NEW Renaissance Kids
T
En ri c h me nt p r og r a m
he Katonah Art Center is thrilled to announce our Renaissance
Kids Enrichment Program for Pre-Schoolers & Kindergarteners.
Our mission is to provide a hands-on learning environment where
children can be free to explore the arts in a warm encouraging
setting, fostering self-awareness and self-confidence.
We have designed this very special program with two goals in
mind. Our primary goal is to provide a diverse multi-arts environment designed
to stimulate your kindergartner’s imagination, creativity and intellect. Our
secondary goal is to immerse your child in a bi-lingual environment, introducing them to basic Spanish vocabulary as well as, conversational Spanish.
Each day at the Renaissance Room will consist of a mix of story time, art,
dance, or movement and music. Spanish will be incorporated into all of our
day’s activities. Patti Hupp, founder of Miss Patti’s ArtSmart and ArtSmart TV
and lead singer in the Feeling Groovy Band, will be our primary instructor.
Ms. Patti will also have a co-teacher Evelyn Rodriguez,
whose native language is Spanish and in charge of our
language program.
The Katonah Art Center has earned its reputation as
the pre-eminent school of visual and performing arts in
Northern Westchester. In addition to our newly renovated
Renaissance Kids classrooms, our facility houses three
art studios, an Apple computer lab, two pottery studios,
a yoga studio and a ballet studio. The students in our
Renaissance Kids program will spend time in each of our
studios, taking full advantage of everything that KAC
has to offer. We will be using the pottery studio, the art studio, the dance studio
and the yoga studio every week.
Transportation for Kindergarteners will be provided via Mother Hen Transportation, from Katonah Art Center to Increase Miller Elementary School.
Students from KES can take the bus directly from their school to the art center
where they will be met by Renaissance Kids staff. Maximum class size: 12
students. As part of KAC, Renaissance Kids will follow the Katonah-Lewisboro school schedule, including inclement weather delays and closings. Our
school year begins Sept. 23 and ends June 19, 2014. Tuition will be billed in
three payments.

Early Childhood
Little Dancers (ages 3 & 4 yrs.) In this class, students will sing, dance
and act. Imagination and movement (and a little bit of silliness) will be the staples of this class while exposing students to the rudiments of dance. This class
is fun and appropriate for boys and girls alike!
Pre-Ballet (ages 4 - 5) Give your young child the gift of Ballet, improv-
ing their balance, grace, poise and memory while they have fun! Basic ballet
skills, terminology, rhythm and coordination are taught and developed in a
supportive and supervised environment.
NEW! enrichment dance See page 4 for more details! This class is open
to the public! Participants outside of Renaissance Enrichment may attend.
(ages 0 - 5) Come out and
learn new ways to celebrate your curves! Find ways to get some ‘me’ time with
your little one through a gentle and rigorous class structure led by a professional dancer and mom. Each class will include instruction for the children
with veil and tamborine and some simple focusing techniques to give mommies
room to dance. Boys and girls are both welcome, older children may attend
by special permission, and adults are also welcome to attend without a child.
Come celebrate this sensuous form as you strengthen and happily relax, tone
and shape your body - you and your child can learn a new way to interact
through connection and celebration.
NEW! bellydance for Mommy & Me
Ballet
(ages 5 - 6) A great follow-up to
Pre-Ballet, or introduction to Ballet for first-timers. Ballet is the basis for many
forms of dance, so this class is great on its own, or beneficial when paired with
any other Kindergarten dance course TADA offers. Basic ballet positions, terminology, and steps are taught in a supportive and encouraging environment
appropriate to this age group.
NEW! Kindergarten Ballet
Ballet IV (14+)
This is a multi-level class designed to encompass and encourage the dancer
who has completed Ballet III, or even those who are new to Ballet. Dancers
will continue to strengthen the body and core muscles through barre work,
particularly the feet and ankles to prepare for more advanced work. Emphasis
will be placed on proper technique and developing a repertoire of ‘steps’ and
movement through center floor work / combinations / progressions. Instructors
will provide individual attention to ensure that each student works safely at
their ability level to develop musicality, strengh and grace.
NEW! Ballet for guys
Designed for young men ages 10+ to focus on the specific needs and movement
of the male dancer. Basic positions and dance vocabulary will be taught with
an emphasis on strength, flexibility and technique, beginning at the barre and
progressing to center combinations that will encompass the leaps and turns of
the Baryshnikov and more!! This is a multi-level class, particularly geared to
the Beginner or Advanced Beginner.
NEW! Partnering
This class is designed for both male and female dancers who are proficent in
basic ballet and / or lyrical technique and ready to learn the dynamics of lifts,
supported dips and pirouettes and more. Dancers should be at the intermediate
level and above and be taking one or more ballet classes per week.
NEW! Pre-Pointe
In this class most work will be done at the barre. This class is designed to
strengthen the feet, ankles, back and core, preparing dancers in a safe and technically sound manner to go en pointe. Students must also be registered for the
Ballet III or Ballet IV on the same day.
Beginning / Adv beg adult ballet
This class is for adults who have
never had a ballet class or who
would like to review the basics before starting their studies again, in a nurturing and
non-competitive environment.
Instructors will introduce the basic exercises and body positions
of ballet at the barre, with some
center floor work - strengthen
and tone while you learn. Come
work out, have fun and bring out
your “inner ballerina”!
Ballet I (ages 6 - 8)
ballet II (ages 8 - 10)
Ballet III (ages 11 - 13)
These classes are perfect for the Beginner and Advanced Beginner / intermediate level ballerina. Instructors will focus on strengthening the muscles, ankles
and feet through exercises at the barre and center floor. Proper ballet positions,
‘steps’ and technique will be taught and combined into combinations and center
floor work so that students can progress at their own pace in a nurturing and
non-competitive environment. Instructors will provide individual attention to
ensure that each student works safely at their ability level to progress to the
‘next level.’

Tai Chi
means, “breath work”. Learn how to use
your breath to reconnect the body with the world around
us. Practicing Chi Gong exercises in conjunction with the
breath will create a balanced flow of “chi.” This Eastern
energy system, thousands of years old, is still widely used
today. Modern science has proven chi gong to reduce stress,
improve our balance and posture, build muscle, regenerate
tissue and bone, circulate blood and most of all, create
inner peace.
Chi Gong
Tai Chi means “grand supreme ultimate”. Connect the
body and breath to the cosmos through this moving meditation. Build a foundation of strength, balance and calm with
these beautiful postures. Using our breath, we will learn to reconnect with our
“chi”, an eastern term used to describe the energy within us, proven to heal.

few faded memories hanging in our closet that we haven’t worn

We try them on privately in our more sentimental moments and
then quickly banish them back to the “hanger of no return”. However, with a
little patience, minimal skill and a bit of vision you can transform these old and
outgrown garments into new, improved pieces for the new, improved you. So

Now in its eigth year, our portfolio class has helped our
students gain admission to some of the best art schools
in the country! Designed to help teens prepare their art
school portfolios, this class runs during the school calendar year Sept - May and July / August. Over the course
of the year, we will cover many topics including still life,
outdoor painting, portraiture, life drawing, life sculpture,
classical oil painting, technical drawing, mixed media
and more. We will also work in many painting and drawing mediums, stressing strong finished pieces. Most of
the artwork will be done from life. Students will receive
a materials list and schedule upon enrollment. Students
must register for all months listed below, payment plans are available.
6:15– 8:45pm
This program has helped students get accepted into some of the best art schools
in the country. Your portfolio coach will review your child’s work to date assessing what their portfolio needs and creating a list of goals for the student. The
coach will then work with your teen’s schedule placing them in the KAC classes
they need to reach their portfolio goals. The teachers of each class your child
attends will be aware of their portfolio status and will work with them on the
pieces they need. The portfolio coach and student will have frequent meetings
to assess their progress. Parents are encouraged to attend the initial assessment
after which the students will be expected to work directly with their coach. This
program is only advisable if the student is highly motivated as expectations are
high. All coaching sessions and classes are included in the fee. You will also
receive invaluable counseling on art schools nationwide.

In this class using the Visual Arts & Yoga, we will start by quieting the mind
with some centering techniques, gentle movement, deep breathing and meditation. Once our thinking minds are quiet we will hear our souls speak and begin
the creative process by cutting and pasting pictures that focus on your vision of
the life you would have. Wear comfy clothes and bring photos and pictures that
speak to you. Remember we are gluing them on a board so bring copies if the
original is important. Let this be a fun creative way to think about the life you
