Slic-tite® Paste Premium Thread Sealent Slic-tite Paste is a premium thread sealant by LA-CO®. This thread sealant contains PTFE for better sealing power and is ideal for sealing water, air, steam, natural gas, LP gas, and refrigerants. • Contains PTFE for greater sealing power • Pressures: 3,000 PSI (204 BAR) for gas; 10,000 PSI (680 BAR) for liquid • Sealing temperature: -50°F to 500°F (-46°C to 260°C) • Can be used on a variety of metals and plastic, eliminating the need for any other thread sealant • Washes off hands and clothes easily; quik and easy cleanup • Safe, non-toxic, non-drying • DO NOT USE ON OXYGEN SERVICE; USE OXYTITE PASTE OR SLIC-TITE PTFE TAPE For Use On: Metal PVC CPVC ABS Approvals/Certifications: USDA approved for use in federally inspected meat and poultry plants UL, CSA, NSF, UPC and FBC™ ORDERING INFORMATION Part No. Size Case 41209 1/4 pt. These threads are intended for the mechanical assembly of the component parts of fittings, cocks, valves, accessories etc. If these assemblies must be pressure tight this will be achieved by compressing two surfaces other than the thread and the use of jointing medium if necessary e.g. gaskets on flanges or ‘O’ rings. Both male and female threads are always parallel. For this application we do not recommend soft setting thread sealents. SEALING PIPE THREADS - Designated “R” to AS 1722 Part 1 (Formerly BSPT) are based on ISO 7/1 where pressure tight joints are made on the mating threads. These threads are intended for pipes suitable for screwing and for cocks, valves and other fittings to be connected to screwed pipes. If necessary an appropriate jointing medium may be used on the threads to ensure pressure tight joints. The male thread “R” is always tapered (1:16 included). The internal thread may be parallel “RP” or tapered (1:16 included) “RC”. Soft setting thread sealants such as LA-CO® Slic-tite® & T-O-T® can only be used in conjunction with “Sealing Pipe Threads” where the male thread must be tapered and made in accordance with AS1722 part 1. How to make a quality pipe joint using LA-CO Thread Sealents • Ensure that the fittings & pipe that you purchase are made to Australian Standards • If you are cutting your own threads ensure that your machine is maintained correctly so that it will cut the male threads with the correct taper in accordance with AS1722 Part 1 • Prior to final assembly, each individual joint should be assembled, without thread sealant, to check the tolerance & “fit” of the joint, and to see how many male threads are exposed. • This will provide a guide as to the type of thread sealant & how much sealant should be used. • A joint with the correct tolerance will typically have about 3-4 threads exposed and be fairly tight. See Figure 3 • If the joint is “loose” and there are only 1-2 threads exposed, or the male threads are not visible, the joint is essentially a “Fastening Pipe Thread” with parallel threads and soft setting thread sealants should only be used in conjunction with sufficient “filling” material, such as hemp or thread tape. See Figure 4. • A joint made with a soft setting thread sealant such as Slic-tite or T-O-T and filler such as hemp or thread tape, will always be able to be easily undone.
