The Lincoln Lion MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE CONTACT US Joe Cook Principal Rose Bowers Office Administrator Telephone: 905-683-4941 Fax: 905-683-0970 December 2015 Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated staff, hard-working students and supportive parents, Lincoln Avenue Public School has enjoyed many successes over the past month. December is upon us and with it comes the preparation for our Holiday Concert. We will having a dress rehearsal beginning at 9:00 a.m., which will include performances by our Kindergarten classes. Our evening concert will be held on Thursday, Dec. 10 beginning at 7:00p.m. Please note that our SCC will be having a Bake Sale and will be raffling off a Gingerbread House before the concert. As well, our Book Fair will be open before the concert from 5:45-6:45p.m. The Elementary Progress Report will be sent home on Friday, December 11th for students in Grades 1-8. Students are encouraged to reflect on their work from the first three months of school and set achievable goals as they move forward towards the First Term Report Card in February. As always, parents are encouraged to contact their child(ren)’s teacher(s) if you have any questions regarding the Progress Report or achievement this year. The last day before the Winter Break will be Friday, December 18, 2015. Dismissal will be at 2:00p.m., one hour earlier than our regular dismissal. On behalf of the entire Lincoln Avenue Team, I would like to wish all members of our school community a very happy holiday season. We look forward to seeing all of our students back at school on Monday, January 4, 2016. We will be collecting new, unwrapped toys/gifts until Thursday December 17! Our goal is to help as many families across the GTA as we can! Listed below are some ideas for gifts. The Scholastic Book Fair will be back at our school from Wednesday, December 9 until lunch (11:15 a.m.) on Friday, December 11. We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest in children's books of all reading levels. The Book Fair will be open before the Holiday Concert on Thursday, December 10th from 5:45-6:45p.m. Inclement Weather During inclement weather, the Durham District School Board attempts to keep schools open. It is the parents’ responsibility to decide if conditions are safe for their children to walk to and from school. Be sure to call ‘Safe Arrival’ if your child will not attending. In the case of extreme weather, please listen to one of the local radio/tv news stations listed below for notices of transportation cancellations and school closures: CP NEWS 24, KX96-FM 95.9, CFRB-AM 1010, 680-AM News, CBC/CBL 99.1, Q107-FM 107.1, CHFI-FM 98.1, CHUM –FM 104.5, Y92-FM 91.9, EZ ROCK 97.3, CICX 105.9. Our new weather zone areas are posted on the school and board websites. Junior Girls’ Volleyball Team Congratulations to the Jr. Girls volleyball team for an outstanding performance at the area playdowns this week. The girls played amazing games winning against all the other schools and ended up tied for first place!! They then went on to play Eagle Ridge in the crossover match and easily won the first game but lost the best 2 out of 3. The girls showed incredible school spirit and teamwork as they encouraged each other and stayed positive throughout the matches. Congratulations to team members Katie, Alexia, Alicia, Jessica, Jahnia, Sareena, Sabrina, Rumina and Brianna! Thanks to all the parent drivers for their support! Thank you to Coach Burrell for your time and commitment. VISITORS A friendly reminder that for safety and security reasons, we require that all visitors report to the office and wait for direction. Visitors must sign in at the office and wear a visitor tag while in the building. Parents and visitors are not allowed to wander through the hallways of the school or go directly to classrooms nor are they permitted to walk their child to class. Visitors must only enter through the front doors of the building.
