the
best we can be, not only for the guys here now, but the guys that have worn the Army
lacrosse uniform. It’s a real honor and a humbling experience to be a part of such a great
program.”
The Black Knights were led by Cole Johnson with a career-high four tallies, all coming in the first half. He had a natural hat trick in the first quarter to give Army an early
lead. John Glesener had four points with two goals and two assists in his first game as a
senior for the Black Knights. Sam Somers wasn’t tested too much during long stretches
and made six saves for the win. Faceoff specialist Alex Daly was dominant, winning 16-of22 draws, including 5-of-6 in the second and fourth quarters.
UMass (0-1) saw Nick Mariano join Johnson and Glesener with four-point games as
he tallied a hat trick and added an assist. Peter Lindley tallied two scores and recorded
an assist for three points. Goalkeeper Zach Oliveri made 12 saves in front of the cage and
kept the game a lot closer with seven stops in the second half.
The Black Knights gained a quick 2-0 advantage thanks to a couple of faceoff wins
from Daly to start the season. Gunnar Miller gave Army the 1-0 lead with a move down
the left side and buried it. Johnson took over from the there in the first with a natural hat
trick. The third one came on a bad UMass turnover and John Glesener spotted his fellow
attackman in the middle of the field and he finished to increase the lead to 4-0.
The run continued with Conor Glancy adding his first collegiate goal on an impressive catch and score. John Glesener found him cutting towards the crease, but fired a pass
high. Glancy went up and got it, came down and scored for the 5-0 advantage with 17
seconds left to concluded a great start for the Black Knights.
Ted Glesener got in on the act with his first tally of his career as well to make it 6-0
in the first few minutes of the second quarter. He was setup by Luke Poulos on the play
and Poulos finished with two points on the day.
UMass got one back to get on the board at 6-1, then Johnson netted his fourth to
regain the six-goal advantage midway through the second quarter. The Minutemen closed
out the half with a pair of goals from Gianni Bianchin and Mariano to cut the lead to 7-3.
UMass started the second half with a man-up opportunity and had the momentum.
Somers made his biggest stop of the game in the first 30 seconds of the third quarter and
then John Glesener got it going with two-straight, including a man-up tally at the 13:24
mark to give Army a 9-3 lead.
Jimbo Moore and Connor Cook then gave the Black Knights their largest lead at 11-3
at the end of the third. For Moore, it was one of the two points on the day.
Massachusetts closed the gap with four of the five goals in the final quarter, but the
Black Knights prevailed by a 12-7 score. Poulos was the lone scorer for Army in the final
15 minutes.
Army led the shot advantage by a 32-17 margin and picked up 22 ground balls to
UMass’ 18. The Black Knights forced the Minutemen into 14 turnovers and had 12.
Game Notes: Army became the fifth program in NCAA Division I to reach the 750-win
milestone ... the game was moved from Garber Field to McGuirk Alumni Stadium after a
snow removal issue ... this was the 24th meeting between UMass and Army all time with
the first meeting coming back in 1978 ... the Black Knights ended the Minutemen’s fivegame winning streak over Army with four coming as season openers ... this was the first
season-opening win since 2010 for the Black Knights ... it was Joe Alberici’s first win over
UMass ... Army is now 73-25 in season openers ... Johnson had a natural hat trick in the
first half and scored all four in the opening 30 minutes ... Glesener is now alone in 11th
place all-time in points with 155 and extended his point-scoring streak to 30 games ... Including last season, Somers has held opponents to single digits in goals 11-straight starts.

was moved inside due to weather. Head Coach Joe Alberici was very appreciative of the
work of the administration and facilities crew at West Point in allowing the contest to be
shifted.
Army (2-0) had 14 different goal scorers as Alberici emptied his bench and every
dressed player saw action on the field. Connor Cook led the way with a career-high
four goals on seven shots, while Cole Johnson kept his offense going with three goals
to give him seven in two games. Jimbo Moore chipped in with three points, while John
Glesener and Andrew Michalowski added a career best three points on two goals and
an assist apiece.
All five goalkeepers got playing time as Sam Somers started the game and made
three saves in just over 36 minutes of action. Paul Newbold appeared in net for 13 minutes and stopped two shots in his collegiate debut. Also making their first appearances
was Matt Isnardi and John Quinn, while Jackson Tamasitis got time in the fourth quarter
and made a nice save.
Sean Jollota was the leader on defense with four caused turnovers and four
ground ball pickups. Jimbo D’Aprile caused a couple of turnovers as well.
The Keydets (0-2) had a quick turnaround from yesterday as they were defeated
by Navy on Sunday afternoon. VMI got goals from Brad Nardella, Mike DeBlasio and
Dan Bull in the loss. All three goals were unassisted. Evan Windisch earned the start and
made nine saves in the first half. He was relieved by Joe Riccadonna, who stopped seven
shots in the final 30 minutes.
Army came out on fire with the first 10 goals of the contest, including all four in
the first 15 minutes. Moore got things started just over a minute into the game with an
assist to Gunnar Miller. Cook followed up with the first of four on the day with Glesener
adding the assist. Johnson and Shea Mullins ended the first quarter with back-to-back
goals with Luke Poulos getting a helper on Johnson’s tally.
The Black Knights kept it up in the second with Poulos, Glesener and Cook each
scoring in the opening 2:26 of the quarter to push the Army lead up to 7-0. Moore got
his second on the day with 8:20 left in the half with a man-up tally, followed by two
more from Johnson and it was 10-0 with 5:13 remaining in the first half.
The Keydets got on the board at the 4:12 mark of the second quarter as Bull ended
the long Army run with an unassisted tally to close out the first half.
The third quarter was all Black Knights with all eight goals coming from an Army
stick to increase the lead to 18-1. Glesener netted his second of the night just 29 seconds into the stanza with Moore assisting. Other highlights from the third came from
Michalowski, who potted two goals, while Cook had a pair and Michael Larrabee and
Conor Glancy added to the scoresheet with scores.
VMI scored two of the first three goals to start the fourth to make it 19-3 with
9:36 left in the game. Army then finished off the game with a run of five-straight. Ehret
Faircloth had a career-high two goals during the stretch and in the game. David Symmes,
Jimmy TenBrink, Ryan Morgan and Avery Littlejohn each had their first collegiate tallies
in the fourth quarter to help Army win the game 24-3.
The Black Knights held a 54-19 edge in shots, while picking up 52 ground balls and
winning 20-of-29 faceoffs. They also forced the Keydets into 29 turnovers. Alex Daly
finished 6-of-10 at the “x” and John Ragno impressed with seven wins in eight chances.

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The 20th-ranked Army lacrosse team scored eight unanswered
goals between the first and second quarters and shut out Jacksonville in the second half
to cruise to a 20-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Milne Field.
Army (3-0) was led by Cole Johnson with a career high five points on four goals

The Black Knights had 11 goal scorers on the afternoon. Avery Littlejohn had three
points on a two goals and three assists. Alex Newsome and Will O’Donnell added multigoal games as well with two each.
“We were a little tentative early, giving up that first goal,” head coach Joe Alberici
said. “We were able to rebound and go on an eight-goal run with six different goal scorers. I thought we played well in the first half and then tightened up in the second half
and shut them out. It was a good win against a team that I think is going to have some
success this year.”
Jacksonville (0-1) opened its fifth season as a lacrosse program and was led by
Chase McIntyre. He had three of the four goals scored, while Fernando Milanes had the
other tally for the Dolphins.
“I want to thank West Point alum and Jacksonville Athletic Director Dr. Donnie
Horner, coach Guy Van Arsdale and the whole Jacksonville Athletic Department for the
first-class treatment of our players and staff,” Alberici added. “The minute the plane
touched down on Friday night we were treated extremely well and were part of a great
event.”
Jacksonville got on the board first, but the lead didn’t last long as Army reeled
off eight-straight tallies to start the game with a commanding 8-1 advantage. Cook and
Johnson had a pair of goals during the run, while Will O’Donnell scored his first of the
season. Gunnar Miller and Glesener were also factors in the early lead with goals and
Glesener added an assist as well.
Newsome stopped a short counter attack from the Dolphins with his second of
the day coming with 7:10 remaining in the second quarter. Johnson assisted on the play
and it was 9-3. Jacksonville closed out the half with McIntyre getting the hat trick to cut
Army’s lead down to five. The Black Knights had their opportunities prior to halftime as
three players hit the post on shots.
The Black Knights dominated the second half by outscoring the Dolphins 11-0.
They had six goals in the third quarter and five in the fourth. Cook reached four goals
with the first two of the third quarter. Jimbo Moore, Al DeStefano and Tim Coll also tallied goals in the big second half to give Army the 20-4 win.
Army outshot Jacksonville, 32-13, and won 14-of-26 faceoffs. The Black Knights
played great clearing defense once again, allowing the Dolphins to clear the ball 11-of17 chances. Both teams were scoreless on man-up opportunities.

p.m. start against the fourth-ranked Orange.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In a game that featured six ties and three lead changes, the five goals
for No. 2/3 Syracuse in the third quarter propelled the Orange past No. 11/15 Army on
Sunday night at the Carrier Dome.
Army (3-1) saw John Glesener tally his first hat trick of the season and finished with
four goals. He tallied 100th career goal in the fourth quarter to become the 10th player
in program history to reach the milestone. Cole Johnson continued his goal-scoring ways
with two more scores to give him 13 on the year. Connor Cook recorded two points on a
goal and an assist.
The defense stepped up with a great game, holding the Orange five goals under
their season average. Sam Somers finished with 10 saves. The defense forced eight turnovers and held it close despite Syracuse winning 21-of-25 faceoffs in the game.
The Orange (3-0) was led by Dylan Donahue with six points on five goals and an assist, while Randy Staats recorded two goals and four assists for six points as well. Faceoff
specialist Ben Williams won all 21 faceoffs for the home team in the win. Bobby Wardwell
earned the victory with 11 saves.
The first quarter saw Syracuse put a lot of pressure on the Army defense in the
first 15 minutes by winning all seven faceoffs. The Black Knights were able to come back
from a pair of one-goal deficits early on with a couple rips from the outside by Glesener
and Avery Littlejohn. With the game tied 2-2 after the Littlejohn goal, Syracuse netted
the final two of the frame to end the first quarter with a 4-2 lead. The fourth goal was
Donahue’s second of the night and came on a behind the back assist from Staats.
Army fired back in the second quarter with goals from Glesener and A.J. Canara.
The first came from Glesener to get the Black Knights to within one at 4-3 with 5:15 left
in the quarter. It was a man-up goal with Jimbo Moore spotting Glesener on the left side
and he let a rocket go from 15 yards out. Canara then tied the game just over a minute
later with a great move down the alley and finish to make it 4-4. Syracuse regained the
lead after winning the ninth of their
The Black Knights came out ready to go in the second half and scored the first two
goals of the third quarter to earn their first lead of the game at the 12:22 mark. Cook
made an unbelievable play by knocking the ball out of the stick of Syracuse during a clear.
He picked up the ground ball and finished the shot to tie the game at 5-5. Glesener then
put home his third of the night to give Army the 6-5 lead.
The Orange got the momentum back from there and scored five of the next six
goals to take a 10-7 lead into the final quarter. Johnson scored his 12th of the season to
get the Black Knights to make it 7-7 with 8:35 left in the frame. Syracuse ended up with
the next three and took the three-goal advantage into the third.
Glesener got the game back to a two-goal advantage with his 100th career tally
coming on a man-up opportunity to slice the Syracuse lead to 10-8. The Orange responded with Donahue scoring his fifth of the night and then Johnson netted his second
on a great transition strike to cut it to 11-9 with 3:47 remaining. Army had a chance to get
to within one, but the Orange came up with a stop and Rice hit the open net as Somers
was out of the cage trying to force a turnover. Syracuse was able to run out the rest of
the clock and took home the 12-9 win.
The Black Knights open their Patriot League slate next Saturday against Lafayette at
12 p.m. at Michie Stadium. For tickets, visit www.goARMYsports.com/tickets, call 1-877TIX-ARMY or stop by the Army Ticket Office located at Gate 3 of Michie Stadium.

WEST POINT, N.Y. - With Army up 6-3 at the start of the third quarter, senior John
Glesener scored a natural hat trick to put the game out of reach as the ninth-ranked
Black Knights shut out Lafayette in the final 30 minutes to cruise to a 14-3 win in their
Patriot League opener at Michie Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Army (4-1, 1-0 PL) got a total of four goals and an assist from Glesener to lead all
scorers with a season high five points. Cole Johnson chipped in with four points, which
tied a career-high, while Connor Cook kept his offensive numbers rising with three points
on two goals and an assist. Army continues to move the ball around this year as eight
different players had tallies in the win.
Sam Somers was tested throughout the first half and made seven of his nine stops
in the opening 30 minutes. He had four in the first quarter and ended up being relieved
by Paul Newbold late in the game and the rookie came in and made one save in the
final frame. Tim Stackpole had a great game for the Black Knights with a goal and three
caused turnovers with the long stick.
Lafayette (1-2, 0-2 PL) saw Jason Sands score two of the three goals, while Mac
Gallagher had the other. Brian Bock added an assist as well. Matt Cortese showed why
he leads the conference in saves per game with 13 in the loss, with seven coming in the
opening quarter.
The Black Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter with four different
goal scorers. Johnson had a goal and an assist during the run and tallied the first goal
of the contest less than two minutes into the game. Tim Coll scored his second of the
season following Johnson’s tally with Will O’Donnell adding the assist.Cook and Glesener
each netted goals to close out the scoring for Army in the first. Lafayette got one back
before the buzzer with Gallagher putting home his second of the year and it was 4-1
after the opening 15 minutes.
The teams traded goals in the second quarter with Johnson tallying his second of
the day with a man-up goal midway through the frame, while Ted Glesener ripped home
his second of the year for the Black Knights. The Leopards hung tough with Army in the
second stanza with two goals of their own and it was 6-3 going into the half.
Glesener responded for the Black Knights and took over the game in the third quarter with a natural hat trick in a two-minute span. All three were unassisted tallies as he
had to create all three shots. The three goals blew the game open and really put it out of
reach at 9-3 with 5:10 left in the third. Glesener then posted the assist on Johnson’s third
of the day to make it 10-3 just 13 seconds after his fourth goal of the game.
Stackpole finished off the 5-0 frame for the Black Knights with his first of the
season with Cook getting the assist for his lone helper of the day and Army went into
final 15 minutes with a comfortable 11-3 lead. Army kept the momentum into the fourth
quarter with three more goals to close out the scoring at 14-3. Alberici was able to
empty his bench a little bit as David Symmes got on the board late in the game with an
assist to Conor Glancy. O’Donnell added his second of the year, while Cook chipped in
with his second of the day in the fourth.
The Black Knights were impressive at the “x” by winning 14-of-20 draws as Alex
Daly won 12 of his 17 matchups at midfield. The clearing game was a struggle for
Lafayette all afternoon as Army forced them into many turnovers. The Leopards had only
16 good clears in 23 attempts, while the Black Knights executed all of their clears for a
perfect 13-of-13.
Army has a quick turnaround before its next game as the Black Knights head to
New Jersey to take on Rutgers at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
Game Notes: Army remained perfect in program history against Lafayette with a 33-0 mark against
the Leopards ... the 11-goal margin of victory for Army is the most against the Leopards since a
14-2 win in 2005 ... the Black Knights have won three games by 10 or more goals this season ...
with Glesener’s five points he is now alone in ninth place all-time in career points with 171 ... he
is 12 points behind the eighth spot, which is held by Glesener’s former teammate Garrett Thul ‘13
and Jeff Bryan ‘04 .. Johnson has at least a hat trick in four of the first five games this season ... the
three goals allowed by Somers ties a season high.

netting two to slice the Army advantage to three goals at 8-5 at the end of three. Sandwiched between two Rutgers goals was Avery Littlejohn’s fifth of the year coming on a
great shot from a sharp angle on a pass from John Glesener.

remaining on his 11th of the season. Army countered with Mullins striking from outside
on a feed from Johnson to put the advantage back up to three goals. Hollingsworth responded with his second of the year as he tumbled to the turf, but the Black Knights held

goal scorers in the game. Sam Somers made 10 stops in the loss for his third consecutive
game with 10 or more saves.
Holy Cross has now taken down two top 10 teams in Army and Loyola. The Greyhounds were eighth in the nation when the Crusaders won 13-12 earlier this season.
Terry McKenna had two goals in the win and he gave his team the lead for good in the
second quarter with the only two tallies of the frame. Michael Ortlieb had 12 saves in the
win and made a few down the stretch to secure the win.
The Black Knights got off to a fast start by scoring three of the first four goals of the
game to lead 3-1 with 5:07 remaining in the first quarter. Conor Glancy broke the ice with
his third of the season coming three minutes into the game and the Crusaders answered
less than two minutes later to even the score at 1-1. Shea Mullins and Connor Cook fired
home back-to-back goals and Army led 3-1. John Glesener had assists on all three goals
for the Black Knights.
However, after that five minute mark of the first quarter, Army did not get on the
board the rest of the half. The Crusaders were able to score once to end the first as Sean
Wilkinson potted his ninth of the year to make it a 3-2 game at the end of one quarter.
Both teams struggled to hang onto the ball during the second frame and neither
team scored in the first 11:30 of the quarter. McKenna put a stop to that with two consecutive goals to give Holy Cross its first lead at 4-3 going into the half. McKenna’s second
tally came with five seconds left before the break. Army had it opportunities in the second, but Ortlieb came up with some big stops throughout the 15 minutes. Ted Glesener
had the best chance with a shot that hit the post during a man-up situation.
The Crusaders brought the momentum with them into the second half with Logan
LeBlond scoring 54 seconds into the third quarter on a feed by Wilkinson and Holy Cross
had its largest lead of the game at 5-3. Army’s scoring drought of over a quarter ended
with 5:40 left in the third with Alex Newsome tallying a man-up goal to cut the lead to
5-4. The Crusaders answered again with 2:24 remaining to make it a two-goal advantage
at 6-4 with Kevin Lux scoring unassisted and Holy Cross took the lead into the final quarter.
The defense for the Crusaders shut down Army for the first eight minutes until a
bad mistake by Ortlieb allowed the Black Knights back to within one with 7:04 remaining.
Holy Cross got called for an infraction at midfield and Ortlieb had come all the way up to
the stripe to try for the ground ball. The ref blew the whistle to give Army the ball and
before Ortlieb could recover, Glesener launched one from 20 yards out to slice the lead to
6-5.
Holy Cross, however, didn’t go away and Marc Buermann tallied an unassisted goal
with 3:17 left in the game, which proved to be the gamewinner. The Black Knights saw
Johnson cut the Crusader lead down to a goal with 30 seconds left, but the Crusaders
won the next faceoff and were able to run out the clock for the win.
Army had a 39-24 advantage in shots, but managed to put 18 on net, while Holy
Cross fired 18 shots on goal. The Black Knights scored the lone man-up goal of the contest, while the Crusaders had 24 ground balls to Army’s 23.
Game Notes: The 7-6 win for the Crusaders is the first-ever victory for Holy Cross in the
25-game history of the series ... second-straight game Army has been held to single-digit
goals and the third time this season ... Glesener moves closer to eighth all-time on the
scoring list with 178 points, which five away from Garrett Thul ‘13 and Jeff Bryan ‘04 ...
Johnson has tallied multiple points in all seven games this year ... Glancy scored his third
goal of the season, which ties him with Ted Glesener for the team lead among rookies
... Somers made 10 or more saves for the third straight game and held his opponent to
single digits in 15 of his last 16 starts ... Lafayette is the only Patriot League team the
Black Knights have never lost to at 32-0.

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Attackman Cole Johnson tallied four goals for the third time this season, but it wasn’t enough as the 13th-ranked Army men’s lacrosse team dropped a 12-10
decision to No. 14 Loyola on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium.
The Black Knights (5-3, 1-2 PL) were led by Johnson, while Alex Newsome posted
three points on two goals and an assist off the bench. Jimbo Moore recorded two goals,
while Dan Grabher had a pair of assists and won 20-of-25 faceoffs. Goalie Sam Somers
stopped six shots with five of his saves coming in the fourth quarter.
The Greyhounds (4-3, 2-1 PL) saw Zach Herreweyers put forth an impressive effort
with five goals, while Nikko Pontrello had four points on a goal and three assists. Grant Limone stepped up in the cage with 18 saves, including seven in the second quarter alone.
The Black Knights got off to a fast start by scoring on the first faceoff of the game.
Grabher won the draw cleanly and charged down the field. He spotted Johnson in front of
the cage the sophomore netted his first of the day. Loyola answered with three-straight
goals and led 3-1 at the 9:28 mark. Herreweyers led the way with back-to-back goals to
start the run.
Army fired back with four of the next five goals to take the lead with 11:57 remaining in the second quarter. Will O’Donnell stopped the Greyhound run with his third of the
year. After Zach Davliakos scored his first career goal for Loyola, the Black Knights potted
three in a row as Newsome scored two, while Johnson added to his total with his second
of the contest. The two teams traded goals to end the half and Army had the 6-5 advantage. Tyler Albrecht and Moore were the goal scorers down the stretch of the second
quarter.
The Black Knights earned its largest lead of the game at 7-5 at the 10:18 mark of the
third quarter with Cook scoring on a nice feed from John Glesener. The Greyhounds responded with four of the next five goals and took a 9-8 lead at the end of the third. Tyler
Albrecht gave the visitors the lead with back-to-back tallies after Johnson put home his
third of the afternoon. Herreweyers and Pontrello also had goals for Loyola in the quarter.
Johnson evened the score for the final time at 9-9 with his fourth of the contest
coming 40 seconds into the final frame. Loyola had just killed off a man-up situation and
Johnson tore through the defense from behind the net and got one past Limone.
The Greyhounds didn’t let the Black Knights back into the game for long as Romar
Dennis tallied a man-up goal to regain the lead at 10-9 and then Herreweyers gave the
visitors the lead for good with his 25th of the season. Moore cut the advantage down to
one at 11-10 at the 6:55 mark, but Herreweyers’ fifth of the game put it out of reach and
Loyola left West Point with a 12-10 win. Army had its chances with 50 shots in the game
to 25 for the Greyhounds.
“I was a little disapointed in the way we didn’t execute in the fourth quarter,” head
coach Joe Alberici said. “We had seven turnovers and a couple failed clears, which is
something we have not done all year, but credit goest to Loyola. I don’t want to take
anything away from them. They played hard and did that all the way through the game.
They were very efficient on the offensive end with Herreweyers’ fiive goals.”
The Black Knights had 32 of their shots make it on cage. They ended up with seven
turnovers in the fourth quarter, which was half of their 14 in the game. Each team had a
man-up goal in the game as well.
Game Notes: This was the third meeting between Loyola and Army and second as Patriot
League foes ... Loyola now leads the series at 2-1 and got its first win at West Point ...
Glesener moves closer to eighth all-time on the scoring list with 179 points, which five
away from Garrett Thul ‘13 and Jeff Bryan ‘04 ... he was held without a goal for the first
time since the final game of 2013 against Johns Hopkins ... his point streak was extended
to 37 games, which ranks seventh among active players ... Army is 2-1 at home this
season, including a win over VMI indoors at the Foley Athletic Center ... the Black Knights
scored on the opening faceoff for the first time since 2013 at Navy ... Grabher won a
career best 20 faceoffs and had a career-high two assists ... Moore tallied his fourth multigoal game of his career.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The 18th-ranked Army men’s lacrosse team had a 6-3 lead at the end
of three quarters and thanks to great defense down the stretch the Black Knights held off
a late charge from Lehigh to earn a 7-5 win in Patriot League action on Saturday at Ulrich
Sports Complex.
Army (6-3, 2-2 PL) got two goals apiece from Cole Johnson and Jimbo Moore, while
John Glesener and Connor Cook tallied two points as each had a goal and an assist. Sam
Somers finished with eight saves and had two huge stops in the final minutes to preserve
the win. Both stops came during a man-up situation. Dan Grabher had his best performance of the season so far with 11 wins at the faceoff “x” in 16 chances.
Lehigh (2-7, 1-3 PL) was led by Kurtis Kaunas with two goals, while Dan Taylor, who
leads the league in points per game was held to one goal by the Army defense. Adam
Sawicki got the start in net and made eight saves with four coming in each half.
“Lehigh has won a couple of championships over the last few years. This is a championship type program and coach and it took everything we had,” head coach Joe Alberici
said. “Just really proud of our effort and it was a great win on the road.”
The Black Knights came out with a purpose and gained a 3-1 lead at the end of the
first quarter. Johnson had two of the three goals in the opening period and Littlejohn
tallied his sixth of the year. Johnson netted his second of the day with a great move from
behind the net and beat Sawicki on a diving shot. Lehigh got its goal from Kaunas, which
tied the game at 1-1 early in the contest.
The second quarter featured one goal, but didn’t lack in excitement as both teams
went up-and-down the field. Army forced multiple turnovers in the second half and only
allowed a few shots. The Black Knights’ lone goal came for Glesener. He made a beautiful
spin move behind the net to get himself open. He then bounced a shot past Sawicki for
the 4-1 advantage going into the half.
Lehigh was able to cut the Army lead down to two goals, twice, in the third quarter,
but the Black Knights entered the final frame with a 6-3 lead. Taylor sliced the Army lead
down to 4-2 early in the third, however, Cook and Glesener hooked up on a great play.
Glesener spotted Cook camped out in the middle of the defense and the attackman
buried it for the 5-2 advantage with 4:27 left in the frame. Lehigh answered less than two
minutes later to make it a two-goal game again at 5-3 with Patrick Corbett finding a way
around Somers.
Back-to-back goals from Moore at the end of the third and the start of the fourth
gave Army its largest lead at 7-3. Both tallies came during man-up situations and the
Black Knights had a commanding lead with 14:11 remaining. Lehigh closed the gap with
two goals in a two-minute span to cut the lead down to 7-5 with just over 10 minutes left.
“The man-down defense had to step up big and of course Sam was terrific for us in
the cage,” Alberici said. “He was great all game long, but particularly in the fourth quarter.”
The Mountain Hawks controlled most of the play in the final minutes and Army was
called for slashing with two minutes left. Lehigh had two excellent chances right in front
of Somers and he made some unbelievable stop s to secure the 7-5 win.
Lehigh outshot the Black Knights by a 35-22 advantage, including a 16-4 margin in
the fourth quarter. Army’s defense came up big on the man up, allowing only one goal in
five chances.
Game Notes: This was the 29th meeting between Lehigh and Army with the Black Knights
now holding a 22-7 record against Mountain Hawks ... it was the 12th in Bethlehem and
Army has a 10-2 lead on Lehigh’s home field ... third time this season Army has held
a team to one or less goals in a half ... Glesener is now riding a 38-game point scoring
streak ... Glesener is now tied with Pete Cramblet ‘70 for eighth all time with 107 goals
in his career ... he is two points behind Garrett Thul ‘13 and Jeff Bryan ‘04 for eighth alltime in career points with 181 ... Alberici evened his career record against the Mountain
Hawks at 6-6 ... Cook has scored a goal in 15 straight games ... third-straight game in the
series decided by two or less goals ... Army halted its longest skid of the season at two
games.

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior attackman Connor Cook recorded a career-high seven points,
including five goals to lead the 17th-ranked Army lacrosse team to a 12-4 win over No.
20 Bucknell in Patriot League action at Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Saturday
afternoon.
Army (7-3, 3-2 PL) spread the ball around all day even with Cook’s five goals. The
Black Knights had seven different goal scorers. Cole Johnson had two goals and two assists for four points, while John Glesener chipped in with a goal and two assists for three
points. Jimbo Moore and Shea Mullins each had a goal and an assist in the win. Sam Somers played incredible in net with 11 saves. He allowed only one goal in the second half. He
finished with four ground balls and a caused turnover as well.
Bucknell (6-4, 3-3 PL) saw four different players with goals and they all came unassisted. Ryan Joseph, Will Sands, David Dickson and Kyle Shanahan tallied goals for the
Bison. Sam Grinberg got the start, but was chased after just 18 minutes of action as he
gave up four goals on five shots. Brac McKee came on in relief and stopped six shots.
The Bison took the early lead with a lengthy possession resulting in a goal from
Sands. Somers was able to stop the first two shots in the opening minutes, but Sands
stuck with it and gave Bucknell the 1-0 lead with his 12th season. Unfortunately for the
Bison that was its lone goal until 8:49 left in the second quarter.
Army reeled off six-straight goals to build a 6-1 advantage. Cook struck twice in
the span of one minute to give the Black Knights their first lead at 2-1. Cook’s first tally
was a behind the back score on a feed from Glesener. He was fed the ball in front of the
cage and his only shot was behind his head and he hit the top corner for the first goal for
Army.
Jimbo Moore scored his third man-up goal in the last two games to give the Black
Knights the 3-1 lead at the 7:19 mark of the second. The goals kept coming as Johnson
and Mullins got into the act to make it 5-1 at the end of the first 15 minutes. Cook earned
the hat trick with 10:40 remaining in the half on another nice feed from Glesener and
Army was up 6-1.
Bucknell stopped the bleeding with two goals towards the end of the second frame
and the teams went into the dressing room with Army leading 6-3. Somers came up big
multiple times and finished with seven saves in the first half, along with three ground
balls and a caused turnover.
The Black Knights kept the momentum into the second half, outscoring the Bison
3-0 in the third quarter. Glesener tallied his lone goal early in the frame and then Avery
Littlejohn followed up with a laser from the outside to make it 8-3 at the 11:31 mark.
Cook tallied a man-up goal with 6:29 left in the third with his fourth on an assist from
Johnson and the Black Knights took a commanding 9-3 lead into in the final quarter.
Johnson and Cook continued to get open and they each buried shots in the first five
minutes and Army had its largest lead at 11-3. Joseph got Bucknell back on the board for
the first time in over 27 minutes of action to cut the Black Knights’ advantage to 11-4.
Alex Newsome finished off the game with a great move down the alley and scored the
final tally as Army recorded the 12-4 win on the road.
The Black Knights outshot the Bison by a 29-27 margin and held a 27-23 advantage
in ground balls. Dan Grabher was solid in the faceoff department with 13 wins on 20
draws. Army’s extra man had two goals on four chances.

and 12-5 in Lewisburg ... the Black Knights have played seven of their 10 games this
season away from Michie Stadium ... three of the next four games are at West Point (not
including the PL Tournament) ... Glesener has now tallied a point in 39-straight games ...

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior attackman John Glesener recorded a career-high nine points as
the 15th-ranked Army lacrosse team cruised to a 17-8 win over Boston University to win
its third straight conference game.
Army (8-3, 4-2 PL) saw Glesener tie his career high with six goals, which was the
most since last year’s six-goal effort in the season finale at Notre Dame. He handed out
three assists, tying a season high. Connor Cook and Cole Johnson each tallied four goals
and an assist for five points. Overall, the Black Knight had six different goal scorers. Sam
Somers got the start in net and made seven saves, while Paul Newbold was tested in the
fourth quarter and made two stops in relief.
The Terriers (6-4, 3-3 PL) came into the game tied with Army for second in the Patriot League. They were led by Ryan Hilburn, who tallied three goals and an assist for four
points. Adam Schaal finished with three points, while Cal Dearth had two helpers. Colin
McDougall earned his second straight start and made 11 saves in the loss.
The faceoff matchup was a story leading into the game with Sam Talkow leading the
league in faceoff percentage and Dan Grabher came through with an exceptional game
with Talkow winning on two draws all day. Grabher finished 15-of-24 in faceoffs, while
Talkow was 2-for-10 and was pulled for portions of the second half.
The teams traded goals in the first few minutes of the game and then the Black
Knights reeled off five straight tallies to open up a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Glesener was on fire with a hat trick in the opening frame, including two snipes from 15
yards out. Johnson and Cook each netted goals in the frame, while Alex Newsome had
a great individual effort and scored off a face off win by Grabher. The Terriers lone goal
came from Jackson Wilson with 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
The Terriers got two goals back to start the second quarter with Pat Myers and
Hilburn each tallying goals at the 10:13 mark it was down to a three goal game at 6-3.
Cook stopped the momentum with his third of the afternoon on a feed from Johnson to
push the advantage to 7-3 in favor of the Black Knights. Schaal scored with 7:15 left in the
second quarter to once again cut it to a three-goal game, but that was the last time the
Terriers found the net until early in the fourth.
Army dominated the rest of the second frame with three straight goals coming from
a different member of the starting attack in Glesener, Cook and Johnson. Cook’s tally
came with one second left and it was an impressive shot as he was being checked and
Army went into the half leading 10-4.
The Black Knights poured it on in the third quarter with six goals coming in the
frame to Boston University’s none. Glesener and Johnson each had two in the stanza,
while Cook and Connor Glancy had a goal apiece. Army took a 16-4 lead into the final
frame and let up a bit to start it.
Boston University scored for the first time in over 23 minutes with Hayden Ruiz
getting a shot past Somers with 13:06 left in the game to start a four-goal run for the Terriers. When it was all said and done, the lead was cut down to 16-8 with 4:14 remaining.
Hilburn had two of the goals, while Greg Farris got on the scoresheet with his fifth of
the year. Andrew Michalowski closed out the scoring with his third of the year and assist
came to Will O’Donnell and the Black Knights came out with the 17-8 win.
Army scored six goals in two of the four quarters and outshot the Terriers by a
49-28 advantage. The Black Knights won the ground ball battle by a 30-25 margin. Both
teams failed on two man up chances and Army forced Boston University into four failed
clears in 15 opportunities.
Game Notes: This was the second meeting all-time between Army and Boston University

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Navy scored seven unanswered goals in the second half and prevailed
over the 13th-ranked Army lacrosse team, 10-6, on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine
Corps Memorial Stadium.
Army was led by Cole Johnson with two goals, while John Glesener was held to one
goal or less for the third time this season. Billy Baird was a bright spot for the Black Knights
with his first career goals coming in the first half. Sam Somers got the start in net and
made seven saves.
The Black Knights have clinched a postseason berth in the Patriot League Tournament, but Army cannot get a bye to the semifinals. Army’s seeding has yet to be decided
and will be determined after the Colgate game next Friday.
Navy got a hat trick from Casey Rees with two of the tallies coming in man-up situations. Patrick Keena and T.J. Hanzsche each had a pair of the goals for the home team.
John Connors made nine saves, including five in the first half.
Army came out on fire in the first quarter and built a 4-1 lead with four different goal
scorers. The three-goal run for the Black Knights started at the 12:17 mark with Johnson
scoring on an unassisted tally. The advantage continued with Newsome getting by his
defender with a nice dodge and then finished low on Connors for the 2-0 lead. Billy Baird
gave Army the 3-0 lead with 7:47 left in the opening quarter with his first collegiate goal.
It came in transition as he was fed the ball by Jimbo D’Aprile inside the box and Baird beat
Connors.
Navy got one back with Voumard stopping the bleeding to make it 3-1 at the 5:03
mark, but Conor Glancy answered on another transition marker to get the advantage back
to three goals at 4-1 at the end of the opening 15 minutes.
The Mids were the only team to score in the second quarter and cut the advantage
down to 4-3 going into the break. Rees tallied both goals with one coming during a manup situation. Army had a few chances, but couldn’t capitalize due to three saves from
Connors and four turnovers.
Navy clamped down on defense in the second half and scored seven-straight goals
en route to the 10-7 win. Army started out well with the first two goals of the final 30
minutes with Glesener getting the scoring started, followed by Johnson’s second of the day
and Army had its largest lead at 6-3 with 2:24 remaining in the third quarter. Glesener was
held to one point on the game and extended his scoring streak to 41 games.
Before the clock hit zero in the third quarter, the Mids scored one of its most important goals of the game with Jack Ray netting his 17th of the year to cut the Black Knights’
lead to 6-4 at the conclusion of three quarters. Not knowing it at the time, the goal
changed the game and gave momentum to Navy.
The Ray goal started a run that featured seven unanswered goals and ultimately put
the game away. Hanzsche and Keena each had two tallies during the stretch, while Rees
recorded his second man-up goal of the game. Connor Cook ended the streak with the
final tally of the game coming with four seconds left. It was his 27th of the season and with
the score he moved his scoring streak to 18 games. However, the clock ran out and the
Mids snapped Army’s six-game winning streak against Navy with the 10-7 win.
Navy outshot Army, 37-29, in the game and the Mids had the advantage in ground
balls at 36-23. The man-up situations was in Navy’s favor and the Mids scored two goals on
three chances, while Army did not get a chance with the extra man
