PAGE 3 Testing Schedule It’s that time of year again. . . as we head into the season of standardized testing we want to make sure families are aware of the testing schedule. It is very important that your child is in school on each and every day of testing. Making up a testing day because of an absence means that your child will have to miss important content in his or her regular classes. Please make every effort to not schedule or reschedule appointments or other absences so that your child can be in school on the following dates: 3rd grade: 4th grade: 5th grade: 6th grade: 7th grade: 8th grade: 9th grade: 10th grade: 11th grade: April 5-21 April 5-21 April 11-21 April 12, April 13, May 9, May 10 April 12, April 13, May 9, May 10 April 18, April 20, May 10, May 11 May 10, May 11 May 11, May 12 April 27, April 28, May 11, May 12 Testing Tips Beginning in April, students will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment. A letter has been sent home regarding more information about the state assessment, as well as ideas for preparation of the test for your child. Information about the assessment can be found at: http://commoncore.sd.gov/assessment.aspx Parents can access complete Practice Tests in English and math for grades 3 through 8 and 11 at http://www.smarterbalanced.org/practice-test/. There is no need to study in preparation for the assessments. We do, however, ask that you encourage your children to do their best and get plenty of rest the night before the assessment and breakfast the mornings of the test. It is important that you make sure your child comes to school on days that he/she has tests. Making up a missed test means time out of class and losing important learning time that cannot be made up. This testing is very important for your child and for the Stanley County School District. Thank you for supporting your child and our school during the test. Please call if you have any questions. We know that Stanley County’s students will help us show what our students know and can do. New Vaccination Requirements Due to changes in law made during this year’s legislative session, the South Dakota Department of Health is now requiring that 6th graders receive one dose of both the Tdap (tetanus/ diphtheria/pertussis) vaccine and the MCV4 (meningococcal) vaccine on or after their 11th birthday. Contact your health care provider for more information. Prom Candidates Congratulations to our 2016 Prom King and Queen Candidates! Those nominated for the honor are: Kady Nielsen, Tya Lewis, Caitlin Pinela, Kaycee Cronin, Colten Drageset, Brevin Klemann, and Michael Scott. Book Fair Thank You Thanks to everyone who supported the Book Fair this spring! The school receives credit for every order and is able to purchase new books and materials for the library with these credits. The students are always excited to see what the book fairs offer! Contact Information Have you moved? Has your phone number changed? Having the most up-to-date contact information on file at the school is the best way to ensure the school can reach you in the event of an emergency. If you have moved, changed jobs, or changed phone numbers since school began, you need to update the contact information for your child in the school office. You can do this by simply calling the elementary office at 223-7741, extension 301, or the middle/high school office at 223-7741, extension 120. Yearbooks Reserve your copy of the 2015-16 Buffalo Stampede Yearbook at a cost of $30. Please call or stop at the business office in Parkview Auditorium to reserve your copy.
