We offer recovery focused courses and workshops which give students the opportunity to gain understanding of mental health challenges and build skills to support the recovery journey. Who can attend? You can enrol on any course if you are: • Over 18 and currently use our Secondary Community Care Mental Health Services. • You are a close family member or supportive friend of someone who uses our Secondary Community Care Mental Health Services. • You care for someone who uses our Secondary Community Care Mental Health Services (NB you can attend with or without the person you care for). • Trust staff/student or Volunteer who work or support Secondary Community Care Mental Health Services. There will be the opportunity to learn from each other, as well as from the course leader. Mindfulness meditation skills will be taught through guided practice and discussion in class. Students will be expected to do some practice at home between classes. The course will run for 8 weeks, 2 hours a week, with a full day of practice towards the end of the course. This module focuses on developing and building on existing skills in managing interpersonal relationships. Participants will have the opportunity to develop skills to help cope more effectively in a range of everyday interactions, including situations in which they might find it difficult to assert themselves. The course will continue to include a weekly mindfulness practice. Homework will be set after each session to aid students in their understanding and practice of the new skills. Topics include causes of anxiety, physical symptoms, the role of our thoughts, how behaviour can affect anxiety, impact of lifestyle issues and the importance of goal setting. There will be opportunities to learn through discussion, practice and written information. There will be a focus on how CBT is useful in the treatment of depression and anxiety, using examples form real-life to demonstrate how it works. This course is an introduction to wire jewellery and no experience is needed. We will be making a different jewellery item each week which may include: Wire earrings, herringbone wraps, wire crochet, how to wire wrap beads and cabochons to make pendants, tree of life gemstone pendant and using a coiling gizmo to make wire beads. This introductory workshop will help you to develop the knowledge and skills to bring your ideas to life. You will get hands on experience of using design packages and learn how to draw out a design and use laser cutters to make your simple design into a product that you can take away and use. MIND: This is a food and mood workshop where you will learn more about how the food you eat… or don’t eat can impact on your mood and get some great easy to follow tips and support. STOMACH: An introduction to healthy eating – this will look at breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and how you can make simple, easy changes to your everyday diet to make it healthier. FAQs Q: I don’t like reading and writing, can I still come? A: Of course! There are courses for everybody and lots of ways to join in such as talking, listening, and sharing experiences. Q: Are the courses free? A: Yes, all the courses are free. Q: How do I enrol? A: If you are a new student please complete the Student Enrolment form towards the end of the prospectus. If you are already a student and would like to book on to a course please contact the college administrator. Q: What support is there for me at the Recovery College? A: We are developing a team of personal tutors to be seen on an appointment basis. They will help you look at your goals and aspirations and how best to achieve them. 14 Q: What happens if I can’t come every time? A: That’s fine! We would appreciate an email/text/ phone call if you can’t make it. If we haven’t heard from you we may contact you to check if you need any extra support. Q: How many courses can I do?
