Greetings from the Northshore Harbor Center General Manager
Friends of the Harbor Center’s Cinco de Mayo gala sure to be a fantastic event
If you are looking for a place to go to have a great
time this Cinco de Mayo with your amigos, look no
further than the Northshore Harbor Center. This year,
the Friends of the Harbor Center are hosting -- Cinco
De Mayo -- their anniversary gala on Saturday, May
5, at our beautiful facility, in what many have
deemed “the Northshore’s largest Cinco party ever!”
Established in 2004, the Friends of the Harbor Center
is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization made up of
volunteers who work to raise funds for purchasing
needed equipment for the Center. This will be the
group’s sixth event in seven years, and I have never
seen them more excited. The reason? Well, according
to Irma Cry, Chair of the Board, the community has
really responded well to this year’s theme. In the
past, our galas have included a black and white
cirque with acrobats and mimes; a casino night
where guests played card games and danced until
midnight; and sunset in the palms with beautiful
mood lighting and large, tropical trees.
This year, upon entering the Harbor Center, everyone
who attends will be swept away to the streets of Old
Mexico by the sites, smells, music and of course,
delicious margaritas. The lobby will have the feel of
an outdoor, beautifully lit patio one might wander
upon in Cozumel. The Grand Hall will be filled with
an explosion of color, serapes, maracas, and
authentic paper flowers. Local artists have been
asked to design custom piñatas that will also adorn
the room, and guests will be able to vote for their
favorite one! In addition to the décor, the food will
be fantastic and will include a traditional Mexican
menu provided by Patton’s Catering. The evening
will begin with a variety of passed hors d’oeuvres.
A premium open bar will include all your favorites,
as well as margaritas, beer and wine. Buffets will
feature a soup station with chili chowder and red
chili seafood, a taco station that offers classic
chipotle shrimp and fish, a fajita bar with beef and
shrimp, a carne asada station with grilled sirloin,
black beans and rice. And what Mexican fare would
be complete without dessert? Both flan and sopapilla
cheesecake will be served.
Music will be provided by the Wise Guys, a group
made up of some of the finest local New Orleans
musicians including a legendary horn section. With
their variety and style, the dance floor is sure to stay
packed all night.
I would like to thank everyone on the Friends Board
for all of their hard work and dedication to this event
and our facility. Members are Irma Cry, Richie
Artigue, Pete Hanson, Dawn Sharpe Brackett, Ann
Barks, Mayor Freddy Drennan, Donna Faucheux,
Scott Dutton, Parish President Pat Brister, Secretary
of State Tom Schedler, and Slidell Police Chief
Randy Smith.
