Deprivation Source: Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2010, CLG.
The Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2010 (IMD 2010) is a measure of deprivation at the small area level - Lower
Super Output Area (LSOA). England is split into 32,482 LSOAs, LSOAs have a minimum population of 1000,
and overall average population of 1500, and were ranked to create the IMD. All of the LSOAs in England are
ranked. The LSOA ranked one by the IMD 2010 is the most deprived and the LSOA ranked 32,482 is the least
deprived. Chiltern district contains 57 LSOAs.
The IMD model is based on seven distinct dimensions of deprivation which are then given a weighting to work
out an overall ranking for deprivation as the table below shows.
