2 FWADA SPRING GALLERY NIGHT 2016
FORT WORTH ART DEALERS ASSOCIATION
FWADA is a unique arts organization in a unique American place. Few cities of Fort Worth’s size are privileged to command such a wealth of major art museums, and fewer still have such a vital community
spirit. What truly sets Fort Worth apart, however, is the vigorous, longstanding, clearly defined cooperation
between the museums, the university art galleries, the non-profit exhibition spaces, and the art dealers, all
of which are full working members of FWADA. To fulfill its stated mission to stimulate interest in the visual
arts through educational programs, art scholarships, and art competitions, FWADA organizes, funds, and
hosts exhibitions of noteworthy art. It sponsors the Fall Gallery Night for members and friends, as well as
Spring Gallery Night.
All these attainments have created a stable environment that produces a steady stream of top-notch
talent, including major local artists who exhibit their work nationally and internationally. Newcomers are
frequently dazzled by the quality of work being created in every medium and style. Their passion reinvigorates Fort Worth patrons who have become habituated to the riches that surround them, reminding them
anew that the most authentic cultural connection they can make is the one that affords direct communication with the artists who interpret and illuminate the life experience they share through common background
and interests. Although the city is justly recognized for its cosmopolitan worldview, it is the local artists and
their devoted collectors who are the lifeblood of the Fort Worth art market.
The members of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association are pledged to the maintenance of a high standard of ethical conduct and professional integrity, these businesses furnish a model that gallery associations
in other cities might do well to emulate. FWADA is to be commended for its important role as a contributor
to the cultural and esthetic richness of Fort Worth. – Suzanne Deats

American Epics: Thomas Hart Benton and
Hollywood
The first major exhibition in more than twenty-five
years to feature the life and works of the renowned
American painter Thomas Hart Benton (1889–1975),
American Epics explores the previously overlooked
relationship between Benton’s art and movie making. The exhibition brings together nearly 100 works
by Benton, including more than thirty of his paintings and murals, as well as a selection of his drawings, prints, and illustrated books in juxtaposition
with scenes from some of Hollywood’s greatest
films. Free admission.

Vivian Maier
May 21 – August 21, 2016
This summer the Arlington Museum of Art
will feature work from an obscure but posthumously emerging American photographer, Vivian Maier. The subject of the
2013 documentary, Finding Vivian Maier, this artist was an enigma not only in
the photographic art community, but also in relation to the world stage. The
primary focus in her accidentally discovered 150,000 plus negatives and rolls of
undeveloped film, is what she saw on the streets of Chicago where she worked
as a nanny in the North Shore area. Her images represent an incredibly poignant
glimpse into the lives of ordinary people going about the business of daily life.

Solo Exhibition:
Between Dying and Death
“In my work I explore concepts of
human suffering, violence, politics,
control, power and empathy. The sculptures are designed to provide an immersive experience through mechanisms of
framing, magnification, scale, and
exploration. By combining insect’s
biological elements with humans. I create metaphors that compare the worthless treatment of human life to that of a bug’s.” – Bernardo Vallarino (Artist)

Daniel Blagg’s solo exhibition,
Rambler. Art historian and curator, E. Luanne McKinnon, writes
in her essay, Time Suspended,
“Daniel Blagg’s tour de force
paintings – belonging to the rich
milieu of a genre I think of as the
locale – are no less iconic than
other quintessential American locales framed by Edward Hopper, Walker Evans,
Georgia O’Keefe, and William Eggleston…” Blagg’s paintings isolate fading
landmarks through real and imagined urbanscapes, which develop a sense of
nostalgia and familiarity in the viewer. The artist’s most recent series explores
the effect of the night sky on his humble and tenuous subjects.

Caro Thompson Jackson is a native of Fort
Worth who moved to Rockport, Texas, in 1997
and began painting in 2000. She has developed
a style full of color and motion with a touch of
whimsy. Caro concentrates on landscapes in
oil, especially those of West Texas and the
mountains, but is also enjoying working on Fort Worth cityscapes. “I am very
influenced by impressionistic work and can’t keep my brush away from vibrant
color with a simplistic approach to scenes,” says Jackson.
Caro is represented in Rockport by Wind Way Gallery and the Rockport Art
Center, where she was selected as a Merit Artist in 2013. She is a member of the
Rockport Nine, a plein aire group which travels Texas to capture its beauty and
uniqueness. Don’t miss a chance to meet the artist and see her inspiring work.

Occupied Zones/Unoccupied
Spaces features new works
from Kelly Ingleright-Telgenhoff.
Kelly’s oeuvre takes the viewer
on a visual and philosophical
quest. Her detailed, quiet realism offers a narrative through
focus on one beautiful or grotesque object in a simple setting. The addition of nontraditional materials such as wool fibers are blended
or added into paintings to create a unique visual effect of rupture and distortion
or quiet contemplation. She makes the common everyday object transcend its
original meaning to that of contemporary, feminist concerns while superimposing a metaphysical cosmology and Zen philosophical consideration.

Vern Johnson: A Retrospective
About ten years ago, Vern Johnson
began painting full time. For every
show, he found new ways to depict
the beauty of the natural world: prairie
landscapes rendered as horizontal
bands of colors; forests and trees in
impressionist, cubist, and expressionist styles; gestural abstractions; and
before his untimely demise in December, watercolor landscapes on canvas.
Join us in celebrating this artist’s achievements.

Arno Kortschot - Captured
March 19 – April 16, 2016
Arno Kortschot was born in the Netherlands & currently resides in Vancouver, BC.
His work searches for the connection of form & material in relation to the environment, with strong influences of Minimalism & geometric abstraction. Inspired by
the history of geometric abstraction that can be found in both art & architecture
of his native country, he started to make blocks that were meticulously placed or
hung, thereby forcing the audience to take a strategic position to understand his
or her place in relation to the space & to the object. Kortschot uses zinc as his
primary material, combining it with a bright color or lighting the colours with LED
light. The patina created over time, through air & its environment, & especially by
a person’s touch, brings out the unique character of the zinc.
