From concerts to plays, there’s something for everyone wanting a taste of the arts
in the Archdiocese. Here’s a round-up of the arts scene at local Catholic venues:
Peace, love and Shakespeare
HOUSTON — St. Agnes Academy is staging a production of
“Romeo and Juliet” in its courtyard, a new campus outdoor theatrical venue, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 5 and 6 and Nov. 11 to 13 and at 6:30
p.m. on Nov. 14.
“Under our almost 50-year-old oak trees, we examine the natural process of falling in love and miscommunication between teenagers and their parents,” said director and theater teacher Felicia
Miller. “This play eloquently touches on issues of discrimination,
judging others and misunderstanding the intentions of our youth.”
The twist on the academy’s production is setting it in the 1970s,
focusing on the characters during a time of “peace, love and rock
and roll.” During the performance, ushers dressed as “hippies” will
offer flowers and floral hair wreaths to audience members. At intermission, attendees can have their face painted while enjoying
jugglers and minstrels.
Tickets are on sale at the Academy beginning Nov. 3. They
are $10 in advance and $12 prior to the show. Admission for the
6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 performance will offer free admission for eighth-grade young women with valid student identification. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact

Blessing of the Organ completes
Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart

HOUSTON — Upon entering the Co-Cathedral of
the Sacred Heart on the evening of Oct. 2, the grand
performance of the newly constructed Opus XIX organ filled the air with the glorious “Hymn Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.” The Organ’s blessing and sung
vespers began the kick-off of the Co-Cathedral’s pipe
organ dedication week.
The Opus XIX Organ blessing and sung vespers
were lead by Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, with Archbishop Emeritus Joseph A. Fiorenza and Retired Auxiliary Bishop Vincent M. Rizzotto.
Co-Cathedral associate music director, organist
and organ committee chair Dr. Crista Miller said that
with the leadership and support of Cardinal DiNardo,
Archbishop Fiorenza, the organ committee and many
others, the Opus XIX organ “opened up endless new
possibilities of worship and service while supporting
the roots of our Catholic faith.”
During the event, Miller (LEFT), along with organ consultant Dr. Robert Bates performed in harmony with the
Co-Cathedral’s choirs and the Archdiocesan choir.
“Now that the Opus XIX organ of the Co-Cathedral
