VISION JAN-MAR 2014
INDUSTRIAL
VISIT
Message by company’s Vice President Kavita Nigam: “There are equal chances of success and failure in business.
Budding entrepreneurs shall have courage to take risks in life. Even when they start earning, they have to plough back a
lot of money in business to become successful.” Stating the example of denying a big project of Reliance, she said that
sometimes a conscious ‘NO’ is extremely important in business when you know that you will not be able to fulfill
customer requirements. She added that a rational approach must be followed in business.
On February 17, 2014, students of Entrepreneurship subject
taught by Professor Reena Agarwal went for an Industrial visit to
KARAM, located at the Amausi Industrial Area Lucknow. The
Factory was started in the year 1994. It is spread over 9 acres of
land area and has 2000 employees working for the growth of the
company. Company manufactures and sells personal safety
products such as harness, belts, shell mates, load arresters and
other safety products. During the visit to the company’s
manufacturing unit which manufactures products only for the
purpose of exports, the students had a discussion with Miss Hina,
Business Development Officer of KARAM. She said that the
company was started by two persons and all the products are
manufactured completely in-house; it is entirely vertically
integrated, and hence unique. All the components of the Fall
Protection range of KARAM products are produced within one
large campus, and yarn and steel are credited as being the only
main raw material for the same. The purpose is to have a
complete control over the finest details of manufacturing in order
to reach the highest levels of quality standards.
Division I deals with metal-operations which are extensive,
covering all aspects of manufacturing on CNC machines. The Unit
is equipped with its own in-house Tools and Dye Making
workshop, with the latest CNC machines. The division also has an
intensive center of Research and Design. Here, the work is
carried employing the latest technology in computer graphics and
technical designing.
Division II majorly produces textile products such as belts and
ropes for harness. The products finally get assembled in this
11
VISION JAN-MAR 2014
division and get dispatched from here. Raw material, that is,
yarns are imported from Taiwan.
Strict quality parameters are laid out for manufacturing and
systems’ operations, and followed to the core. The Company has
achieved the systems certification of ISO 9001-2008 from UKAS
(UK), and regular and stringent audits keep the pace at KARAM
ahead at all times.
Miss Hina told the students that entrepreneurship is cashing an
opportunity and the students shall be able to identify their
opportunity. She said that even if students have bizarre ideas but
are passionate about it they should pursue it. Giving an example
of her own company, she said that when owners of company
started business there was no market of personal protective
equipments and being the first one to create the market, today
they are leaders. The success of their business is achieved
majorly because of team work and positive attitude of people
working in the company.
Major challenges in their business include adhering to the law
and norms of various countries while making products, inventory
management and lead time. Prices are set by the competition.
There is always a constant war between operations and
marketing department of the company.
Major success factors include the transparency in the system,
proper communication (open monthly meetings and annual
meetings), regular auditing of all functions, daily reporting,
leverage to team leader.

Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow.
From past few months students were busy with exams,
conferences and extra classes so to rejuvenate that dripping
spirit this match was organized. GAP after winning the toss
elected to bat first and scored 99 runs in 10 overs. Deepak
Dubey of GAP went for a half century and became the star of
the day. JIM Connect chasing a target of 100 runs lost some
early wickets but returned into match after 5th over and that
was the time when the zeal of the whole ground was at peak.
But at last JIM connect lost to GAP.
The foremost feature of the match was the PARTICIPATION OF
GIRLS. Despite so many myths about females in society, girls
of JIML again proved their mettle with full dedication and
insurmountable strength.
The day also heard few hilarious comments from the lead
commentator Mr. Shobhit Tandon which added more spice to
the match and left the crowd laughing till their funny bone got
hurt. It also brought with it the competing edge required in real
world, demonstration of skills, team work and discipline. The
match again taught us that girls are no longer a damsel in
distress and can bear pressure and ooze excellence
simultaneously.
Last but not the least, the audience was amazing who fully
empathized with each stroke and gave their full support. They
were not interested in the score but the game.
“I think sportsmanship is knowing that it is a game, that we
are only as a good as our opponents, and whether you win or
lose, to always give 100 percent.” – Sue Wicks

VISION JAN-MAR 2014
PAPER BAG
CAMPAIGN
Social Responsibility Committee organized “Paper Bag
Campaign” on January 2, 2014 in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. At
the campaign, students of Jaipuria Institute of Management,
Lucknow distributed self-made paper bags to public and
created awareness among the people about the benefits of
the use of paper bags and harmful effects caused by use of
polythene bags. Social responsibility committee members
believe that when we are not well, we know that we have
parents to take care of us. Our parents call us every single day
and ask about our well-being. Our siblings, friends and wellwishers also take care of us.
But, what about our environment?
We know that we exist because of it. But are we going to live a
healthy life?
Are we thinking of our future generations or are we thinking
about ourselves?
17
VISION JAN-MAR 2014
We spend thousands of rupees for our development but are we
making wise use of that?
Give these small questions a thought.
We are enough mature to read a lot about our environment
and the harm being caused to it by polythene but there are
people who are not even aware of it. We cannot eradicate use
of polythene bags in one go but yes, we can motivate people of
our society to use paper bags.
We may give thousands of reasons for ignoring this cause but
we need some to stand for it.
NUKKAD NATAK: DASTAK
The Social Responsibility Committee of Jaipuria Institute of
Management, Lucknow celebrated the International
Women’s Day in a unique manner. The students conducted a
“Nukkad Natak- DASTAK” where they sensitized thousands
of people about the various social issues related to women.
The event was organized on March 8, 2014 at 5 p.m. outside
the multilevel parking, Hazratgunj, Lucknow.
International Women’s Day is celebrated throughout the
world on March 8. This day is celebrated to show a gesture of
affection, respect towards women and appreciate their
social, economic and political achievements. There is a
dichotomy; on one side India has launched several schemes
and programs to facilitate women empowerment and on the
other we hold testimony to the increasing number of cases of
crime against women such as female foeticides, domestic
violence, dowry deaths, eve-teasing and sexual harassment.
The number of reported cases has increased drastically in
the recent past. Indian youth has protested against this in all
possible ways and at various platforms.
On this occasion, students from Jaipuria Institute of
Management created awareness and motivated everyone to
raise their voice against such social issues as eve-teasing,
sexual harassment, molestation, child abuse and rape. The
Lucknowites in general and the spectators in special, praised
the initiative taken and the message spread “women- the
creator of human beings, the most precious creation of GOD
should be treasured ,appreciated, respected and cared for ”
by the budding managers of the Institute.

VISION JAN-MAR 2014
‘NAARI’
We may believe in any path for humanity to be free of hunger, want and disease,
from war and violence, and from ignorance and hedonism, but no path can be
traversed without woman walking hand in hand, as equal of man.
“International Women’s Day or World Conference on Women is
always a day for stock-taking and introspection, a landmark in the
fight for equality. Yet, international days come and go and so do
conferences. While the women celebrate the coming out of
purdahs of various sorts and being unshackled in various ways,
violence or any callous threat is still a common thread that knits
all specimens of female variety together across the world.
As a small step against these atrocities, to magnify women
empowerment and to throttle up the soul of society, Jaipuria
Institute of Management, Lucknow did a street play on March 8,
2014 i.e. International Women’s Day at Hazratganj, Lucknow. The
theme of this play was ‘NAARI’.
Under the creative direction of Atindra Kumar Shukla, the team
cleverly portrayed the heinous and disgraceful act against 49% of
vote bank (in India) and left all jabbed with a sense of shame for
just standing and watching this inhuman recklessness in the
society. The audiences present were thrilled to core and were
sensitized; when confronted by their true self; by the acting and
emotions of students.
Mr. Ajay Wadhwa, Head Coordinator of Social Responsibility Club,
also contributed a lot in converting this effort into a success.
We may believe in any path for humanity to be free of hunger,
want and disease, from war and violence, and from ignorance
and hedonism, but no path can be traversed without woman
walking hand in hand, as equal of man.
