SUPER
SCIENCE
BY THOMAS BEASLEYEADES, LUCY BOURNE & ISABELLE HARMAN
RED NOSES AT
THE READY!
BY SASHA PRICE
Bickerton pupils have been getting down to lots of super science!
All the classrooms have new science are-
as where we can try things out and do ex-
periments and we had lots of fun during our science week!
Class 5 had competi-
tions while Class 4 had separated materials and Class 1 made lava lamps. Class 2 met ‘Discovery Dog’ and investigated the best materials for cleaning up a messy puddle! In Class 3, they were making ‘popping rock-
ets’, milk patterns and finding the best bag. We love Science at Bickerton! On the 15th March, it was time to get the red noses on and have a great time raising money for Comic Relief!
We all came in red clothes and some of the Year 5 girls painted peoples’ nails, sprayed hair, did tattoos and face paint and guess the name of the baby. We also did some fun activities in as-
sembly and it was teachers against school councillors!! The competitions included ‘how many clothes can you fit on as fast as you can, then ring the bell? Who can eat the most dry crackers? Can you fit loads of Maltesers in your mouth then say ‘fluffy bunny’? It was so funny!
Sebastian Armstrong even entertained everyone with his act juggling red noses!
All the money raised for Comic Relief will go to help people who are not as lucky as us, like giving people in Africa a better life, clean water and houses. The money can prevent them from get-
ting malaria, and help them to live a longer life. If you watched it on the telly, you could see all the daring challenges normal people and celebrities did like Jessie Jay shaving off her hair! But it’s a great cause so they knew they had made the right decision and we are glad that we at Bickerton helped too!

AMAZING ART CLUB
BY ZOE VAUGHAN, SASHA PRICE & EMILY EDWARDS
This year, lots of people have
been doing Art Club with Chris
Gilbert and they have had the
best time!
We have asked some people what
they thought of it. Emily F said
“It is really fun. Chris is really
nice. The best thing was the
Christmas cards, they weren’‛t
hard and we got to make the designs ourselves. Anna G said “I
feltexcited on the first day.
Everything is really fun!”. Millie
added “Chris helped a lot. I was
so excited when I joined that I
thought I was going to explode
with happiness! Our Christmas
cards were spectacular!”
Goldie said “Chris is very friendly and when you are stuck he always helps you.” Rachel J said
“You get to learn a lot about
drawing. You get to do lots of
fun stuff.
Lucy B said “The things I like doing the most are drawing animals.” Sophia added “We love
the glitter pens.”
Art club is so fun we have all enjoyed it! Thank Chris!
THE SANDSTONE CHALLENGE
BY SOPHIE FURNIVAL
On Saturday 4th May, some marvellous mums from Bickerton will be doing walking the Sandstone Trail from
Willington to Bulkeley Hill which will
be 11 miles. They are doing it to
raise money for the school PTA and
the British Heart Foundation. They
have already been busy going on
practice walks. Feel free to join
them!
TERRIFIC TATTON PARK
BY SASHA PRICE & ZOE VAUGHAN
Class 4 all went to Tatton Park to have a very inter-
esting day.
They got up to loads of ex-
citing things such as getting lost in the maze trying to find the middle! We got real-
ly muddy in the maze too. We also went into the man-
sion and it was so pretty, but we went into the dungeon and that wasn’t pretty at all! They said there were ghosts down there so we all freaked out!
We asked Mr Rich and Mrs Chesworth some questions:
What was the best thing?
Mr R: The massive Christ-
mas tree in the mansion
Mrs C: Going into the kitch-
en. What was the funniest thing?
Mr R: When the children got lost in the maze!
Mrs C: Going into the cellars and watching the children scream about the ghost. What place did you like the best?
Mr R: The cafe watching the planes go by
Mrs C: The gardens
THANK YOU MRS CHES-
WORTH AND MR RICH. We had a great time!

BICKERTON GETS BUILDING
BY ZOE VAUGHAN
We all got busy building when we had a Building and Making Day at school. It was the school council’s idea to have a special theme day. They got ideas from everyone and then voted for the best and the winner was ‘Building and Making Day’
Each class did a different chal-
lenge. Class 4 did ‘Saving the Easter Bunny’ – the Easter bun-
ny got ‘bunny-napped’ and we had to try and rescue him by building a tower so we could see over the trees. We could use construction, paper, tape and straws. It was very hard, but lots of fun. Joe’s tower was the strongest because even Mr Rich could stand on it! Gemma, Tom and Zoe’s tower was the tallest because it went up to the roof. Class 2 made a whole mod-
el city, while Class 5 made towers using only newspa-
per and masking tape. Class 3 made giant burgers and piz-
zas to go with their literacy work. Class 1 had fun building too!
Mrs B said “The best thing about Building and Making Day was that it gave everyone the chance to work well together to achieve something. Everyone was very proud of themselves!”
Bickerton Builders, can we fix it? Yes we can!
TOP TOPIC BOOKS!
BY JESSICA FIELD
We all love our topic books at Bickerton!
There’‛s all sorts in them like science, art and
lots of FUN!
We all like to share them with the rest of the
school in sharing assembly. Here are some of
our favourite pages!

EPIC YOUNG VOICES!
BY SASHA PRICE & ZOE VAUGHAN
Some children from Year 4, 5 and 6 went on a
wonderful trip to perform at the Young Voices
concert at the Manchester arena.
They had been practising and practising for a few
months and it took a while to learn all the songs and
dance moves. At the concert, they performed with
thousands of other children and some special acts.
We have asked a few people for their opinions about
it:
Mrs Boothby went for the very first time and she
said “I thought it was amazing!! A once in a life time
opportunity and a great atmosphere! The practice in
the afternoon was hard work, but totally worth it because then, we got to sing with loads of other people
and schools. The best thing was when they turned the
lights of and all you could see was the torches. Magic!”
We also asked Sasha’‛s mum Elizabeth Price some
questions:
Did you enjoy it?
We also asked Mrs. Chesworth some questions:
How was it?
Fantastic as usual.
What was your best song?
Yes it was great.
‘Musical memories’‛ and all of them! The taking part
was the best bit.
Yes they were brill.
The practising!
Did you like the songs?
What was the best part of the night?
When the lights went out.
What was your favourite act?
I liked the African children’‛s choir.
What was the hardest part?
Thank you so much Mrs. Tedham for organising it and
to all the rest of the staff who came!

BY SOPHIE FURNIVAL
BY ISABELLE HARMAN
Years 4, 5 and 6 went to Malbank School to compete in a singing competition. including “A very confi-
dent and strong perfor-
mance, clearly enjoyed by the students!”
Also Miss Clay (the music teacher) entered us into the saxophone and clarinet competi-
tion. The choir sang ‘Roller Ghoster’, ‘Any dream will do’ and ‘Pop idol’. They did very well as they were against all Cheshire East schools, well done! The judge gave them really good feedback, The Saxophone and Clarinet also did ex-
tremely well, they played two songs: Spring at Bickerton and Christmas song. They also played very very well! Well done! On Saturday 2nd March, Sophie Furnival did a sponsored silence!! She did it for 2 hours and it was very hard but she still managed it. She raised £21.50 which will all go to Comic Relief. She said “I did it because I have always wanted to do something to help people in poor countries.” (Well done Sophie—not sure I would be able to do what you did!! Very brave! - Editor)

BY SOPHIE FURNIVAL & SASHA PRICE
On 14th February, the school councillors held Cookie Day! Everybody brought in cakes and cookies and at the end of the day, we all got to buy them. It was such a great success we raised £185.10!!!!!!
We asked some of the teachers how they thought of the day. Mrs Chesworth said “I loved it and re-
ally enjoyed the cookies, such a big choice!”
Then we asked Mr Rich what he thought of his first Cookie Day at Bickerton School. He said “It was FAB! I never thought it would be soooo busy, and all the cookies tasted and looked amazing!”
All the money will be spent by the School Coun-
cil on new playground toys for infants and jun-
iors. Thank you to everybody who bought cook-
ies!

PRETTY PRINCESSES AND BRAVE KNIGHTS IN CLASS 1
BY ISABELLE HARMAN, JESSICA FIELD & THOMAS BEASLEY-EADES
Class 1 had fun when they dressed up as princesses and knights and had a medieval banquet!
Mrs Tudor answered some questions about this fun event.
Whose costume did you like best?
Aaron’s was amazing!
Was there a battle against knights?
Yes, we have some pictures of them protecting the princesses! Also, the knights had to accompany the princesses around the school. What games did you play? Medieval dancing and everyone told a joke at the banquet! What food did you eat? Very healthy food but we did have a castle cake made by Mrs Carrington.
What was your favourite bit? The beautiful behaviour!
COOL CADBURY WORLD
BY ZOE VAUGHAN
Class 3 and 4 went on a fantastic trip to Cad-
bury world. First off all we went in the Aztec jungle and there were models of people that were sort of acting it out but staying still. We saw some real people who were talking about their boat and they said they were holding sheep poo, but really they were hold-
ing coca beans! We went past and smelt it. After that, we went through a room and watched a film. In the film they were talking about chocolate and when smoke came up on the screen, out of our seat came smoke and it wobbled!
We walked all around the factory and watched how chocolate was made. Then we had lunch but we didn’t have a lot of time to eat because we needed to go to ‘The Essence’ and watch to find out how chocolate was discovered. Then we went in another room and got a cup of chocolate and got a choice of toppings there were: marshmal-
lows, white chocolate buttons, and wine gums, rice krispies and last of all jelly babies. We went in an education room and watched a movie about how cocoa beans travel to the UK. The lady said “who wants to ask a question?” Mr Rich put his hand up he said: why do some of the signs say Cadbury’s world and some say Cadbury world?” and the lady said “I don’t know because the boss says it is Cadbury world!” Thank you Miss Gittins and Class 3 for letting us come! We had a great day learning about choco-
late.
(I am very jealous! Take me with you next time!!! – Editor)
GETTING BUSY
BY SASHA PRICE
On the7th March it was World Book Day and as usual, everyone at Bickerton dressed up!
There were some great costumes on show. In Class 4, Tom Beasley-Eades came as a Womble (Uncle Bulgaria) Sasha Price came as Susan out of Narnia, Emily Edwards came as Augustus Gloop, Zoe Vaughan came as Bellatrix L’Estrange from Harry Potter and Christy came as Lucy out of Narnia. Some other good costumes were Ross as Noddy, Sophie as Gangster Granny, Casper as Indiana Jones and Thomas in Class 1 as Where’s Wally. Even the staff dressed up! Mrs Tudor was Cruella de Vil and Mrs Tedham was Burglar Bill. Mr Innes came as Luigi from Mario brothers which was perfect as Class 2’s Alex Field came as Mario! We asked Mr Innes how he thought it went and he said “Brill! I en-
joyed it loads and everybody made a great effort.”
Every class got to have some parents to come in to read to them, which was nice. Class 4 took their pic-
tures home once they had been laminated. It was so fun and we did a Tiddler story competition when we listened to a story and had to write our own version. There is going to be prizes for the winners!
We all had a great day enjoying books and reading! (A huge thanks to all parents for helping to produce such super costumes and especially to those parents who came in to read—you made our day! - Editor)

They also made a pizza restaurant role play ‘Pizza King’ and made their own salt dough pizzas, signs, and menus to make it really good! Their ‘Hansel and Gretel’ work was very popular and Ruby told us “I loved making a gingerbread house because it was a fun activity with lots of different sweets to decorate it!” They also enjoyed acting out the story, exploring the story set-
ting and characters and writing their own stories. Lulu enjoyed making her 3D gingerbread man because she liked putting the stuffing in and Daisy loved it when we made our igloo because we all worked together as a team. Building and Making Day was also popular in Class 2 and Alfie said “I liked the police station in our model city” while Ted said “It was good be-
cause we all got to do something different for the city” Another highlight was learning about Chinese New Year with Mrs Eccles. Alex said “I liked the rice, noodles and prawn crackers!” while Jess said she liked all the Chi-

Class 4 have enjoyed their topic work on Changes, looking at themselves and the environment and working in the Science area. They have also had fun playing maths games!

ered in choco-
late! Class 5

SNOW, SNOW,
SNOW!
BY ISABELLE HARMAN & SOPHIE FURNIVAL
First week back after the Christmas holiday and what a fantastic start, it snowed! Everybody had permission to throw lots of snowballs and Mr Richardson and all of class 4 had a huge snowball fight with everyone join-
ing in! Everyone made a lot of forts too!
But in the end Mr Rich said that the snowballs were getting too hard like compacted ice. We asked some people about what they thought about the snow. Mr Richardson said “I loved it! It made the school look like a Christmas card. But I did get fed up of falling over and having to wear silly boots! I hated driving in the snow as some peo-
ple were so silly but I loved playing football and the snow ball fights.”
Mrs Tudor commented “The snow was a bit of a nuisance but it was fun for all the children.”
Mrs Boothby said “The snow is great fun and there are lots of educational activities you can do in it. We made snow sculptures as part of our art lesson!”
Class 1 pupil Maisie Tudor commented “It was great because I loved building the snowmen”
The snow was great, even though at the end, we all got fed up with soggy socks and gloves!
INVASION OF THE IGLOOS!
BY JESS FIELD
As you may know this year we’re most likely to have a white Easter!!! We were all surprised but hap-
py to get another load of snow just before the Easter holidays! Here at Bickerton, we love hav-
ing fun in the snow and we have made some fantastic crea-
tions! But some people have made the most of the snow by trying to live in it! We have had igloos popping up all over the field and Class 2 worked to-
gether to create their own in the celebration garden! Mrs Weav-
er and Mrs B had even made their own at home and brought us the pictures to see. MARVELLOUS MUMS
BY LUCY BOURNE
On Monday 11th March, Class 1 and 2 did a bril-
liant performance in front of their mums for Moth-
er’s Day. They sang songs and recited poems about mums and even said their feelings about their mums. Mrs B said “It was a lovely assem-
bly and I think all the mums loved it be-
cause all you could hear was ‘aw!’ lots all through the service! All the children really enjoyed it too!” Class 2 also performed their dance that they had been working on with Mrs Par-
sons, all about South African ani-
mals. Well done Class 1 and 2. BICKERTON SCHOOL WORDSEARCH

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
The Spring edition of the Bickerton Bulletin
has landed! The term was very short, but we
were not short of news to cover, which is
why we were a little later going to print!
I want to thank my trusty team of reporters,
who have yet again worked really hard to
finish this term’s Bulletin! They have shown
real dedication to getting the magazine finished and I am very proud of them. WELL
DONE TO ALL OF YOU!
And finally, thank you all for reading our creation and being the subjects of it! What a lot
we get up to at Bickerton!
Please let us know if you have any ideas of
stories we can cover in our next edition.
Happy reading!

BICKERTON’S OLYMPIC HERO
BY SOPHIE FURNIVAL
On 24th January, we had a special visit from youth Olympian Lucy Burgess!
This amazing girl won a gold medal in rowing for the women’s four and a bronze for the women’s eight in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney
Only aged 18, this great success was from a Bickerton pupil because Lucy came here! We asked her how she felt about winning and she said “It was amazing, the best feeling in the world, especially when they played the national anthem!” We asked her if she had any advice for us and she said “Keep going and only listen to the positive comments you get. I was shocking at PE when I was at school!”
It was very exciting to meet her. Sasha said “It was really cool seeing Lucy Burgess and her medals and I was amazed she used to come to this school!”
Mrs Tedham added “I was really thrilled that someone from Bickerton has been in the youth Olympics and it is really special that she came back to share the news”
Go Lucy! We’ll look out for you in the next Olym-
pics!
CLASS 4’S DELIGHTFUL DANCE
BY ZOE VAUGHAN
Class 4 took part in a dance festival on Wednesday 13th March and Thursday 14th March at Bishop Heber. They based it on South Africa because of our link activities with Tiger Kloof school this year. It was a wonderful dance called ‘Safari’ and we had learnt it with Mrs Parsons. We performed it wearing coloured T-shirts and lots of other schools from the area took part. On the first night they called us Tushingham but luckily the next night Mrs Parsons reminded her that we were Bickerton and they got it right! On Thurs-
day, we watched all the dances and Tom thought that the chocolate one was the best and Sasha and I thought the surfing in the UK dance was the best! At the start of the whole dance, every school came on the stage with the banner and ours was the best because it had lights on it from Young Voices.
Mrs Parsons has also worked on a version of the dance with the other classes in the school. She said “The children performed the dance beauti-
fully with no mistakes and we all had a great time! Thanks to Mrs Chesworth and Mr Richard-
son for coming along to help too.” FANTASTIC FOOTBALL
BY SOPHIE FURNIVAL
On Thursday 28th February, Year 4 boys went to Kings School in Chester to play in a festi-
val of football.
They played 6 games and won them all! They didn’t even let a single goal in with their brilliant goalkeeper Danny Mosford. They then went to the next round of the Everton School Cup.
A couple of weeks later, they went to the RYAN’‛S
TROPHY
Everton Youth Acade-
my Training Facility in Merseyside. It was very exciting because they were at the offi-
cial training ground of Everton FC!! There was loads of schools competing all across Cheshire. They won 2 games, lost 3 and drew 1 and overall, they came 4th. They had a great ex-
perience and wish to go back next year!
Mrs Parsons said “The boys played excellently and behaved very well. Thank you to Gaynor and Mrs Weetch for help with the transport.”

Class 2 has

in football.
We are all
very proud
of him. Well
done Ryan!
On 6th March some children from Year 5 and 6 went to take part in two netball tour-
naments. One was a mixed and one was an all-girls. They played against teams from Tilston, Malpas, Tattenhall, Tushing-
ham, Clutton and Shocklach and everyone played really well. The girls’ team came 2nd in their tournament and the mixed team came 3rd.
We asked Mrs Chesworth what she thought and she said “I re-
ally enjoyed it. Everyone played really well and did Bick-
erton proud.”
Everybody really enjoyed it and we all can’t wait to play the next tournament. Thanks to Mrs Chesworth for taking both teams as Mrs Par-
sons was with the football team that day. Thanks also to Mrs Weaver and Mr Sweetnam for helping with the transport.

BY ISABELLE HARMAN & LUCY BOURNE
On Thursday 31st January, a variety of students
from year 4, 5 and 6
went to the Bishop Heber

an athletics event named
‘Sportshall’‛.
We were competing against
4 other schools including
Tushingam, Tattenhall and
Malpas Alport. All the children were allowed to do
two track, and two field
events. The track events
were: 1x1 and 2x2 running,
paarlauf(6 laps in total!) and hurdles. The
children did ever so well and eventually we
field events were: long jump, speed bounce, came 2nd!
javelin, chest push and vertical jump. All the Mrs Parsons was ever so happy!
HANDBALL HEROES
BY SOPHIE FURNIVAL
On February 27th Mrs Parsons entered us into a hand-
ball competition at Bishop Heber.
Handball is a cross between basketball, neball and football. We played 6 games and won all of them ex-
cept one! Wow! Mrs Parsons said “The team played magnificently and also really enjoyed themselves. I was very proud. Well done!”
