A Non-Profit, 501C3 Corporation 2011 Community Report Leadership Excellence Always Ready, Committed to the communities we serve since 1955 www.cetronia.org Greatness and success is achieved through a commitment to excellence. Excellence is not only a matter of what you do, but how you do it. Cetronia’s core values— customer focus, excellent patient care, community involvement, professionalism, integrity, leadership and teamwork—are the guiding principles that keep us focused on our constant pursuit of excellence. 2011 has marked significant achievements and monumental milestones for Cetronia Ambulance Corps as we continue our pursuit for excellence, regionalization and collaboration within the EMS system. As pre-hospital emergency medical providers, we demonstrate our continued commitment to excellence by our rapid delivery of patient care and our promise to not only respond, but to serve and protect our community. Guided by our Senior Management team and Board of Trustees we are not satisfied with simply keeping up with advances in pre-hospital healthcare; we are leading the industry and are shaping the future of emergency medical services, transportation and community health resources for residents of the Greater Lehigh Valley and its surrounding areas. Our growing community and aging population brings with it a need to strengthen the Valley’s healthcare infrastructure and expand its emergency services. Cetronia is focused on the future, utilizing advanced technologies and creating collaborative partnerships that will lead to better outcomes for our residents. Our 2011 Community Report highlights the many things that set Cetronia apart and the many ways that we make a difference in our communities. I invite you to see what we have accomplished in the past year and to join us on our journey into the future. Cetronia is well-positioned to form unique collaborations with other public health & safety organizations and implement upgrades to our technology, which will not only create better outcomes for our patients, but drive change in the EMS system for the communities benefit. HEALTH ON WHEELS TM striving for excellence RECOGNIZING EXCEPTIONAL PERFORMANCE Our people are our greatest asset. They are dedicated, caring, skilled and passionate about what they do. Because of our reputation for excellence in customer service and satisfaction, Cetronia has grown into one of the largest non-profit ambulance providers in Pennsylvania. Led by our Senior Management and Operations Team, Cetronia associates are highly skilled and trained, ultimately resulting in our ability to save more lives and truly make a difference in the communities we serve. Congratulations to our associates who were recognized for their dedication to EMS and excellence in clinical care during 2011! • Bill Aull received the prestigious designation as the Pennsylvania Basic Life Support Practitioner of the Year by the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council. Bill has 10 years experience in patient care and serves as an EMT for Cetronia. With his extremely caring demeanor, Bill is able to put each patient at ease and routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty. • Matt Sadrovitz was honored by the Pennsylvania EMS Provider Foundation as a “Star of Life.” Matt, a Paramedic and Crew Chief for Cetronia Ambulance Corps provides logistical and operational support to field providers as well as serving on an advanced life support squad. • Bruce Bray received a citation from Representative Julie HarHart for his more than 30 years of public service to his community and the impact he has had on his patients. • Luke Bulmer earned his Stork Pin for delivering a premature babygirl in her Whitehall Township home. striving for excellence ACHIEVING NATIONAL RE-ACCREDITATION Map highlights the CAAS accredited agencies in the tri-state area. In September of 2011, Cetronia Ambulance Corps was granted national re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) for its compliance in exceeding national standards of organizational and clinical excellence within the ambulance industry and its state licensing requirements. As part of this process, a panel of distinguished national EMS experts conducted a comprehensive analysis of our organization. The focus is not only on the delivery of patient care, but our policies, procedures, and operational and administrative functionalities, as well as Cetronia’s relationship with other agencies, the general public and the medical community. Our national accreditation represents our commitment to excellence and further demonstrates that Cetronia associates have a passion for saving lives. To the communities we serve, our accreditation signifies that Cetronia will provide support for educational programs and response to natural disasters or catastrophic events. To our customers, it signifies the high level of patient care they will receive and ensures them that they can count on continuous quality improvement being the mission and purpose of our service. Cetronia Ambulance Corps obtained its original accreditation in 2008 and remains one of only seven ambulance services to be nationally accredited in the state of Pennsylvania, the only service in Eastern PA; and one of 144 from a total of over 17,000 ambulance services in the United States that have achieved this great distinction. striving for excellence INVESTING IN LIFE-SAVING TECHNOLOGY Industry leaders like Cetronia Ambulance Corps use every advantage to add value, improve customer satisfaction and raise the bar on organizational performance. In 2011, Cetronia invested significant capital to upgrade and replace our 12-lead cardiac monitors/defibrillators on all Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency response vehicles. The new LIFEPAK 15 monitors/defibrillators allow pre-hospital providers to monitor critical body functions and identify instances of Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) during the early stages as to reduce the likelihood of cardiac tissue death. Combining this new technology with our High Performance EMS deployment system, Cetronia Ambulance Corps has been successful in reducing door-to-balloon response times for the residents of the Greater Lehigh Valley and improving the overall health of the community. The American Heart Association (AHA)/ American College of Cardiology (ACC) standard for door-to-balloon is 90 minutes, and with the LIFEPAK 15 monitors/defibrillators Cetronia’s highly skilled Paramedics and EMT’s are able to perform a 12-lead EKG and alert ER staff to active the cath lab while en route to the hospital which significantly improves patient outcomes and ultimately results in more lives saved. On April 28, 2011, Cetronia Ambulance Corps hosted its “Health on Wheels” benefit which was attended by over 170 businesses, community leaders and residents that support Cetronia’s pursuit of excellence in pre-hospital emergency medical services. The event, held at the America on Wheels Museum in Allentown, showcased some of the newest and most innovative technologies utilized by Cetronia associates every day. Proceeds of the event went directly towards the purchase of the LIFEPAK 15 monitors/ defibrillators. striving for excellence SERVING OUR COMMUNITY Cetronia Ambulance Corps strives to be a familiar and welcome participant in the lives of those we serve. We are able to achieve this through the many community outreach and education initiatives that Cetronia offers; whether it be providing stand-by EMS services for a community event, helping a Boy Scout pack earn their First Aid Merit Badge, visiting elementary schools, participating in community health fairs or training our fire and police departments in CPR. Our organization also participates in the Scouting for Food, Blizzard Boxes through Meals on Wheels and Toys for Tots campaigns. Additionally, Cetronia’s leadership lends its time and expertise by serving on many boards and committees which further improve the community where we live, work and play. • Cetronia Ambulance Corps participated in 220 special events, standby’s and educational programs in our communities during 2011 • Staff and services were donated for 120 events, totaling a charitable in-kind contribution of $40,617 In 2011, our Special Operations teams were activated on several occasions to provide disaster relief and emergency services to our surrounding communities. As an active member of the Pennsylvania Region II Strike Team, Cetronia Ambulance Corps dedicates two advanced life support ambulances complete with personnel to a state-wide emergency response team. To help with emergency preparedness for Hurricane Irene, the Strike Team was deployed to Atlantic County, New Jersey to assist with the evacuation of residents in flood prone areas, as well as move the elderly and those with medical conditions to safety. In the wake of Tropical Storm Lee, the Strike Team was deployed to the Wilkes-Barre area to evacuate residents and provide emergency personnel to aid in the cleanup efforts. Diring the October snow storm, Cetronia’s Operations Center served as a warming facility for residents without power. Residents were able to come in and enjoy a hot cup of coffee and warm meal. For those residents who weren’t able to drive, Cetronia crew members picked them up and brought them to the warming center. Many of our associates played integral roles in regional and local Emergency Operations Centers (EOC’s), working countless hours to ensure our communities continued to receive essential services during these severe weather events. “I can’t thank your staff enough for all of its support during the October power outages and storms. It is reassuring knowing that South Whitehall Township has Cetronia Ambulance Corps as our EMS provider and emergency management partner; always willing to step up to the plate.” – Jeff Kelly, Emergency Management Coordinator for South Whitehall Township striving for excellence REMAINING FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE As an independent 501(c)3, non-profit community based organization, our stakeholders are the communities we serve. Cetronia Ambulance Corps conducts all of its operations efficiently, effectively and responsibly, contributing to the financial stability and future growth of the organization. Because we receive financial and technical support from so many individuals and businesses, Cetronia Ambulance Corps is able to strive for excellence in emergency medical services, transportation and community health resources. We continue to reinvest wisely in our community so all residents will benefit from our regional life-saving mission. • In 2011, Cetronia Ambulance Corps received $180,378 from 2,923 generous donors. Following prudent financial practices, Cetronia Ambulance Corps is well positioned for future expansion and growth. striving for excellence BUILDING THE FUTURE JOINT OPERATIONS BUILDING NEW REGIONAL EMS & MEDICO-LEGAL FORENSICS CENTER COMING SOON TO BROADWAY & PARKWAY RD…. It is our belief that a collaborative approach to public health and safety is in the best interest of our community. As a result, Cetronia Ambulance Corps has developed a model that utilizes advanced technologies and systems to lead to revolutionary advances in pre-hospital emergency care while also building relationships with community health systems that believe there is value achieved through collaboration and teamwork. In October of 2011, the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a 99 year land-lease agreement between Cetronia Ambulance Corps and the County of Lehigh for property at the intersection of Broadway and Parkway Road in South Whitehall Township. This paves the way for the development of a 75,000 +/-sq ft regional emergency medical services, education and medico-legal forensics center, which will: provide enhanced security for Cetronia’s fleet along with the county’s emergency vehicles and equipment; enhance community public health training programs through public and private usage of our educational center; be capable of expanding Cetronia’s existing command center to assist regional emergency operations; and open new opportunities for medical training for all regional EMS, healthcare and public safety personnel. Cetronia Ambulance Corps also received a $1.75 million allocation from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania under its Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) and bi-partisan support from all four caucuses of the Commonwealth’s legislature combined with Governor Corbett’s office for this project.
