High School Golf Team Grips It & Rips It

THE CCHS
The golf team came back from the Zone tournament and boy o’ boy
did they have fun…! Vanessa Lievers, Colton Leslie, Blaine Hironaka, Zach Willms and Blake Feth made up the team. The season
started with fierce competition for players to earn their spot and conditions were perfect for tryouts. During the 18 hole team tourney
shots were lost and won – tempers were elevated and concentration
reached its peak. When the dust settled and the final putt was
dropped 5 players were left standing. The highlight of the season
was the Zone tournament and boy o’ boy was it a tough one. Over
60 golfers from all over central Alberta met in Red Deer to compete
against each other, Mother Nature, and over 6,000 yards of water,
sand, hills and dark scary forests.
Golf – as we know it – is not an easy sport. Players are working
with millimeters and the ball is only on the clubface for a fraction of
a second - that said - the mental side of golf can drive a player to
places unknown. You can talk to the ball all you want but it won’t
always listen. It took courage for the CCHS team to play as well as
they did placing 6th out of 11 teams. Zach Willms was dynamo and
fired an 82 to place in the top 8 missing a chance to attend Provincials by only a tap in. CCHS players saw their hopes and dreams
dashed only to be lifted when Blake birdied the 16th! Colton got par
after par and Blaine and Vanessa held their own with nice drives and
chipping. The 2015 CCHS Senior Golf Team represented Camrose
in a fantastic way and boy o’ boy the team is looking forward to next
season. Colton, Vanessa & Blaine are graduating so good luck to
you and may your drives go far and straight and your future be
bright – thanks for being excellent ambassadors for CCHS. Mrs.
Ofrim and Mr. Angelstad look forward to seeing Zach and Blake
next season along with new players on the boys and girls teams.

Route Cancellation
In the case of extreme weather/unsafe road conditions, the bus drivers are to communicate their assessment of
the situation to the Principal/designate, and the Principal/designate and the school bus drivers shall reach a
collective decision as to whether all school bus routes serving a school, specific routes, and/or portions of
specific routes will not operate for that day.
Temperature
Bus routes will be cancelled when the air temperature reaches -40 degrees Celsius; Bus routes will be cancelled when the air temperature combined with wind chill reaches -40 degrees Celsius. Air temperature and
wind chill will be determined by accessing www.theweathernetwork.com and viewing the information for the
city/town/village/hamlet in which the school is located. This website displays temperature and wind chill for
each area in the Battle River School Division #31. The information acquired above shall be obtained just prior to the bus route, not the night before.
Fog
When considering whether or not a bus route should be cancelled due to fog, the driver shall make an effort
to contact some parents at various locations on their route to determine the severity of the fog and whether it
is widespread or localized. Drivers have the option to advise parents that they will try to run at a later time
(e.g., 10:00 a.m.) since fog generally lifts as the sun rises. Once a morning route has been cancelled due to
fog, and if conditions are not foggy for the afternoon route, drivers should make the afternoon run to deliver
students home.
Other Weather Issues
When a morning bus route has been cancelled due to any other weather related issue such as a winter storm
or poor road conditions, bus drivers are not expected or required to run their afternoon route. Parents who
have delivered their students to school are expected to pick them up at dismissal.
CCHS School (Parent ) Council
The next CCHS School (Parent) Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, November
24th at 7:00 pm in the school library. Come on out! There will be a parent/guardian & student information session on “Anxiety”. All CCHS stakeholders (parents, guardians, students, community members, etc.) are welcome and encouraged to attend. Contact Amy

Grade 9 Girls win GOLD!
Junior High Teams went to Leduc Oct. 16-17 for a tournament. Girls defeated
Drayton Valley in the final earning first place. All players worked hard and were
all deserving of the gold medal.
MUSIC NOTES
Chorazz! Has been accepted to the Canadian Rocky Mountain Festival once again. The group will be
attending this popular Western Canadian invitational festival in April 2016.
Parents are encouraged to return volunteer forms attached to this sketch. We are always looking for
help with various projects and for parents to help supervise bus trips throughout the year. Please take
advantage of our fund raising projects (grocery cards, bottle deposits, chili supper, FUNDSCRIP, etc) to
help reduce your child's travel costs. If you wish to receive information by email, please provide your
email address for the CCHS Music Parents Association (to Mrs. Alana Lehman or through Mr. Spila)
Travel Deposits are due November 25, 2015. (Gr. 10-12 = $50, gr. 9 = $25). This deposit is non refundable.

Music Parent Association News
Safeway and Superstore grocery cards are now in at Richardsons. When you pick them up tell them
which student you want to support and they will be given a minimum 5 % discount. Safeway is giving
8% for a short promotional period.
Band uniforms ended up costing less than anticipated so those who have already paid will be credited to
their students fundraising account.
Check out the school website to find various band forms for fundscrip, volunteering or whatever may
come in the future.

Battle River School Division – International Student Program
is looking for Host Families!
We are looking for great host families for international students! The Battle River School Division has some fabulous young people studying here in Camrose and area schools from many different countries. We are in need of homes for students. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to share our Canadian culture with someone else and to expose your family to new cultures! You will make lifelong
friends from around the world, teach your children tolerance and patience and have so much fun in the process. Host families are paid a
stipend for opening their homes to these students. Typically, students arrive in September and stay until the end of June although we
also have shorter term placements as well!

CCHS Students Compete at the Skills Alberta Cardboard Boat Challenge
October 27th, 2015
Armed with cardboard, duct tape and a few other odds and ends, CCHS grade 10
Construction students, along with students from across the province, used their skill
and ingenuity to transform these materials into a vessel for the water. Not only does
their "boat" need to be quick, but it must be capable of carrying passengers as well.
Objectives - Design and construct a boat with only the supplied materials in 1½
hours or less. The Boat must float long enough to race one passenger the length of
the pool, carry lots of weight and go fast.
Keegan King, Jesse Kerr, Paul Reed and Dominic Tollefson created an ingenious
pontoon style boat which was both swift and capable of carrying three individuals.
Only problem: it was slippery and tough to stay on. A little redesign and next year
they will be contenders.
They had a great time and represented our school proudly. Well done.
Thank you to Ms. Thiessen for supporting the boys on their water adventure.
CCHS Student Council
For the 2015-2016 school year, CCHS has a great group committed to the Student Council.
We are a small number of students lead by Mrs. MacKenzie and Ms. Barton, with a lot of
plans for this year. I am very please to say what we have done, and what is in motion for the
next few weeks.
The Pillar of Gratitude is an excellent example of what the Student Council stands for. We cut
out coloured paper leaves and distributed them to each classroom during C block the week
prior to the Thanksgiving weekend and had grades 9-12 finish the sentence "I am thankful
for.." or for our French Immersion program: "Je suis reconnaisant pour..". We had an awesome reaction by the school to the activity, and it was great to see the leaves all around the
pillar at the front of CCHS as a reminder of what we are thankful for in our lives. It created a
sense of community around the school and let everyone express themselves.
For Halloween week we invited everyone at CCHS to dress up on Friday, October 30th and
participate in a costume contest that organized for lunch time. The student council was
dressed in full costume, and were happy to see some other students and staff having some fun
with the holiday also!
Since we are meeting every Tuesday at lunch, there is a lot of discussion time for future
events. A program that has just recently been brought to the council's attention has been Park
like a Rockstar. This is an activity that allows all students who independently drive to school
to buy and enter a draw with the chance of winning the best parking spot in the school. The
council has chosen a designated parking spot that is easily viewed by the cameras that with be
the rockstar parking spot. It is an all-year activity and a new winner with be chosen every two
weeks. The tickets to the draw will be sold on certain lunch hours by the council. We encourage all eligible students to participate as it can be a fun competition and a great luxury! This
activity will start in November.
With Remembrance Day coming up, a few members have been chosen to read some poems
on the morning announcements and we are looking to help with the school ceremony and organizing a Pillar of Remembrance, we hope we can shine some light through the students to
commemorate this honourable day.
As the school year continues on, we will keep organizing events that connect the students and
staff to build a better community here at CCHS. We are super grateful to everyone at the
school who has participated and helped out with the Student Council activities.You guys contribute to a better school. Thank you!

Even though high school can be filled with challenge and struggle, it is also an arena of intense energy, vivid creativity
and passionate learning that promotes growth and self-discovery for all our students. CCHS staff is delighted to
acknowledge over 150 grade 9-11 students who received "honors" and achievement awards for "highest standing." A
formal ceremony to celebrate their accomplishments was held on October 29th. Congratulations to all the recipients
who demonstrated so many gifts, talents and sincere commitment to growing through their learning. This is what
