A warm hello from my desk in Austin Texas (still
65 degrees here!). I hope that you are receiving
this while finishing up a strong 2014. My exclusive
concentration on Learjets, Challengers and
Globals allows me to dig deep into those markets
and retrieve the most detailed and up-to-date
information available. Many aviation industry
professionals use me as their source for market
information because they know my focus allows
me to have more accurate pricing info and sales
figures. That being said, if you send me photos
and specs of your Lear 40, I could tell you how
much your plane would go for on the market
within an hour or so.

You can’t say that Lear 40/40XR markets are dead
right now due to inactivity because they only
made 40 Lear 40s and 91 Lear 40XRs. So when I
tell you that four of these birds have sold since my
last report, that isn’t actually a low number (three
in Q3 and one this quarter so far). We’re actually
looking to inventory a Lear 40 before the
beginning of the new year, so I know this market
especially well. The asking prices of Lear 40s right
now (the few that are on the market) average out
to right around $3,000,000. The Lear 40XR fleet
average asking price is just over $3,600,000.

engines, new avionics and a sleek new
Bombardier interior—much like the differences
between the Lear 40 and Lear 70.

With the introduction of the Lear 70, my
prediction is that many small Citation, Lear 31A
and Lear 40 owners are going to call us to see
where their plane fits into the market, and
conversely, what the operating costs are on the
new gorgeous Bombardier light jet.

I got to chat with one of the design technicians
from Bombardier at NBAA in Orlando while sitting
in the new Lear 75 and got the scoop on the latest
70. I was impressed, and I don’t say that lightly.
The new interior design was first class all the way.
I’m very excited to be around these new birds as
deliveries continue through at least the next
(projected) decade. But how will that effect Lear
40/40XR markets? The same question can be
asked about the Challenger 300 with the
introduction of the Challenger 350. Following one
