Innovative Travel MD elected to Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce Board Congratulations to ICCNZ Member, Robyn Galloway, Managing Director of Innovative Travel, who has been newly elected to the Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce Board. Robyn says she is very pleased to have been elected, given that there were 19 nominations, 12 positions and only two new members appointed. She says that after 20 years in business she would like to become more involved in the national issues for business owners and specifically SMEs. “There are common concerns which face many small companies, including the cost of Government compliance,” says Robyn. “Sometimes our voice is not heard very effectively, but I hope by taking a step towards being more active in decision making, that long term this may change.” OPPORTUNITÀ Buon Gusto Dinner La Bella Italia – La Bambina, Wellington International Art Centre - Parnell Summer Collection 3 December 2009 - 1 February 2010 ICCNZ Member, Frances Davies of the International Art Centre, advises that with over thirty-six resident artists currently completing a multitude of exciting new works, the annual Summer Exhibition promises to be one of the best ever. th Saturday 28 November saw a gathering of ICCNZ and EU members and friends for dinner at La Bella Italia – La Bambina, Wellington. Patricia Hurley’s Italian for Opera Singers Masterclasses, Tuscany, and Concerts in Tuscany and Rome, Italy, September 2009 Since 2002 Patricia Hurley has been organising her Masterclasses for New th Zealand opera singers in a beautiful 18 century villa in Tuscany. Nearly 30 of New Zealand’s top young opera singers have attended including Anna Leese, Aivale Cole and Ben Makisi. Because learning Italian is so necessary for opera singers and because there are few learning opportunities in New Zealand, Patricia, after being manager of the Wellington opera company, decided to seek opportunities in Italy for singers to be introduced to Italian language and culture, the opera icons of Italy and to perform on Italian stages. Don’t miss this opportunity to step back in time to ancient Pompeii. Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington For further details on the exhibition - http://www.tepapa.govt.nz The Museum Hotel in Wellington - a loyal and valued supporter of ICCNZ – is just across the road from Te Papa, check out their packages, inclusive of accommodation, breakfast and tickets to ‘A Day in Pompeii’, from $249.00 per night. For further information - www.museumhotel.co.nz Add a special touch, with dinner at Hippopotamus, the hotel’s award winning in-house restaurant offers harbour views and French style cuisine by Laurent Loudeac. This year our performers were sopranos Julia Booth from Hamilton, Kirstin Sharpin, an Aucklander resident in the UK, and Timua Brennan from Rotorua. Each day they had lessons with a foremost language teacher from nearby Siena and individual coaching with Maestro Wyn Davies, preparing for Concerts in the Grand Salone of the Villa where we have built up quite a following, and in the 2000 year old Theatre of Marcellus in Rome, as part of the Rome Summer Nights Festival. Our appearance there was supported by the New Zealand Embassy and representatives of the Embassy and 50 of their guests along with 300 people were in the audience. At each concert, Timua’s “Canti Maori” (“Maori Songs”) alongside the Italian Opera Arias, gave a particular resonance to our presentation. Julia Booth summed up the success of the Masterclasses: “Access to language enlightens music in new ways, but it came as a surprise to discover the buildings, cathedrals and art, all gave the music and singing a new perspective. The connections seem obvious but it is not until you experience this first hand that you appreciate how deeply full immersion into Italian culture can influence your understanding of and interest in music and performance of opera.” Cav. Patricia Hurley Antonio’s “The 2010 Grand Tour” Cav. Antonio Cacace of La Bella Italia, started food and culture tours in 2006. The tours started as a way of fulfilling his passion for the products, perfumes, colours of Italy and especially his hometown. Many people have shared this passion and want, even more, to experience it. This 2010 tour is the culmination of many customer requests, now friends.
