If you think you would qualify for Student Assistance, please come to the office and collect an application. If you were eligible for Student Assistance for 2013, you do not need to fill out a new application. A letter from the Department of Education has been sent to all 2013 eligible families informing them of their 2014 approval or advising them that they are no longer eligible. If you have a child starting Kindergarten for 2014 and already have children receiving Student Assistance, please either fill out an application for that child or add their details to the letter from the Department and return to the school office. Approval is not automatic for siblings starting in Kindergarten. If you have any question please contact the office staff. SCHOOL ASSOCIATION END OF YEAR BBQ The School Association would like to thank everyone who last Thursday joined us at our End of Year BBQ in celebrating another successful year at Bellerive Primary School. The raffle was drawn and the prize winners were: 1st: Kelly Dixon 2nd: Mollineaux Family 3rd: Andrea Howcroft 4th: 5th: 6th: 7th: 8th: 9th: 10th: Liam Morton Oliver Byrne Sarah Dwyer Marnie Isaac Bridget Tape Pete Brown Kylie Eade BREAKFAST CLUB Yesterday’s final Breakfast Club for the year marked the end of five years of our fabulous Breakfast Club providing a healthy morning start-up to our students. We can promise that it will continue to operate from the second week of Term One in 2014. Our school takes this opportunity to thank with much appreciation and gratitude, the dedicated volunteers who have given generously of their time, making this service in our school, the success that it has been. Every student, staff member and parents and carers are always welcome to have breakfast or just drop by for a chat with our friendly retired folk who enjoy meeting up with our students, as much as our students and parents enjoy dropping by on any Monday morning between 7.50 and 9.00. People move on and this is happening with some of our volunteers of long-standing, who have other responsibilities they need to take care of. Therefore we are seeking expressions of interest from our school families or friends who might be interested in joining our roster next year. Anyone joining the roster will need to be very friendly, cheery, chatty and patient at this time of morning that isn’t everyone’s best time of day. This time needs to be available as per the roster and reliable so that we can guarantee that Breakfast Club will happen each Monday morning, rain, hail or shine. If someone knows that they have this amount of time available on Monday, maybe once a month, on an ongoing basis and in this simple way would like to make a positive, early morning difference in the lives of many, please apply by contacting me via email at any time – email - [email protected] Have a Peaceful and Safe Christmas, Kerry Lee (School Chaplain) 8 SLEEPS UNTIL CHRISTMAS UNVEILING CEREMONY The unveiling ceremony of the Bellerive Primary history signs was held last week with an excellent gathering in attendance. The signs were unveiled by the mayor of Clarence City Council—Alderman Doug Chipman, John Sargent from the Bellerive Historical Society and former students Barrie Armstrong and Sally Shorrock. The signs can be located at 52 King St and 13 Chapman St and I encourage all families to have a look and find out more information about our wonderful school. SCHOOL BANKING Congratulations to the McPherson family for winning the Runner Up prize (DVD pack) in the last competition. Also, the headphones are on order. If you are waiting for them you will receive them early next year. The Commonwealth Bank is waiting for the shipment to arrive. On Saturday the 7th of November 2013 my mum, my dad and I went in a GKP Karate national tournament. My dad came 2nd in his division. My mum got two golds out of ten people and I got one gold medal out of 40 people. I though it was an amazing opportunity and I would love to do it again. Harry Prior (Grade 3) PERFORMANCE ASSEMBLIES The ECE and Primary Performance Assemblies were held last week in the school hall. The support by parents for these assemblies was outstanding and the items put on by classes were entertaining and well presented. A big thank you to Mrs Cross who co-ordinated the assemblies so well and prepared the items to a high standard. What’s been happening in the Next Steps Program? Thank you from Ms Wendy Palfreyman It has been a wonderful opportunity to get to know and work with all the Aboriginal students and to help them improve their Literacy and Numeracy skills. I have also really enjoyed working with all classes across the school, teaching Aboriginal Cultural Perspectives within the Australian Curriculum. Thank you to all teaching staff concerned for your interest, flexibility, understanding and support! I would like to thank Mrs Liz Nelan for her fabulous work over the past 2 years. She has done outstanding displays, worked very well with individuals and small groups to improve Literacy and Numeracy Outcomes and assisted with Aboriginal Cultural Activities with many classes. She has been a great support to me personally as well. Well Done! Thank you so much! Ms Kristy Mason joined us at the beginning of Term 3 this year as our Aboriginal Education Worker. She has been a welcome addition to our team allowing us all to learn more about Tasmanian Aboriginal Cultural Traditions. She has worked really well with the students and has been keen to join in and have a go at anything. Thank you for your skill in making and extra help on class excursions. Well Done!
