Issue 96
FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE
Dear Parents,
In light of the recent four days of weather related school
closings, I have given much consideration to this year's school
calendar. The calendar that the Board adopted for the 2013-14
school year includes seven emergency days should they be
needed. Without using the emergency days, the school year is
scheduled to end on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. At this time, I feel
that it is necessary to make up these days in order to maintain
the integrity of the school calendar.
I, therefore, am executing the use of four emergency days which
are included in the Board approved calendar. These days are
Monday, March 31; Wednesday, June 11; Thursday, June 12;
and Friday, June 13. The last day for student attendance is now
scheduled to be Friday, June 13, 2014. Please make note of this
change and plan accordingly. Should you have any questions or
concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ed Tivador
Superintendent of Schools

Dear 8 Grade Parents,
As we recently shared with you, Maple School's 8th grade
students will participate in our graduation ceremony
on Thursday, June 5th. However, the last day of attendance for
8th grade students will be Tuesday, June 10th. All 8th grade
students are expected to be in attendance on June 6th, 9th and
10th.
Activities normally scheduled before graduation have been
shifted to after graduation to ensure the academic integrity of the
school year. We have revised our end-of-the-year calendar and
activities to ensure a smooth and exciting conclusion to our
school year for our Maple Mustangs! In the spring, we will
provide a more detailed listing of information about these
end-of-the-year activities.
Here are some of the highlights for 8th graders:

MAPLE MATH TEAM COMPETES
Congratulations to Maple School's very first math team:
Yamenah Ambreen, Ethan Buttimer, Chris Chang,
and Ethan Schonfeld, for winning 3rd place at the 2014
Chapter MATHCOUNTS Competition! These students and an
alternate have qualified and will represent Maple School in the
state competition in
March. The
competitions are
comprised of three
rounds of individual
and team contests,
which include topics
such as probability,
statistics, linear
algebra and
polynomials. Students
who participated as individuals and also received exemplary
marks include Gayatri Chavan, Maddy Chen, Matthew
Chertok, Charles Kang, Catherine Mei and Britney Sun. All
students represented Maple School beautifully and should be
extremely proud of their accomplishments.
CONNECTING CAREERS TO CURRICULUM AND
CAREER DAY
We are asking for volunteers who would be interested in
sharing their current professional work experience and
knowledge with our students. It is our goal to create a pool of
knowledgeable people who would be willing to come into
classrooms and work with teaching staff to connect real world
experiences with current curriculum and/or participate in our
Career Day activities.
Classroom experiences at various grade levels may take place
throughout the year. When connections are identified, you may
