Dear Parents / Carers
STAFFING
Mrs Kazmi returned from maternity leave on Wednesday 19th January 2011 to teach in Celtic
Class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Dunmall will continue to teach on Monday
and Tuesday. Many thanks to Mr Jankowski, who has covered in Celtic Class since September
2010.
Mrs Jariwalla, Teaching Assistant in Reception, left at the end of the autumn term and Mrs
Schofield, one of the dining hall staff, left at the beginning of term, both of whom we would like
to thank for their support.
Congratulations to Max Wood (Norman Class) who won the bike in
the Star Chart End of Term Raffle.

As you can see no class in either the Foundation Stage (reception) or KS1 have an attendance
of over 95%. Although it is the time of colds and flu, good attendance is really important for
children’s progress.
Congratulations to Roman Class who had the best attendance record for the autumn
term, with seven pupils achieving 100% attendance and four pupils achieving at least
98%.
CHARITIES
Funds of £337.68 were raised from the funds raised leading up to the Christmas
period which have been donated to the McMillan Nurses charity.
Friends of Michael Sobell House would like me to pass on their thanks to everyone
who took part in the CHRISTMAS BELLS 2010 appeal. £95.30 was raised through
the sale of Christmas soft toys.
My thanks go to everybody who supported these two very worthy charities.
CHILDREN’S CENTRE
Currently we are planning services that will be delivered out of the Children’s Centre.
These will commence this term and you will receive details in the next newsletter. In the
meantime, we continue to make the final changes by adding the necessary furniture,
signage, etc
Curriculum booklets for each year group advising you of the themes
your child will be covering this term have been circulated. If, for any
reason, you did not receive a copy please contact your child’s
classteacher.
Homework will be issued to those year groups where the homework
schedule is different to that in the autumn term.
RECEPTION
Bronze Class have now moved into their new classroom. As a result of this, we have asked that
only parents/carers of reception children use this as an entry and exit point. The reason for this is
to ensure the safety of some of our youngest pupils and reduce congestion in this area.
Thank you for your support in using other entrances and exits.
FOOD POLICY
Following comments from parents and governors it has been agreed that items such as
chocolate and other items of high sugar content are discouraged from children’s lunch boxes.
This month we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Year 2 Reading Club,
supervised each week by Mrs Dowsett.
It was ten years ago that in an effort to raise reading skills Mrs Nunney and
Mrs Dowsett developed the idea of the after school extra reading sessions
for Year 2 and secured the support of Year 7 pupils from Swakeleys and
Abbotsfield.
Since then a second club has been set up for pupils in Year 1 and now both
clubs are supported by Charville children from Years 5 and 6
POSSIBLE NEW DEVELOPMENT
A well-attended meeting was held recently at the school, led by John McDonnell (MP), to
discuss the proposal by Highbridge No2 Limited to develop the Hayes Business Park grounds.
Although no firm proposals have been put forward, the company is currently canvassing local
opinion, attitudes and requirements. There will be further meetings to inform parents/carers
and residents of developments and these will be circulated to you in due course.
LOOK WHO’S TALKING COMPETITION 2011
‘Look Who’s Talking!’ is a borough-wide competition for children in Key Stages 1 and 2.
Before Christmas we asked the children in Years 1 to 6 to prepare a presentation entitled
‘My World’, where they could talk about something that is important in their world, and
learn a poem to recite to the class. Competitions were held in class and children were then
selected to represent Charville in the borough heats. The winners for each age group were:
Year 1/2 Brandon Scully
Year 3/4 Lama Zibara
Year 5/6 Moonsun Bharj
All children did extremely well in the heats and were all selected to participate in a ‘Public
Speaking’ workshop. Brandon and Moonsun will also represent Charville in the finals of
the Look Who’s Talking competition at the Civic Centre in February.
We all wish them both the very best of luck!
