Kozmetsky MariBen Ramsey • Donna Stockton-Hicks SafePlace is ending sexual and domestic violence through safety, healing, prevention and social change. 24-hour Hotline: 512.267.SAFE (7233) For Deaf/HH/Deaf-Blind community, please use relay/VRS www.SafePlace.org To Our Generous Partners, Your support of SafePlace in 2014 helped to change lives in so many ways. Let’s look at a few of the highlights: • You enabled a staff of more than 100 case managers and counselors to reach 4,980 people with face-to-face services. • You provided counseling and support groups to 822 middle and high school students affected by dating and sexual violence. • 82% of people served in our Survivor Advocacy program (case management) reported that the assistance they received prevented them from becoming homeless. • 98% of adults who lived in our emergency shelter and who completed an exit survey reported leaving for a safe location. Think about those last two points for a moment. No progress can happen – no healing, no learning, no growth – if a person doesn’t have a safe and stable home environment. That is true for anyone, but it’s especially so for survivors of domestic violence, who come to our shelter out of fear for their safety. And so when we help them achieve safety even after they leave us, and prevent them from slipping into homelessness, we’ve really accomplished a great deal. We’ve changed lives. And then there are the 211 students we educated at the George M. Kozmetsky Charter School on our campus. 100% of the kids assessed after at least one semester showed academic progress, in large part because they were able to work with teachers who understand the effects of trauma and how to respond. More lives improved, more hope and healing added to the world. There’s not enough space to thank you sufficiently for all the specific good things your support of SafePlace helped to accomplish. But I hope you’ll take some time to read through this report, which provides a snapshot of the impact we had together. And remember that each one of those numbers reflects real people, real lives, that you helped change for the better. Thank you for your partnership in the work to end violence in families.
