It hardly seems possible! The glimpses of sun and warmth are just tasters of the lovely summer days ahead which is such an enjoyable time at school for all our children. School Development Thank you to all those who have completed our parent questionnaires. Children and staff have also completed these too. Your views are important to us and will help shape our priorities for the future. Shortly after half term we are meeting with all staff and governors to review where we are and plan our developments for the coming year. Our School Development Plan shapes our work for the next 12 months and we will be keeping you informed with details of these priorities later in the term. Our children deserve their schools to be constantly looking to the future and evolving. Standing still is not what we do and it is exciting for us to plan forward how we can continue to improve and develop on the excellent INSET CLOSURES FOR SEPT 2016 - JULY 2017 5th September 2016 25th November 2016 3rd January 2017 18th April 2017 5th June 2017 30th June 2017 practise in both schools. We will be discussing areas of success and areas for development at this term’s Parent Forum / Class Reps meetings at each school and we will also provide feedback on the outcomes of the questionnaires through the monthly newsletters. Olympic Year Is it really 4 years since the amazing London 2012? This year both schools will be getting into the Olympic spirit kicking off with our joint sports day on 1st July, followed by an Olympic focus week during which we will be joined by an Olympic athlete to demonstrate their skills and inspire us all. We will also be taking part in joint Olympic events with all the schools within GLF throughout the week, scoring points towards a joint medals table. More details to follow but we look forward to an exciting celebration of sport in the first week of July! A testing time… Alongside all schools, Key Stage 1 & 2 have been undertaking the new national tests over the last few weeks. These now test the children on their knowledge and understanding of the new curriculum. The raised expectations in this curriculum have been reflected in the tests, but as you may be aware, both schools have been ahead of most others in working towards these raised standards for the last 2 years. Our children have been extremely well prepared for what is now asked of them. They have all worked so hard to achieve their best and that’s all we can ask. As we say to all our children, they are so much more than the outcome of any test which cannot see the many talents and character traits which make them the people they are and of which we are all so proud. We hope they rest and relax over the half term now! We hope you all have a restful and enjoyable half term break too. Sarah Evans Executive Headteacher Hammond School News Page 2 School Uniform The complete range of our smart new uniform is now available through Valentino’s to buy now or in readiness for the new term. The incoming Year 3 will all be expected to be in the new uniform but current children will have over the next academic year to grow out or wear out their current uniform. We are particularly proud of our new PE range. You may view the new uniform by visiting the school office or Valentino’s store in Knaphill. Parent Questionnaires Thank you to all the parents who took the time to complete the online parent questionnaire. Your views are greatly valued and we appreciate your feedback on how we are doing. This feedback provides us with information to input into our priorities for the year ahead. Once the results have been analysed we will be discussing areas of success and development and will provide feedback through the monthly newsletter and parent forum. SATs The week beginning 9th May once again saw Year 6 heavily involved with their end of Key Stage SATs tests. This year was especially testing as changes to the assessment framework meant that experience was new for both staff and children. The children alongside their teachers worked really hard to ensure that they were as prepared as possible for these tests and that the results of these tests reflected the culmination of their learning from four years at Hammond School. Well done to all of year 6 I could tell from your efforts and preparation that you did your very best. Alongside these SATs tests were also taking place in Years 3, 4 and 5 and the results of these tests will be combined with on going teacher assessments to relay progress and attainment levels in the end of year reports to parents due out towards the end of the Summer term. Connor Appleton, Hannah Webb, Ella Sanwalka, Ellie Fleming, Isabelle Payne, Amy Webster, Chloe Connor, Lila Sanwalka and Libby Evans. Transition The important time of transition into a new class or new school is closely approaching and at Hammond we work hard to ensure that this runs as smoothly as possible. It is a very important time for all the children and once again we have organised additional opportunities for Year 2 children to get to know the Year 3 class teachers and for Year 6 children to meet with Secondary school staff and visit their new schools. Later in the term there will also be an opportunity for children in Years 3, 4 and 5 to meet and work with their new teachers and there will be opportunities for teachers to meet and share information with each other. Mrs Hatcher once again put her dogs through an agility display. Mrs Hatcher regularly shows her dogs and has been awarded many rosettes and medals, including Crufts.
