Hannah’s Injury
November 12, 2007 is a date that Hannah
Anderson will never forget, yet may never
remember. On that date, the 16-year-old from
Leeds, ND, sustained a broken clavicle,
fractured pelvis, and traumatic brain injury
after being broadsided by a pickup while
driving to her grandmother’s house.
After being rushed by ambulance to the Heart
of America Medical Center in Rugby and
transferred to Minot’s Trinity Hospital, doctors
became quite concerned about the trauma she
suffered to her brain. Since North Dakota
doesn’t have a level 1 trauma center, she was

then airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical
Center in Minneapolis, MN. After a four-week
stay that included being placed in a medicallyinduced coma, she was transported yet again to
the Gillette Children’s Specialty Health Care
Center in St. Paul, MN, where she began a
month of rigorous rehabilitation before returning home in late January. Although her longterm memory was unaffected by the accident,
Hannah doesn’t remember the accident itself or
much of what happened.

A Thoughtful Prayer Life
Is the newest Bible Study Resource from
the Women of the ELCA, written by Mary
Button. You’ll explore some of Martin Luther’s and Deitrich Bonhoeffer’s thoughts on
prayer. You’re invited to consider times at
work where you feel particularly prayerful
and reflect on times of trouble that drive you
to prayer. You will create prayer beads as
a tangible reminder of prayer petitions.

Graduation Day - what a joyous celebration this will be.
Hard to believe it is here, but
Hannah is so excited and ready
to be moving forward with her
life. There are many areas of
Hannah's life in which we continue to see improvement - she
has gotten a part time summer
job and she thinks this will
work out well for her. Hannah has been better able to plan
ahead with what needs to be done. Her therapists and teachers
have all been helping her with "how to work on projects" writing down the necessary steps to accomplish the task and
breaking things down into manageable pieces - then seeing the
project through to completion.
Hannah has been better able to know her limits - she knows
when she has to get to bed and get her rest
Hannah was awarded "Student of the Quarter" for the senior
class this last quarter of school.
