Sir Knights,
The Christmas season has come and gone and we
move into the New Year but not before
remembering some of the events associated with
the Christmas holiday. I want to take this
opportunity to thank Mike Greene and Bob Wise
for making the arrangements for our Christmas
Luncheon at Patrizio in Plano. New Year brings
about many resolutions as we look to change our
lives for the better. I wonder which of mine will
be the first one broken. I would ask that everyone
take some time to look at their commitment to the Fourth Degree and see if
they can possibly help out the assembly a little more. We have new
members that we could use some help bringing onboard. Could you help to
mentor one of our twelve new members to the Christopher Columbus
Assembly?
This month we will have a special mass at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson
Convention Center to mark the anniversary of the travesty know as Roe v
Wade. It was here in Dallas that our government went down the wrong
road to legalize abortion. We will be joining others on this day to pray that
the Lord will help us to get that ruling overturned. I would ask that all able
bodied members of the Color Corps, please show up in regalia to
demonstrate our support for the Bishops of the Third Texas District that
will be attending this event. Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Tyler Diocese
and Bishop Michael Olson will be joining celebrant Bishop Kevin Farrell
and Auxiliary Bishop Douglas Deshotel at this special mass.

Your attendance at this very special mass as well as the other events of this day would be
greatly appreciated.
The Dallas diocese received an early Christmas present according to Bishop Kevin Farrell.
We have a new Auxiliary Bishop as the Holy Father named Monsignor J. Gregory Kelly to
the position on Wednesday December 16, 2015. Our new bishop is a member of our assembly and has served as Vicar General for Clergy of the diocese. It is always great to see a
Brother Sir Knight who has served our diocese so well for 34 years be recognized. Please
join me in congratulating Bishop Kelly on his appointment.
The 2015 Christmas holiday has passed us but unfortunately it is a holiday that will be remembered for death and destruction. The tornadoes that hit North Central Texas on Saturday
December 26th have left a mark on our community. Although eleven people lost their lives
and many were injured in the various tornadoes we have to be thankful that the losses were
not more severe in numbers. Requests have already been made to the Knights to help with
debris removal in the Garland area which was one of the hardest hit areas in North Texas.
Please take a few moments to ask the Lord to take into his arms those killed and injured by
the storms as well as their families. And also thank the Lord that the death toll and devastation was not worse.
As we move into the New Year my wish for you and your families is that it will be a joyous
and prosperous New Year!
Vivat Jesu!
Jack
COMMITTEE OF 1,000
By Mike Greene
The Committee of 1000 is a program which funds incidental expenses for seminarians in the
Diocese of Dallas. All funds collected are given to the Director of Vocations for the Dallas
Diocese, Fr. Edwin Leonard for distribution to seminarians in need. This is an important program, as these seminarians do not have a "full boat" college scholarship with all the trimmings nor do all of them have family resources to help them in their needs. Recently Council
13520 collected money to help one of the seminarians buy a winter coat. Yes, seminarians get
cold too.
These pins show YOUR support for our seminarians, especially those who the Assembly supports through the RSVP Program. The pins are $10 each. Show you care. Support vocations,
your future depends upon it. If your Council does not have any pins, see our Faithful Trustee
Mike Greene who always has some pins.

COLOR CORPS COMMANDER’S REPORT
I want to thank the Color Corps members that turned
out for the Plano Christmas Parade on December 12.
We were supposed to lead Council 6065’s parade entry, but they had equipment problems, so we led the
Our Lady of Angels entry, and the St. Mark Knights
and family members joined in. All went well, but it
was a very humid and windy day; but it didn’t rain on
us.
There is only one remaining event in December, and I
hope we have a good turnout to help the Fr. Abram J.
Ryan (FAJR) Assembly’s Color Corps for the Anniversary Mass listed below. The rest of the events identify a busy January for us. They are:
January 9, Council 11716’s Corporate Communion at Prince of Peace at the 5:00 PM Mass.
January 16, the Roe Memorial Mass at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center at 1:00 PM.
The time to assemble will be 12:00 PM.
January 23, Council 12021’s Corporate Communion at St. Paul at the 5:30 PM Mass.
January 29, St. Mark’s 50th Anniversary Mass at 5:30 PM. Fr. Cliff has specifically requested the
Color Corps’ presence.
January 30, Bishop Farrell’s Award for Service Mass at the Cathedral at 10:00 AM. This is a new
Diocesan event for the Color Corps.
I’d still like to see a better turnout by our current Color Corps members. If you have regalia, we need
your help, and I’d appreciate your support even if the event is outside your home Parish. The regulars
aren’t always available to carry the load. You spent a lot of money to buy regalia, so why not put it to
good use.
I want to emphasize that the invitation to join the Color Corps is open to all of our Assembly members, and our new Sir Knights are encouraged to join us. If you’d like to give the Color Corps a try
before making a commitment, please contact one of us listed below. We can get you involved without
a formal practice, and we have a limited amount of “loaner regalia,” so you can give it a try before
becoming a full-fledged member. Call or send me an e-mail at [email protected], or contact
Jim or Paul at the numbers listed below. Please consider joining this highly visible arm of the
Knights of Columbus. I think you would find it enjoyable, and the camaraderie is great!
On behalf of my Deputy Color Corps Commanders (DCCCs) listed below, please know that it’s our
pleasure and honor to serve you. We would like to have you on the Color Corps Team.
We wish you and your families a MERRY and HOLY CHRISTMAS, and a HAPPY and
HEALTHY NEW YEAR!!
Fraternally,
Bill Ptacek
