"THE RED BUTTON pushes all my buttons!" -- Robert Schwartzman, Rooney
"If there is a front runner for the best of 2007, this is it. Well produced, written,
and performed, The Red Button is gonna be stuck on your MP3 player for quite
some time. Get it!"-- Jay Anderson, Popbang.com
The Red Button is made up of Los Angeles-based singer-songwriters Seth Swirsky and Mike Ruekberg.
Ruekbergʼs indie credentials are rock solid: He spent the '90s as writer and singer for an underachieving
but beloved band (Minneapolis-based pop-rockers Rex Daisy, who recorded a CD for Geffen Records with
producer Paul Fox, only to have the album unceremoniously rejected by Geffen for not sounding enough
like Guns and Roses), then moved to L.A. and wrote the soundtrack for an underachieving but beloved
indie film (Dummy, starring Adrien Brody, which played almost constantly on cable TV for a couple of years).
Swirsky's legitimate music credentials are impressive: He's written hit songs for dozens of artists, ranging from
Al Green to Tina Turner to Taylor Dayne. (He's also written three hugely successful books about baseball!)
The two met in 2004, when Seth was recording his first solo album, Instant Pleasure (which went on to win Best
Pop Album at the 2005 Los Angeles Music Awards). They hit it off immediately--though clearly from opposite
sides of the music world, they realized that they shared one passion above all: A love of concise,
melodic pop songs.
Naturally, they got together and started writing and recording songs.
Their goal was to write melodies and lyrics that were timeless but fresh--songs
that were catchy but substantial. She’s About to Cross My Mind is the result of
those sessions: eleven pop songs created, says Goldmine Magazineʼs John Borack,
“the way God and Paul McCartney must have intended”.
Amplifier Magazine and International Pop Overthrow Music Festival founder
David Bash says “Swirsky and Ruekberg can now wear their rightful
crown as the Peter Holsapple/Chris Stamey of the New Millennium”. the
