Lila Rose becomes ANML
Armed with a distinctive voice and a compassionate understanding of the world around her, Canadian born, California
based singer/songwriter/producer Lila Rose, writes songs
whose sweeping musical vision and aesthetic beauty is
matched only by the depth of her poetry. Her music has
been compared to the merging of sounds of Bjork, Cocteau
Twins, and Nine Inch Nails and has been coined as
"cinematic indie-rock”.
Having song placements in mainstream television series such
as Lucifer, The Royals, Wentworth, VICE, So You Think You
Can Dance, the soundtrack for the trailer for VICELANDS’
World of Sports, and Black Market, among many others, Lila
is beginning to pick up steam internationally.
She is known not only for her unique voice, but also for her cutting edge visuals, and her unusually captivating
live show. The show includes a large cage from which Lila performs, with a scrim along the outside which is used
for 3D mapping, all of which have literally created a one of a kind multi media performance. Never mind Lilas’
fierce and passionate performance, which is memorable in and of itself.
On August first she became ANML. “I wanted a name which was less about ‘me’ and more inclusive for the artists
I create and perform with. This isn’t about ME at the end of the day. This is about an artful expression, which
often times depends upon, and includes many other people. Not only that, but the name is inclusive to everyone
who becomes a listener, a fan, and essentially a part of a greater community (not to be too woo woo about it).
You are ANML, I am ANML, WE are ANML.
ANML’s music is a very distinct voice among others. Her music is a regular on WJKO not just on the air but for
recreational listening as well. Check her website for more.

Nashville, Tennessee
It is no secret that Nashville is soaked with music and great musicians. Many of
the finest guitar pickers and songwriters hail from the region. It is no different
with the newer generations who have followed in those well-trodden footsteps. Below is just a glimpse or the talent in Nashville.
Transformation is Steve
Wood's first EP. Influenced
by psychedelic rock, the music is heavy in synthesizers
and guitar, with echoing vocals and a deep, textured
stereo sound.
Kristoff Waltz is a five-piece
"indie surf" group specializing
in the music of sunshine
and friendship. Founded in
Nashville, TN in 2015, they
have really crafted a great
sound. I love their music and I
am anxious to watch this band
for future developments.
Members include: Alec Koukol,
Hunter "Ear Flaps" Mulkey,
Callie McFee, Logan Rifenberg,
Simon Knudtson.
Here’s their Bandcamp page.
According to his
Bandcamp page,
Caleb Groh
(pronounced GROW)
howls melodic folk
songs about historical
and biblical figures in
fictional contexts, anthropomorphism,
coffee, mythology,
and the love of throws as opposed to the throes of
love.
Sky Temple Blues is a
sonic assault of heavy
riffs and melodic hooks.
While striving to blend
guitar driven music with
a pop sensibility, Sky
Temple Blues pulls influence from multiple decades. The band uses traditional song structures
while also experimenting with progressive structures. Sky Temple Blues's mission is to create
songs suited for lovers of both classic and current rock music.
Damned Rivers is a
young band out of
Nashville TN who create their own blend
of folk and rock, with
heartfelt lyrics
that tell a powerful
story. Ian Mauldin, Kyle Hassenfratz, and Mark
Summarell started making music together in
2014, taking songs Ian had written and bringing
them alive with strong dynamics, and earthy
tones. Now they are set to release their debut EP

Laurel & The Love-In, Laurel
Sorenson is a blues/rock artist living in Nashville, TN. Her music consists of soulful vocals and darkly
defiant lyrics. According to Taylor
Romine of ListenLocalSD.com,
Sorenson is “A new queen of sass
[whose] bluesy vocal brings her
music full force. She is a strongheaded girl who makes you feel
empowered after listening.”
Andrew Strader released his debut EP No Improvement in April
and I have been digging it ever
since. Going by the name Dual
Pine Andrew gives us solid listening. Check it out.
Regatta is a shoegaze, dream
pop band that has a very attractive sound. Their EP Unlimited
Class was released in March.

Artists You Should Know
From the smooth stylings of Sam Cooke to the lyrical beauty of Curtis Mayfield, soul
music is rich in tradition, highlighted by an authenticity that few artists possess today.
Troy, on the other hand, is an exception.
Part crooner, part troubadour and all storyteller, Troy is pure, unequivocal soul, evoking memories with each note he sings. With unbridled emotional power, Troy has an
inherent ability to reveal his pain and draw you into his music. This inimitable talent is
brightly evident on his critically acclaimed debut EP, When the Lights Came, which features the haunting, introspective single, “Rosary.”
Though raised in a musical household, Troy considered other avenues, even accepting
an academic scholarship to college. However, after tragically losing his father, Troy
yearned for a fresh start and transferred to Boston College, where he was overheard
singing at work by local musicians. He joined them for jam sessions and honed his
craft, using music as a way to grieve. In the summer of 2013, Troy relocated to New York to advance his career in music,
eventually joining forces with accomplished producer Dante Lattanzi of Caelum Music Production. Together, Troy and Dante
have continually produced work that has been impressing industry leaders and garnering leagues of enthusiastic new fans.
Dr. Robinson's Fiasco is an Alt Rock Indie Pop band from the
Northern Virginia area. DRF was originally formed in 2012 by
friends Ian Robinson (Vocals, Guitar) and Adam Ashforth (Drums).
The band performed as a duo until 2013 when bassist Robert
Espiritu was added. After the departure of Adam in 2016, DRF
gained Markus Gerhard (Drums). DRF's music features memorable
guitar riffs and catchy vocal hooks fueled by unique and captivating lyrics. They have a tight rhythmic chemistry between members, which creates a relentless groove in their songs. This band
grew on me big time! I liked their sound upon first hearing, but as
I get more familiar with it I am more enthralled. I highly recommend Dr. Robinson’s Fiasco! They are currently in the process of funding their next album. Have a look maybe you’ll
be inspired to help. https://www.gofundme.com/DRFalbum
Stage Republic produces “Pop Music with a little bit of 80s and a lot of
now. Stage Republic, founded in 2013 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands,
has an instantly recognizable sound reminiscent of the 80s superacts
like Duran Duran, U2 and David Bowie combined with the best of Dutch
beats and the trademark voice of frontman Raven. The first album
Firstage is being praised for its variety in styles by reviewers. The album
unites disco, pop, rock, dance and country-folk under one umbrella. The
sound balances somewhere between European-pop-group and American-rock -band with a different emphasis in each song. From the Skope
Magazine review of the album: "Hooks Around every corner". Authentic". "For some modern pop that looks to the 80s for its influences, go
no further than Stage Republic’s Firstage." The songs of Stage Republic deal with ambitions and relations in a fast changing world. The desire to have what you can’t have. To do the unthinkable. Achieve the impossible. There is often a dark
undertone or double meaning. HIGHLY Recommended! (Reprinted from May Issue) - Stage Republic was nominated in
four categories for the 2016 IMEA Awards: 1. Alternative Song of the Year (I got Your Back) 2. Pop Artist of the Year 3.
Pop Song of the Year (The Dream) and Pop Songwriter of the Year (Raven). No one deserves to win more!

Artist Profile
21-year-old singer/
songwriter Haley Greene is
a northern Virginia native
residing in the Blue Ridge
mountains. She was
brought up in many different countries because of
her parent's job which
led to a more culturally-immersed lifestyle throughout
her childhood years. Her early exposure to different kinds
of music in these places sparked her interest in songwriting early on as a self-taught guitarist/vocalist. Additionally, she plays the ukulele, piano, keytar, synth, and
mandolin. Her voice is fabulous beyond doubt and I like
her compositions a lot although she is a little melancholy
for me. She is still well-worth a listen and I can only expect great things from her in the future.

The months are getting busier and
busier much to my pleasure. However, the downside is I had less time
to scout new talent. I did indeed
find some great artists, just not
enough of them. I have already redoubled my scouting efforts and
feel confident we will have healthy
additions to our growing family. As
always please refer any local bands
that you feel deserve the attention.

Gun violence in America is destroying the American way of life.
This is not an issue of gun control, or taking anyone’s weapons
away, it is about mindful living and valuing life over ego and personal rights. Where has our common sense gone? Do we really
need laws to keep hand guns out of the hands of teenagers? Is it
necessary to militarize the police, which inspires the people to
do the same? Why do we allow novice gun purchasers to have
the weapon before they prove their proficiency at using it safely?
You can’t even get behind the wheel of a car without such scrutiny. What gives America? We have been better than that. The
Second Amendment, which was utilitarian at the time, has been
obviously stretched to now cover any type of weapon obtainable
for any reason. When America finally admitted that cigarettes
were deadly, they were quickly subdued and heavily restricted.
Guns are just as deadly, especially when handled by novices, yet,
there has been no similar response to guns. I guess America cannot admit the truth at this time, but one day will be forced
to do so. We stood together to stop big tobacco from killing our citizens en masse, can we please do the same about guns?
WJKO and I do not advocate for gun control. Instead, we advocate for gun sense. No one wants your guns, but use them
with wisdom when hunting and when you go out for the evening, wherever you are, just “Leave Your Gun at Home.”
RIP Isis Allen a sweet 6 year old Pittsburgh girl who was on her porch when a youth “lost control” of his gun and killed her
7/20/2016. Isis was part of the WJKO extended family. I grieve for her and all who suffer daily with this atrocity.
